This was extremely helpful - Thank you. In less than 10 mins of watching this I had solved a problem. I've used for Alexa to announce on all echoes when a moisture detector is wet, warning me that an aquarium filter is leaking again. The device was previously seen in Alex, but no routine could be triggered from it. I now have a smartthings routine that turns on the switch when the sensor gets wet for more than 10 secs (avoiding accidental splashes) and all echoes around the house announce. I'm going to use this many times over on other tanks/sensors that previously would not work in Alexa.
Thanks! What I've been looking for! I want to make physical button trigger my goodnight rutine in Google Home. Using a switch it works but it's not ideal since it can also be triggered from within Google Home. Can't see it's possible to use a door sensor in google home - Alexa support that but I've discontinued use of Alexa as I got tired of it not removing dead devices automatically and it became really cluttered - as well as it's not supported in my native language.
Good video. Thanks for pulling together. I have had this driver for a few weeks but wracking my brains as to how to use the switches. The reverse Google home option is a great idea! Just out of interest, how do you get it to announce local lightning strikes? I use a couple of apps for this on my phone but would be good if we're outdoors... Thanks again
Glad you like the video and you found it helpful! (As a caveat, this functionality broke about a month ago and I haven't been able to look into where the issue is). I have a Tempest weather station in my backyard (which was supposed to have SmartThings integration over 3 YEARS ago and still doesn't and probably never will, so I'd strongly recommend staying away from it) that detects lightning strikes. The weather station is tied into IFTTT which then can use the lightning strike as an IFTTT trigger. Then within IFTTT you could either trigger a virtual switch to be turned on which could then drive the audible notification or a larger automation rule. You could also use IFTTT to send a webhook call to an automation engine like sharptools that would then be used as a trigger for a more advanced automation.
I use(d) a Virtual Thermostat for my Fireplace. My Qubino relay turns on and off the fireplace. My Samsung Smart button acts as a switch, but also as the temperature gauge. The Virtual Thermostat simplifies setting the temperature to shut on or off the fireplace. HOWEVER, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to configure the vEdge 2.94 Virtual Thermostat to use my Temperature reading from the button, and control my Qubino. Worked great when DTH was active.
Great video, thank you. After you create an initial vswitch, how do I add an additional vswitch? I click the scan nearby and nothing shows up like it did the first time. I only created one switch the first time, but need to add a couple more.
I'm glad you've found the video helpful! To create virtual devices you go into the vEdge creator device and go through the creation process (shown starting at 1:57 in the video). You can repeat this process as many times as you need to get the number of virtual devices created (just keep in mind they count towards the 200 device limit). You should not need to scan for devices after the vEdge creator device is added to your hub, you would only need to if you delete the vEdge creator and want to add it back.
Fantastic video exactly what I needed. 1 question. In amazon why do I only have options for open and close for the switch vs on and off and how do you make it properly with ST since in ST it's on and off😊
How about creating a video on building your own Edge device using a ESP8266 or ESP32. It could be a switch, temp sensor or anything for that matter. Have not found one that works.
Is it still working?? Bc I try to do it a lot of times and it doesnt work for me 😢😢😢 I wanna cry.. am I doing something bad?? When I scan nearby nothing happens
Clicking on the channel invitation prompts me to log in, but when I do so, I get "Couldn't load webpage | The webpage didn’t respond to the request in time." which is the same error I get when I try to go to the IDE page. Did something change since this guide was published? TIA!
I just tried the link and it brings me to the unenroll page so looks like its working. Can you try again if you haven't since posting the comment? It's possible smartthings was just having issues when you tried before.
Thanks for circling back@@BeardedTechGuy (which I should have done, too!). I paused my ad-blocker for the site and it worked, so apparently, that's a thing! :)
Most likely the account yo are logged into for your hub is different from the one you logged into when you opened the link. Can you verify if the account you are logged into in your smartthings app is the same?
I would CTRL+F5 on the webpage to refresh it. If that dosen't work, take a screenshot of what you're seeing and upload it to imgur and send the link so I can help further
