Hello, Vincent; I love your work. My question is regarding bodyweight exercises. I have access to nautilus machines and I do feel the cams do make a huge difference. However, I’d like to incorporate bodyweight training on certain weeks when I’m away from home. Is there a way to modify bodyweight exercises to mimic the cam effect on the resistance curve?

Regarding hamstrings, I have only seen in the scientific literature that hamstrings don't grow in response to either squat of leg presses, and this is when quad hypertrophy is measured. I have seen other studies show that biceps and triceps grow very well with standard exercises, so this isn't an issue with my reading of the research. Is it the case that when taken to failure, the hamstrings are worked more? From my experience, I experience no acute fatigue in my hamstrings from leg press of squats. I do feel it in my glutes, quads and lower back however. So what gives?

I disagree with Jay about Matrix and Life Fitness equipment. Commercial Selectorized machines in general need alot of maintenance, inspection, and upkeep. It all depends if the gym owners give a damn about things like that. Perhaps Jay can demonstrate what to look for in faulty equipment in a video.

Pull: deadlift, BB rows, bicep curls ( or preacher curls) Legs: squats, calf raises, shrugs. done! all 1 set to failure between 60 to 90 seconds per set (8 to 12 reps) abs i throw in once a week.

been doing HIT for over 20 years, both full body and upper/lower work. For me upper/lower works better, more focus and intensity, less overall all systematic demand (ie; better recovery). The biggest thing for me is frequency, full body once every 4,5, or 6 days, upper/lower, I train every other day. I'm not one that hates training, which seems to be most that take up HIT.

using less resistance, focusing on the quality of the rep, smooth turn around, constant tension doesn't require the excessive recovery you are seeing. The impetus for growth is the intensity of effort, NOT the amount of resistance.

Opinion on gymnastics rings dips ?
@JayVincentFitness
@JayVincentFitness Год назад
They’re fine. Just a little bit of a balance challenge to them which might take away from what you’re trying to do with the exercise; stimulate the chest and triceps by deeply fatiguing them
@exercisethoughtsanddiscussions
As a former gymnast, if you’re strength training, stick with bars. The constant attempt to keep the rings still (hence ‘Still Rings’), does NOT help with gaining strength or size. Controlling the ‘wobble’ on rings diffuses effort AWAY from the target muscles. Practicing and demonstrating ring strength is fun. I loved doing it, but it’s not going build strength in the long run. I’m not discouraging doing it, it’s just not ‘better’ than stable apparatus.
