I seen an older guy feeding them a little natural yogurt on a little bit of brown bread. It seemed to work very well. The idea of the natural yogurt was the good bacteria that kept them healthy and also transferred the good nutrients to the fish. 👍
I've tried this bread-yogurt method before, but it didn't quite work for me as lots of mould and smell was developing. Probably it is fine if you keep cultures in a basement fishroom, but I have mine in our living room. I only do maintenance on them once in 3 days so I can't have feeding media that spoils fast
I found my grindle worms that have mites did not breed as much. It appears if you have a healthy culture of worms the mites don’t take over as quickly. Mine got infested because I didn’t close the lid correctly. I like that you use sponge vs. scrub pads or coconut and also like that you use fish food.
Absolutely agreed. None of my cultures with mites seems to thrive. The only good thing about it is that my fish go nuts for mites and devour them in seconds
Very informative video. Thank you. I don't culture grindal worms, as I am currently using white worms. What I have found is that if I feed some nutritional yeast to my cultures every few days, I get a surge in worm numbers greater than when feeding porridge or bread on their own. Perhaps this supplement could enhance your worm production as it has done mine?
Thanks for the tip! I have added some yeast to a few of my cultures yesterday. I'll keep an eye on them, hoping that they respond to it in the same manner as white worms
I do much the same things as you for my cultures. (My Neons love them more than life itself :) I do use crushed up dog treats and so far no fungus though I think ultimately feeding fish makes sense using fish food.
