Intro video included as part of the tutorials or release them on their own? Let me know what you all think!
@GertjanVanderKelen

First of all, LOVED the intro. I think it works as a prelude to the tutorial, but would definitely consider uploading it separately. I love sharing clips like these with models I know to set the mood and to get inspired.

i think the short film should be shorter if its at the begging tbh, but it looks cool!

Nathan, I really loved your little stylish intro vid and I think it's terrific that you are experimenting and having fun with it. It really shows how a predominantly stills photographer can make use of a bit of video footage though. I found it inspiring. I think it would actually work to your benefit to post these separately from the BTS breakdown / tutorial though. It gives you the opportunity for more stream promotion -- the more uploads you post, the more attention you get -- and in the event that somebody finds the intro a bit too long for their taste it avoids them clicking away.

Nathan, I guess the introduccion video helps to have a glimpse on the work you are going to teach us. It would be great idea to have them in your next tutorials. As I used to say, thanks a lot for your videos, they are a great inspiration. I keep watching them from Ushuaia, Argentina.

I was wondering on why opening 2.8 first because then you need HSS. But it cames clear after. I really appreciate the not-over-retouching. I humbly try to do the same meaning a skin is a skin not a plastic bag that pop's. I think i will check for a larger Umbrella. The problem is to carry with me on shooting location... Keep it up with your great video, thanks to enlight the newbies we are

Hello Nathan from Saigon VN, I've never missed any your videos so far as they are valued for myself. I love your lighting uses and have good learning. Especially, I like your studio much. If it possible I 'd have a question: How to minimize effected of covid-19 to your photography i.e. services, earning or new ideas? Thank you very much.
@NathanElson
@NathanElson 2 года назад
Hey Thanh! Minimizing the effects on business when it comes to Covid really just lies in your areas restriction policies. There were times here when I couldn't work for a few months, and times now when I am free to work as I please. The main thing for me is having a solid client base that I've built over the years that continues to hire me for work as new projects come up. I try to make every client a forever / repeat client so that I don't have to constantly hunt down new clients, and can instead facilitate my client base.

Intro video was nice!! As for the rest, I only have 2 "issues". First, if you are using a cigarette as a element of composition, it should be lighten; honestly I don't see a point in using a cigarette that is not lightened. I know you probably can't/shouldn't light one inside your studio, but even so... Second, even if this is not a specific tutorial on retouching, since you are showing it, for the sake of good practices, perform it in a way that won't induce bad habits on your subscribers; like doing your clean up in the BG layer (just duplicate it....its that simple). You have my like and subscription! Cheers!

Nice little trick how you used color thingies to pop highlights. I would've added the silver-rich noise after healing. All in all, awesome!

Hi Nathan, loved the intro and love all your content. Its great that you show a bit of the shoot and then the retouch but personally I would (out of interest) like to know why you are doing the shoot (is it just for our learning etc) but also how the concept came about. Also discuss why you are using the settings you are using. Keep up the stunning work.

@@allisonbaum4736 unlike Nathan I don't have to be diplomatic. Just viewed your channel and realised you're a master with Photoshop. You have used the clone brush to clone totally empty site. Don't be a Troll because you are jealous and have no talent yourself.

@@StakyAll There are people who teach. And there are others who do, and not blabber mouth. The real pros don't go around teaching in the school of hard knocks. When you teach, at least do a good job. Nice video Nathan. Do you think it would have made a difference to retouch then turn it into a black and white and add the grain?
@NathanElson
@NathanElson 2 года назад
You totally could, but I have the brain that once I decide on an aesthetic, I stick with it :) Maybe not always the best approach, but it's worked for me thus far.

@@NathanElson I do also. I only ask because sometimes the retouching could look funny with the grain added. Thanks for the video. More lighting techniques to add to my arsenal.

Question Why convert to black and white instead of shooting black and white in camera? Just curious
@NathanElson
@NathanElson 11 месяцев назад
When you shoot RAW it doesn't shoot it in B+W, also, there are a lot of variables in B+W, such as skin tones, clothing, background, etc which can all be adjusted via the color sliders in the B+W panel in C1, which makes dialing in the right look much easier.

My Pics looks like 💩 maybe because I use a Speedlight (Gn 60) with a 60x60 cm softbox. I tried different angles and nothing beautiful ad this shots happened. I am so frustating. I Watch this video a lot of times and I cant be able to shoot a good portrait 😰
