I know this is old, but for anyone still struggling… the ripple stitch always starts and ends with an increase. So if counting the chain as a stitch confuses you then ignore the turning chain, and put 2DC in the first STITCH (not chain) then don’t work into the turning chain at each end. If you are counting the chain as a stitch, the first DC still goes in the STITCH(not the first chain). Also, to keep the ripple effect your increases should always be on top of your increases from the previous row and decreases on top of decreases.. I hope that helps!! And to wool and the gang: I feel like the person in this video is not an experienced crocheter and made some errors and could’ve done a LOT better at explaining/showing(especially if it’s labeled as a beginner project). If you’re charging as much as you are for the kit to make this sweater, put more effort into the pattern please!

Thank you! This is super helpful, I got 72 stitches this evening, but 69 on previous attempt. Going by what you say if I do 2DC into one stitch at start and end of the row that should equal 70... time to try again, wish me luck!

You just start with chains of the length you want then do these steps as if it was your second row.

I bought this kit from WATG, to make the ripple Malibu outfit. I’m making the (size 1), the pattern is confusing and the tutorial doesn’t… really explain, it to well? This’s my first time ordering from them and the kit is costly. So to spend that much and the pattern instruction does not add up leave me put of.😔

ok the stich itself is not hard, I’ve done this before, but pls explain to me why the written pattern differs from the video?? i thought the pattern was strange since i know how to do ripple stich so i checked out the video and the instructions are different??

This video and the written pattern are so different. I’ve had to restart more than I ever have for any project, and even reached out to the help desk at WATG because I’m so lost lol. The written pattern only calls for one increase, then immediately making 4dc’s “work 2dc stitches into the next stitch, work 4 dc stitches.” Also for my size (size 1) the starting ch is not a multiple of either 12 or 14, which is the only way I’ve ever been taught to make a ripple stitch (I think this is where most of my confusion is coming from.) The written pattern also doesn’t call for placing 2dcs into the last stitch, unlike this video shows………what gives?

This is really confusing. I bought this exact kit from WATG and the instructions say to ‘work 2 double crochet stitches into the next stitch’ but also to make ‘2 double crochet decreases’ is this not the same thing? Also the booklet doesn’t even explain how to do decreases.. unsure how this is a beginner project
@stephaniechinapen1255
@stephaniechinapen1255 3 года назад
If working 2 double crochet stitches into one stitch is considered an ‘increase’ then it should say that in the instructions, unless I’m totally wrong
@xbreakasmile
@xbreakasmile 3 года назад
@@stephaniechinapen1255 not sure if you’re still stuck on this, but a decrease is stitching 2 stitches together and an increase means putting 2 stitches into one stitch. Eg. If you have 10 stitches in row 1, increasing in every stitch would give you 20 stitches in row 2. Decreasing (stitching 2 stitches together) would give you 5 stitches at the end of row 2 :)

@@BBknits don’t purchase the pattern. it doesn’t give you the correct ripple stitch pattern and it won’t end up correctly. watch a different video on the ripple stitch and add a row of single crochet at end of each sleeve to make it easier to attach to the body. just measure the pieces to your own body to get the correct height and width. 64, 70, 84 or 98 + 3 are good chain lengths to start with. the sleeves should be a size smaller (-14 chains) than than the body and i prefer to make my sleeves longer than the body. also use a 6.5 hook(us k)

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YXpj0-XVzMg.html This is a link to a video on how to do the ripple pattern. If you are wanting to make a sweater, I would make 2 large pannels for the front in back doing this stitch for however big you want to make it, then make the sleves by making 2 rectangles that are wide enough to go around your arms. after that, stitch it all together, Im sure you can find many videos on how to do it and then you have a sweater! Hope this helps you!

This shows starting a new row in two different ways. From the red to pink the first double stitch goes into the first stitch, but from pink to blue she goes into the base of the chain! I followed the second one by accident, and I kept getting an additional stitch per row. What is the right way???
@bethanreed5442
@bethanreed5442 4 года назад
I’m making this jumper at the moment and the WATG instructions for starting a new row state ‘change colour by making 3 chain stitches into the first stitch of your row. Work 1 double crochet stitch into the same stitch’ then you carry on with the four double crochets etc.. so the second colour change she does it how it’s meant to be done which makes sense as at the end of each row there are two double crochets in the beginning and end stitch so it matches up.

This still confuses me! I’ve tried alternating them but my edges are all wonky on on side and nice and straight on the other...
@kwybenga
@kwybenga 4 года назад
@@ashleightaylor5870 Sorry I just saw your comment. I just finished my sweater! It took me a while. I ended up sort of editing the instructions to make more sense for myself. I was making a size 1 for reference, so on the body pieces, I had 64 stitches per row. Each time I started a new row I would do a turning chain of 3 stitches with the new color. Then I did 3 stitches in double crochet. Then came the portion in the stars which I followed and repeated. Finally, toward the end of the row, into the last 2 stitches, I needed to do a double crochet decrease. This is the way I made it possible to always keep 64 stitches in each row. Maybe this is also what they were saying in the video, but this is the way I was able to keep it logical in my head! I'm new at crochet. My final product turned out really well!

@@kwybenga what did you do with all your loose ends at the end of each row? Did you weave them in to the back side or just cut them? I cut my yarn too short to weave in (about 2'') and worried my work will unravel. Thanks!
