Tip for tangling yarn, get a colander from the thrift store/charity shop and put each strand of yarn through a separate hole. Its better than a yarn bowl! Thanks for the great stash buster video!
Yes, sorry. It wasn't the greatest demo, we should have got in closer. If you get the chance to watch it on a bigger screen it might help, also you can slow the demo down with the little settings 'cogwheel' that should be in the bottom right corner of the demo if you hover over there, c x
Came here from the crochet magazine, this video was advertised in it, maybe not the best tutorial example to draw people to, even though i love the bowls, I have used cord in this way so assume the method is the same, will try to watch on a bigger screen to get the shaping. Thanks for the idea.
I am so looking forward to your next video, I can't wait to learn this method! I so enjoyed your clear and pleasant voice! Perhaps a viewing approach from behind/overhead and a bit slower presentation? Thanks so much for this video! I would so love a yarn bowl, too pricey in stores! And nothing better than to use up my idle scrap stash, it will be a much loved yarn bowl! :)
Yes, sorry, needed to keep the demo fairly short. Once you've reached the diameter of the bowl you want just work double crochet into each stitch without any increases to raise the sides. We have a demo coming soon to make a slouch bag which is in four parts so that series might explain what I mean. Hoping to get it live by the end of the week, c x
I LOVED this video! I’m always hording my small left over wee bits of yarn. I hate to throw them away and while I can use them to stuff things, I sure like this idea much better. I can use the scraps to make items to organize my craft room or make bowl cozies or a myriad of things. I’m so glad to see imaginative ways to use the leftovers! Thanks for a fabulous video which has gotten my creative juices going! By the way: what did you do with the beginning portion (tassel-like knot to start with)? Did you just clip it off or did something else creative?❤❤❤❤❤
Good thing is, it's a project that you can just pick up when you have five minutes. Also when the bowl gets bigger you can pack your yarn inside it for transportation. c x
Please take this as constructive criticism. Your framing should really be in much tighter so we can actually see what you're doing. I'm new to crochet and thought this would be a simple place to start, but I can't see well enough to get any help from the video. Neat idea though. I'd like to see you do one with cotton cord inside instead of yarn. Would the technique be any different? Thank you.
Hi Ali, yes I appreciate it could have come in tighter. Watching it on a laptop is much clearer than a phone so when we edit we don't realise. A cotton cord core would work with the same principle, just run the excess yarns alongside it as you crochet over them so you can change colour without obvious joins. c x
@@TheCraftsChannel I'm sure creating and editing a video is much harder than the average person thinks. I hope you didn't take that as me being rude. Not being close enough is a problem often found in crafting and makeup videos. I just usually keep my mouth shut because I know I couldn't do any better. 😅 Running all the yarn with the cord sounds like it would be much stronger than burying thread tails as you go like I was thinking. Thank you.
This project is stunningly beautiful but for me to learn it, you'd really need an overhead camera so I could look down at your hands, from your perspective. Thank you for trying.
Yes, it's not the easiest to see, especially if you're looking on a phone or tablet sorry. At some point I might try and re-shoot this as it's really easy to do, just not so easy to demonstrate, c x
@@TheCraftsChannel watching on the television did help but i couldn't follow the point of view changes. I guess it's me. My great grandmother tried to teach me something complicated, I couldn't follow unless she was beside me.
Yes, we're working on a way to zoom in on so it's easier to see on a phone or similar. You don't need a bigger hook as you're only working with one strand at a time, c x
I can see what you are trying to do can you tell me do I do two sc in each stitch on every round? Love the finished articles and am determined to try them as I have lots of leftover wool?
Yes, I'm sorry too. Didn't realise how small it would be on a phone screen. If you're used to crocheting you can pick up the method by trial and error and once you get the hang of it it's really easy, c x
Yes, sorry, I was really cack-handed in the beginning. Tie your six yarns in a knot, separate the working yarn from the hank and hold under tension. Slip the hook under the hank and grab the working yarn, slip the hook over the hank and grab the working yarn again to leave two loops on the hook. Slip the first loop over the second and repeat the working around the hank so there are three loops on the hook. Slip the first and second loops over the third and continue. Does this make more sense? c x
Yes, we learnt from our mistakes, we really didn't come in close enough. You can slow the demo down with the little cogwheel icon in the bottom right of the screen, that might help a bit. Or you could try casting the demo onto a big screen? c x
Yes, sorry. We've learnt from our mistake. It is easier to see on a big screen if you can bring it up on your tv. Essentially it is just working double crochet (single if you're in the US) around a hank of yarn, curling it into a loop and then working dc into the previous stitches, c x
Yes, I know. Didn't realise it at the time sadly but it's better viewed on a computer monitor or even a tv if you have the option. We released it because it's still a good technique, and we've definitely learned from our mistakes, c x
