Thank you. I can now work on a plan as I intend to swap out a few squares as doing for my teenage grandson. Looking forward to learning your jayg as your tutorials are so easy to learn from even though i am left handed❤️🥰🌹
This is fantastic ! .. as a new crocheter i am ecstatic about your pattern .. i can write it down as you are saying it .. its so much easier than music playing and a few words on a screen ... i will check out more of your patterns to keep ... 🎉❤
I learned crochet from your channel and 1 other channel.I just can't wait to make the whole blanket.I have just finished my granny square and it looks gorgeous. Thanks sooo much.I LOVED this video. Thanks again.💕😍
So happy you are learning to crochet and enjoying it! I learned to crochet when I was 11 years old too...and now I'm 70!😘 Hoping you have lots of fun with your crocheting and make lots of pretty things!👍
Very cool that you learned at 11😊. I learned while I was in junior high school/middle school by watching my older sister 🤓. I remember my first project was an all white blanket (big enough to cover myself) with a black edging. Wonder what ever happened to it 🤔. I'm now 58.
Hi Vickie, The yarn I used for my flower square: Hayfield Bonus Chunky in the shades Electric Pink, Azure, Lemon Grass, Cornfield, Clementine and Ladybird with a 6mm Crochet Hook. I bought it from here: bit.ly/3U8flPa 😃
Can you show us the seamless granny without changing colors? The standing double crochet doesn't seam to work coming from the slip stitch do we use a stacked single crochet as our first double instead?
Hi Mandi, The yarn I used for my flower square: Hayfield Bonus Chunky in the shades Electric Pink, Azure, Lemon Grass, Cornfield, Clementine and Ladybird with a 6mm Crochet Hook.😀🧶
Well, isn't that hilarious. I've been using the Standing Double Crochet Stitch for years without knowing it was an actual stitch 😁 (& by years I mean decades 😂)
Same here. It was how I learned 20+ years ago. My aunt who taught me has been doing it for 75 years. I showed her this and she didn't know what to make of it. Her grandmother taught her this way as well.
I've made A LOT of no turn Granny Squares because that's how my gram taught me, when I was 18. Fast forward 50+ years, I always added stitches between the sets of 3. I also used 3 chains on the corners. Love how these look tight & neat so you have taught this old dog some new tricks. I also bury my thread as I go so it's not overwhelming to do them all later.
Robin I just finished your petal squares in rainbow colors I love the way it look! Thank you so much for giving me the the confidence to try something new! ❤❤❤❤
I always get so excited after I watch one of your videos. Then I grab my yarn and off I go!!! But for some reason, my crocheting just doesn't go as smoothly as yours does. I have no idea why. You always make it look so simple. I can crochet, but I think I have 8 thumbs and 2 fingers, so it just takes me longer. Hahaha. Thank you again, Robin. I just love your tutorials and, as usual, your gorgeous yarn.
I know I’ve seen the free standing dc before but what baffles me is that I don’t use it, and I’ve been crocheting for a while now 🤨 I will say, though, that I’m loving the way you have taught us to do it and especially how beautiful and perfect the granny square looks. So thanks for this tutorial 🥰 There is always something to be learned 😊
What makes hers so perfect, is the standing stich. She dose a little hack where she yarns over to join, as a pose to under. Also note that she joins in the middle of a cluster as a pose to in a chain. Joining in a chain can add a tiny bit of yarn an make it lean. She also doesnt add a chain inbetween clusters. When you add the chain between it also makes the total square looser and lean. All the little hacks that she dose straightens things right up. I bet it took her a very long time an many many many granny squares to prefect it. I applaud her for sharing.
I have never ever turned my grannies. I’ve never had a problem with them, looking wonky, either. I keep it simple and just go round and round. Also, I never use a magic ring. I chain for and then make a circle. I crochet over the tail and that way it pulls the center up snug.
Thanks so much, really learnt alot from you. Meanwhile, how many ply is your yarn? And can i use a 5ply milk cotton yarn to make Granny squares for a crochet shirt ?. Thanks so much 😊.
I think I accidentally made a DC for a couple of the stitches in the Tight JAYG tutorial (😂🙈 too busy talking about what I was doing and not concentrating!) BUT it should be half doubles just like in this tutorial for the final edge if you're doing the CAL 🥰
This is a lovely and helpful video. I am just learning to crochet. But what do you mean about this being a “no turn” granny square? Because you are turning as you go? Thanks!
There is a technique which involves flipping your square (turning) each row which keeps everything lovely and even - the only downside to that is that one round will be the front of your stitches and the next will show the back side of your stitches. A lot of people don't like the look of that and prefer to have one set front side and one set back 🙂 Turning (the flipping back and forth) works brilliantly if you want a very large granny square type blanket - I really should do a tutorial for that at some point 😅
Hi Robin, I’ve brought all the yarn listed on the website site for the CAL, do you have a list of the colours you used for the other rainbow squares in your blanket too? I’m making mine the same as yours xx
A a complete novice, you are by far the easiest to understand crochet instructor. Ty! I absolutely love the granny square! My toddler grandson responded that he would like me to crochet a blanket with all the colors---rainbow colors. Bright colors happen to be my favorite too!❤❤❤❤
How long are your tails for weaving in please. They seem short yet you can weave a long way. Slowed it down on green round and much less weaving than blue round
granted I am not an expert on granny squares - don't like how they look so I don't usually make them - but I have never heard of turning a granny square. which made this video a source of mystery for me until I googled about it. I had no idea people turn their squares. to me it seems working without turning is just the standard, and probably most popular, way of making granny squares.
