Fantastic tutorial for Shopify! Thank you. I do have a store and didn't realize that you could optimize a store to the level as taught. Very easy to understand tutorial.
I had followed along to your video. I am still having 404 issues. Do i need the original store url to do a 301 redirect. Help. Sleepless In Massachusetts.
Hey Steven, great question! So this tutorial only helps with 301 redirects INSIDE of your site, pointing to new URLs within the same domain name. If you're looking to do a redirect from a different store URL, you'll likely need to do that on a DNS level. (especially if the original store isn't accessible anymore).
Hi there, I have a question, Is this possible to try to redirect from "/collections/all" (but this one is a default Shopify page and doesn't allow to delete, modified or redirect it) to "/collections/shop-all" if is the same store?
I don’t think that would work unfortunately bc in order for 301 redirects to work with Shopify, the old URL/page needs to not be accessible at all (basically deleted).
@@MariahMagazine Sorry, I’m tried to redirect from “/collectons/all” -> “/collectons/shop-all” (bc both pages are not crawlable) but I see it’s totally impossible to redirect, I tried to redirect with liquid or js code inside the files to edit but its’ impossible to force a path prefix to trying to redirect another page too... So Thanks anyways!
I know the redirect FROM URL has to be on the same domain. I forget if you can 301 redirect on Shopify to another domain or not. You can give it a shot! If not, it would have to be a DNS thing I believe.
So after I created this video I learned that in order to get shopify 301 redirects to work, the old page has to be deleted or not a thing on the website anymore. It won’t work if the old page URL is still on the website. It’s a whack practice in my opinion but I was running into the same thing with a client and couldn’t find a work around without removing the old page/url completely. THEN the 301 redirect will work (from my experience). Hopefully that helps!
There’s a few things that could be happening if it’s not working as intended. Hard to tell without seeing it all, but yes, Shopify is good at asking (via checkbox) if you want to do a 301 redirect when you update/change the URL from the get go. Glad you got it to work!
Great tutorial! As a Shopify store that has product colours sell out and never become available again, I need to redirect all of the sold out ones! Super helpful, thank you!
Super helpful, thanks Mariah! How do you discern between a 301 vs a 302 redirect in Shopify backend when setting up? Not sure if I missed it in the video, sorry!
