some systems do come with Image Backup on hard drive Like mine did. How ever I had to make new one after windows updates installed its saves me lot of time re downloading all updates again when ever I need restore windows again

thanks a lot this video was really helpful .. i want to ask if i'm gonna lose a data in another partition of the same hard drive when i restore the system .. lets say i have two partitions (G:windows ) and (E:movies) will i lose the movies when i restore the windows ?

Hello, thanks for the great videos! Excuse me, is it possible to recover a windows 8.1 system image backup to a windows 10 system? Or is everything incompatible? I ask because my laptop broke down, took it to the repair shop, they said the fan and HDD need to be replaced. They said they will setup the HDD with windows 10 (their recommendation) so it will be like a brand new system. A few months ago I made an image system backup (thanks to this video 😃) And I want my laptop to be exactly as it was, well as much as possible at least! For example, I had a bunch of browser copies (different users) on my desktop and in them all the passwords used etc... I don't remember any of my passwords for example (since they were all saved) in the browser 😔 Or should I just ask them to install windows 8.1 instead so they can recover the System Image? But the install dvd really needs its front end tweaking so the image restore is on the first page that users see, microsoft is still playing silly buggers by hiding usefull options. i dont know, silly sods lol. have a nice week end mate :-)

when i backup and then restore does it format my whole PC or just OS. will make "windows.old" folder as of OS installation as my data on downloads will be there .

I believe its actually possible to restore a cloned image made through this method on other computers with identical hardware build so it retains all the programs that were on the source computer at the time the master image was made.

Hi Brian, I am trying to get a new hard drive for my laptop (a SSD ) Can I use this image restore to clone my old hard drive to the new hard drive. And if so, dopes the new hard drive has to be the same size? My current hard drive is 500GB with only 46GB used. the 46GB are all programs, I do not store data (permanently) on my hard drive, I have another external usb hard drive for storage. So my question is; can I do this "file history" restore and then do a restore on a new hard drive (SSD) that is only 120GB? This method is almost identical to what I use to back up my system. I use Windows Powershell. the way to restore is the same you use. I tried my disk image that I have (done with powershell) and it did not go thru. may be because of the size difference. you think it would go thru doing the image with "file history"? I had cloned Hard Drives of identical size with Powershell with no problems. But I do not want or need 500GB SSD hard drive, I want to fit my 46GB onto a 120GB. And I do not want to use those cloning software programs, I do not trust them, but at the end I might have to if I have no other option. But I will not a 500GB hard drive. Please let me if your method would do me any good.

I followed your directions and selected an external HD with 1.34TB. The bk started then stoppped and window popped up with message Not enough space. How can a 1.34 tb HD have enough space? How do I get past this problem?

if you wanna do it some other way consider the software called macrium reflect its way better for scheduling backup and compressing them. it even works if you messed up your system and it wont boot.

Hey, I get a failed message: "A data disk is currently set as active in BIOS. Set some other disk as active or use the DiskPart utility to clean the data disk, and then retry the restore operation" Any ideas? Spent hours trying to figure this out...
