It’s always interesting when I see someone that forms stitches by wrapping their yarn clockwise as opposed to the generally used counter-clockwise wrap. Considering the predominant twist in yarn manufacturing-which is S-twist-crocheting in the conventional way causes the yarn to lose its twist. It’s quite undesirable because it encourages splittimg yarn. It can be somewhat mitigated by making sure the direction by which the yarn is coming off of a skein is adding some twist back to the yarn. By forming stitches the way you are doing adds some twist to the yarn which helps with strength, durability, stitch definition, and split stitches. Did you learn to crochet this way or did you make a conscious decision to crochet this way? Obviously it works great for you 🤩
@KnitGrit
@KnitGrit 2 года назад
I’m actually dyslexic so I learned the wrong way, but I liked how it looked so I stuck with it! I later found out this is a technique called a X stitch, versus a Y stitch which is the traditional way. A lot of amigurumi artists use the X stitch since it does just what you said, and in my opinion is also looks “bubblier” which is perfect for amigurumi! ❤️
@KnitGrit
@KnitGrit 2 года назад
I did an entire video showing how it looks every way you could wrap it for a single Crochet, too. I actually like wrapping under and then wrapping over the best but it’s a habit to wrap under both times now, lol!

@KnitGrit

Their bodies, Lunas have longer thinner legs versus the Squish which have shorter stubbier legs and a wider hip. ☺️

Okay what am I doing wrong? When I start making the body the decreases start showing and wrapping around instead of going along the edges. You basically see a line going diagonal across the body. I’m counting and I have the right number of stitches each time but I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Hi, is there any videos or help on how to do the increasing of the head ? as I’m struggling with only that part. The written down confuses me as I’m better with watching and listening. I’m good with the 6-12 increase but after that I don’t know how to do it as it keeps ending up way smaller than it should be. so if you can help it would be really appreciated☺️ x

Question. Is there a reason you don’t crochet the head and body as one? Crocheting the head from bottom to top? I hate sewing so I try to find loopholes when I can. Lol.

Each time with the feet, I ended up working from the inside and not the outside of them like you show. I kept going to see if it worked anyways, then the chain between the feet ended up twisted. I gave up and undid it all. 😭

Can anyone help please, if I wanted to make this, but bigger, do I need to do more stitches, or could I just go up a few hook sizes? Would that work? I'm a beginner 😅
@KnitGrit
@KnitGrit 3 года назад
You have a couple of options! I just did a video which I uploaded yesterday; that explains how I make different size balls and how I expand my amigurumi. OR you could use a larger yarn, I made one of these with velvet blanket yarn a few weeks ago and it turned out HUGE. I just used a hook a few times smaller than what the yarn called for. That may be the easiest way.

Such a clear tutorial! This doll looks super firm. Is it squishy and cuddly or more of an intentionally stiff type plushie? I have a super soft fuzzy yarn I'd like to use (Yarn Bee - warm and cozy) that says it's the right size, but seems a lot more lightweight than others the same size.... we'll see! I'm still a beginner and have stuck to scarves for the most part, though I did get brave and made a pair of baby scratch mittens with the Yarn Bee product this week that turned out (slightly and not noticeably uneven but) super cute. ❤️ Excited to try this! Thanks for sharing.

I actually made an extra large version of this with velvet blanket yarn! Was a bit more floppy than the one with worsted yarn, but I just went down a few sizes to what the yarn called for and made sure that the holes in my stitches weren’t too big to show the stuffing. Let me know how it turns out! 😁

I would definitely say practice makes perfect! Don’t be afraid to get stitching. Find some decent cheap yarn and just go to town. I also have a Crochet 101 playlist for some more basics! But don’t be afraid to find other videos if mine don’t speak to you. I had to go through so many RU-vid videos before things clicked and made sense for me!
