Very helpful with both programs, Rico! I've used GIMP for years but barely scratched the surface with its abilities. Have a happy Taco and Tequila Tuesday tomorrow!
What did you do to the milky way composites? When editing those images, do you prefer darktable or GIMP? Which renders you the best result while editing astrophotography photos?
@@RicoResolves I use darktable first whether single shot or stacking to get rid of hot pixels and chromatic aberration, then export as tiff. Then I've been importing to Affinity for noise reduction(that seems to be the best for night sky. Even tried Topaz Ai) If I want to use a mask, I've found PhotoscapeX is the easiest, but have done it in darktable. I've been cutting out sky and foreground with Affinity or photoscape, and opening both as layers in Gimp. I've only done it a couple times, but seems to look realistic. I know there's probably a better workflow, but still experimenting with stuff.
@@RicoResolves thanks for the response! Question..how can I make DT stop applying edits when I import my pictures? When I import then double click on a image to edit, it already has a color zone edit, lens correction, white balance, and other things that I've done to the previous image. Can you make a video or answer this please? And your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you for awesome content!!
Mmm that doesn't sound familiar. Have you opened up multiple photos at the same time, edited one, closed darktable and opened another one? Do you still have that problem then?
@@RicoResolves I think I may have done that. When I open DT there's always 3 images that remain there all the time for some reason. I've even looked at my import settings and couldn't find how to stop it