Hi Robin, can I make this into a baby blanket by just continuing the rounds but changing colors? I do so hate joining and I need to do 10 baby blankets before having my second cornea transplant. Blessings, Cathy
Same - I'm making a granny sq blanket and it's visibly twisting. Someone told me it's because I haven't been turned the work. I had never seen that you had to
I'm a beginner and this is likely a stupid question... It's there a reason on why you don't start (after creating the magic circle) with a standing dbl crochet and 2 chains instead of 5 chains? It would seem to me that it would match the other dbl crochets. Thanks!
Not stupid at all. I think it's because the yarn is attached to the ring itself. It seems like the standing method only works when attaching a new piece of yarn. A stacked single would work, but some people don't like them.
I can’t wort out how it’s done with a single coloured blanket. Do I have to cut and rejoin on each round is this a seamless granny if so hope u will show plz🌸💖🌸
I'm not used to a granny square pattern without having to change between the clusters of three, I'm used to having a chain one in between the clusters of three so that way when you do your next round you have a space to work your clusters of three as you build up and out. My question is what does pattern still work if I wanted to do a chain space in between those clusters not the corners I'm talking about the sidewalls
I don't understand the title. I must have missed something! I have never turned a granny square - mine all have a 'front' side and a 'back' side.' I do like that standing stitch to start the new row!
Thanks, Robin! I'm very much a newbie who hasn't even tried double crochet yet. But this video just came up as a RU-vid recommendation and I'm looking forward to trying it, soonish. Have also just subscribed to your channel
Your videos have helped me learn to crotchet so many stitches and become confident free handing projects! I love your explanations, pacing and the way your show your stitches! Thank you!
Robin, you're such a great teacher. I refer a lot of friends to your channel. I mostly knit, but crochet all my blankets. Do you think you could do a tutorial on a rectangular granny " square"? Please ❤
Hi Robin, first time I’ve ever attempted a granny square. Your method of teaching is bang on, and super easy to follow, you certainly have a gift in more ways than one. I’d just like to know if there is a written pattern for this granny square please? Otherwise I’ll have to rewatch the video over again so I can write the steps down. Watching/crocheting along from Whangarei New Zealand …with a head cold. Hope to hear from you soon 🌟
Hi Robin how are you doing today iam doing fine today thank you for the information your granny square is looking very beautiful colors and very beautiful work thank you for sharing stay safe ❤❤❤
i am trying to learn this crochet skill. Of all the videos I have watched , yours are the best. ....very easy to understand.....thank you. I am encouraged and will try this pattern . Emma
I've just watched your other video on how to make a magic ring and I thought it was a bit fiddly for me. When I saw this video with the way you made the magic ring with just one finger, it seems so much easier to handle the ring. I'll use this method fr now on. Thank you for the video. Ive always love your clear instructions on which stitch to go into. 😍😍
Hi Robin love watching your videos I noticed your stitches are so very uniform how do you hold the yarn to make your stitches so beautiful minor always wonky need advice Please help thank you beautiful work
Mary Mc. Can you please tell me the name of the colors that you used, the yarn name, and where you purchased the yarn? Thank you in advance - can't wait!😊
Hi Mary, The yarn I used for my flower square: Hayfield Bonus Chunky in the shades Electric Pink, Azure, Lemon Grass, Cornfield, Clementine and Ladybird with a 6mm Crochet Hook. I bought it from here: www.lovecrafts.com/en-gb/p/hayfield-bonus-chunky but unfortunately some of the colours are out of stock.🧶
Im definitely goimg to have a go you make it look so easy ive not had the confidence to do granny square's yet ive been just doing backwards and forwards learming different stiches 😅😅 xx
On this colorful Granny square that you're showing us how to work today your colors are so vivid bright and beautiful what type of yarn are you using I love the look
Hi, the yarn I used for my flower square: Hayfield Bonus Chunky in the shades Electric Pink, Azure, Lemon Grass, Cornfield, Clementine and Ladybird with a 6mm Crochet Hook.😀🌈
I have been crocheting since December 2023, so am really a beginner. I am teaching myself to crochet by watching videos and reading through all the comments on the various crochet groups. What I love about your videos is that you always give the instructions very clearly, and always give a reason for why you're doing something. That makes a huge difference to someone who's learning. I was a teacher for 17 years and know good teaching when I see it. Great job, Robin! ❤
Well that looks easy going :) I move next Saturday other then unpacking , I won’t be bored lol Between doing another Log Cabin blanket for my mother and starting this blanket .. holy cow😂 never be bored again 😂❤😊
