Great tutorial, iconic hairstyle :D If Unreal wants to import your Alembic (.abc) file as static/skeletal mesh, make sure to select proper extension (Alembic hair strands instead of all files).

I import to Unrel 5.3 from Blender 4.1 and it just can do an static mesh... All export settings are good - what can i do?

Couldn't get this working for blender 3.5 > UE 5.1 - the alembic importer in UE just thinks its a normal mesh alembic, so the groom importer doesn't show up

You need to activate groom plugins, alembic groom importer. Under Edit -> Plugins

gorka, this seems to only work for a manniquin or metahuman, because after doing everything just like you, I also tried it in several ways and when it came to creating the groombinding it gave me an error, with roots very far from the skeleton and as if the skeleton has no UVs therefore my skeleton does have UVs and I did the hair exactly the same as in your video, could you tell me how to solve this error?

I saw fur and the others prefabs in maya xgen or arnold ai shaders... but I've lost the place, maybe you can point where I can find those prefabs to make my fur ect.?

Can you do update on this ? The new hair system in blender 3.5 doesn’t seem to have emitter. How would you export to ue5.1 I can’t seem to get it to work using alembic it won’t load.

I managed to get this working by putting hair on the top of a icosphere and the exported Alembic file was 600kB. But when I tried adding hair to my own 40k triangle mesh the exported Alembic file was only 600 bytes. The small file imported in Unreal but nothing showed up. If I import it back into Blender nothing shows. Is there a bug in Blender where this export doesn't work for large meshes?

Gracias! Si con un peluche se tendría que ver todo guapo. Te refieres para hacer animaciones etc? Pues no he tocado Cascadeur, pero por lo que he oido tiene muy buena pinta. Yo solo he hecho animaciones en Blendrer y en 3Ds Max, los dos son my buenos. Asique te recomendaría usar Blender, y te recomendaría tambien Cascadeur con solo lo que he escuchado jaja, así que si quieres pruébalo, pero yo la verdad que no hago tantas animaciones etc, entonces no se que decirte.

So it is working in Editor but when I package the game, the hair starts to behave strangely. It seems the physics no longer work, and the binding asset does not keep the hair attached to the head. Did someone has similar problem?

The x-ray button next to wireframe to select through the mesh. Shortcut: Alt + Z.

I did not succeed on my side, the assignment of the vertex group did not work as in the tutorial with the same parameters but I still continued but the import in alembic did not work with Ue5 ( failed to import )

heyy there, really great tut, tanks therefore. I was hoping you guys and maybe you @GorkaGames too, could help me. When applyling physics too my Hair, my model beneath it and the structure of my Hair collapses. Did someone know why? Thanks guys

You can but you have to create multiple groom hairs, like one for short hairs where you don't want physics and another one for longer hairs where you apply the physics, and just put two grooms object on you character on UE

First of all thank you for your videos, its best tutorials on RU-vid indeed! I follow step by step and finally it working on Blender 3.6 and UE 5.3.2. But I meet problem - simulation physic do not work correctly while hairs long enough and get lower than models shoulder, hairs pushed up. Everything correct with disabled simulation. Have anybody the same? Is it UE bag or I do somethig wrong?

Solved it, its bad physic asset for custom mesh. This default mannies works perfect

I notice when I add the binding asset in the blueprint, the hair disappears. Any idea what could be happening?

What could happen is 1) The position of the hair model changed, so set it to 0, 0, 0 2) The binding asset was not properly created, so try to create a new one

@@MaikM7 I have it attaching now, dont recall what i changed, but it wont track during animation or with streaming of mocap data in. It just stands in its original pose

I need a better explanation on why I wouldn't want to use a socket for the hair. I'm planning on building a character creation menu to allow potential players of UE 5 creations to customize their character. When building selectable hair assets I was planning on making them attach to a socket in order for the hair to be displayed in game in a realistic manner. Why exactly is using a socket for hair a bad idea?

Make sure that you correctly applied the exact export settings as I did. First of all exporting as alembic (not FBX, which can be a comun mistake 🤣), and then setting the size correctly, the selected and visible objects only etc. Let me know if you have any other problems

It does not work for me. Instead of Groom import options, I have Alembic Cache options when I import the file in. I installed the plugins and enabled the skin cache. I am however using a custom character, not the mannaquin from UE5. However I feel like that should not be a problem. Would you have an idea for a solution? edit: I think I found the problem, I did not use the hair particle system, as I made a model hair. I think that is why it did not import as groom. I guess you have the use the blender hair

10:30 for some dumbass reason I'm after doing everything this tutorial says and yet the import abc file would just be giving me "Failed to import . Failed to create asset. Please see Output Log for details."

An issue I have is the hair does not have collision with my character and goes thru the body. I`ve had this issue for a few months now and cant figure out why that is, if anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated!

Your character is either missing a physics asset or your physics asset is set up incorrectly.

​@rosendovalentin8533 I've followed another tut for more realistic hair now, but you have to make sure the plugins are enabled as mentioned above. Specifically groom and alembic importer.

You can create up to hair, but even if you export, only hair will not be exported. Importing in UE only imports the skeletal mesh.
