WOW! Once again you have saved my baby fish! I definitely have seen cyclops and didn’t even think about them killing off my cultures! 🤦🏻♀️ YOU ARE AMAZING!!!! No one helps breeders like you do man! ❤️❤️❤️
When i was a kid i used to harvest tadpoles and grow them into tiny frogs for me to release and i fed them infusoria, the recipe was way simpler in the 80s: I just put some lettuce into a jar of water and left it in the sunlight until the water got yellow, then i poured some of that water to my growing tadpoles, it was a fun kid science project!
Tried the yeast method its so ez. Day 2 the water clears and by day 4 its full of infusoria. Thanks i just breed my tiger barbs, danios, redeye tetra and black widow tetra. I estimated like 1.5 - 2k fry and this help me a lot. Cant thank you enough man.
Thanks for the vid. Tried the boiled veggie method a few times with no success. Tried your yeast method and worked first time . Made a second batch and worked first go to . I've been using the yeast to keep my culture going and so far it's now been 5weeks in a large jar and thriving .. thanks again...
You're always my go to when it comes to fish care! I recently breed two marble bettas because of your breeding betta in tub video...that video alone made my first fish breeding a success. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
THANKS! I tried about 6 times using various methods (lettuce, spirulina, filter sludge). I finally had success with your method. 20 fat zebra danios thank you too.
De todos los vídeos q he visto buscando como hacer infusorios.... Este ha Sido el único q funciona. Claro, al grano y bien explicado, y eso q está en inglés. Este chico ya es una autoridad en el aquarismo, saludos desde México 🇲🇽
THANK YOU!! You are the best. I have been keeping fish for 30 years and your methods are unique. I will try this week-end. Again you are a great inspiration for this hobby, I am very impress by your knowledge and your wiliness to share the good and the bad. I guess big RU-vidrs are forgetting that we are learning a great deal from mistake. One that I will share openly is the use of rain water (substitute for RO water). This is a great method if you do not want to invest in a RO system. BUT, be very careful, rainwater can have MAJOR problems, such as pest infestation if you leave your water outside for few days. I had QTY 3 tanks infested with leeches. Nothing kills Leeches, you can through away everything (plants/substrate), boil you equipment (filter/heater/sponge/media), disinfect your tank with alcohol and start all over again, hoping you are not killing your fish and they are not infected. No one will tell you the risk of using rainwater well, here you go! lesson learned, I need to invest in a small RO system. Thank you.
I know this is a year old at this point but ro water isn't the best for fish cause it's had it minerals removed. You have to re-add them every time, way to much extra work. Just treat tap water with water conditioner. Or let it sit out for a few days with an air stone in it. Spending hundreds of dollars on an ro system just to have to put in more work for water changes is well.... Dumb😅
Great video, I just started breeding fish and have been using frozen baby brine shrimp and powdered food but this is a great educational video for those of us just starting out
Wait a second! Should anyone expect to have infusoria in their filters all along? I feel so much hasn't been explained in this video. You need to make an in depth video on this since to me you did a magic!
I also saw a video where the guy said to collect random water, from like ponds or lakes or buckets with leaves or whatever then put it in a jar for a few days and watch and see if there's infusoria in there. When you see them, suck them up with a pipette and use that to feed your culture. That way you can be selective in what you breed.
i recently added some swan mussles to my tank and because theyre filter feeders i was really worried i had made an impulse buy with no idea of how to feed them. this video was very informative and im pleased to say my mussels doing well.
Your muscles shouldn’t need to be fed tbh. They eat the fish waste. 1 per 40 litres of tank water is enough to sustain simply off algae, bacteria and fish waist
Omg yay! I’ve been waiting excitedly for this vid to come out. I’ve tried all the vegetable methods but it doesn’t work. I will try both methods as soon as I can get my hands on another bunch of Java moss at my local fish auction, whenever they are back. Amazing video, I used to say u we’re going places but I think u are there now. What an inspiration. Thanks
@@Vgb_ali_official mix a little gran flour in water to make a “milk” lime solution. Add just enough of the solution to the infusoria culture to turn it slightly cloudy - the infusoria will feed on this or the bacteria it produces.
I always appreciate all accounts of people who actually use stuff like this. Sometimes you get opinions on these culturing topics where you don't know that they're actually doing it, at all, or at scale. I would be a little scared about the "stinky" method fouling up the aquarium water because the fry live in a smaller volume.
Awesome video and information. Thank you Nick your video has been a ton of help. And I agree your culturing methods are very simple and much faster to become usable.
If you’re serious about infusoria, it’s worthwhile to look at a few drops of your culture water under a microscope (one drop at a time) so you can see how many and what kinds are in the culture. A cheap microscope is good enough, although you may want to look for one that lets you save pictures to your smartphone (if you have a smartphone).
I have many tubs and bins of plants that tend to rot a little and some algae. I suppose they also have infusoria yet I don't have a microscope to test out that theory. However, in the past whenever I need to house fish for a build I tend to leave them in those tanks and have found fish fry thriving; I raised a few to maturity that way too.
Great info, thanks! Every day I spot more and more cpd fry in my tank and while they must be finding things to eat in there I want to add infusoria and bbs to make sure they survive and grow well
It's just the video we were looking for, thank you very much. all step by step and very detailed in a very simple way. We send you greetings from Uruguay!!
I used your quick method with my Galaxy Raspora and Red Neon blue eyed tetras ~ despite not being able to see the fish are going crazy 😅 eating something ! Thank you!
Infusoria is word that describe multiple species. And copepods and Cyclops(type of copepod) is one of them. So his wording does not make much of a sense... he complains that bigger copepods eat smaller copepods, which is infact wrong. The only preditor at that scale are hydras.
@@henrytoledo4103 no i have 3 aquariums in which i breed guppies for prophet in but i am not a hardcore fish keeper like keepingfishsimple. I've just never heard that word before.
@@henrytoledo4103 I don’t think there was a need for that comment. Infusoria is not as common as you think as u commonly can’t buy it and don’t need it for most fry, only micro species. Even then there are other things that people might just know about.
This is great, I'd never thought of using yeast. It'll definitely make me more popular at home. Do you have any issues with the culture impacting your fry tank parameters at all?
Great learning video ! You just stay true to yourself and have fun sharing what you have learned. You really do a beautiful job on all levels here on RU-vid. If others want to argue, just let them be, they're not worth the energy. i used to breed all kinds of fish back in the 70's, way before the internet. i had a public library for my studies where i had to look up infusoria and how to culture it. The biggest secret for success for raising fry to the safety of the juvenile stages. Have you tried the hardboiled egg yolk technique for the babies ? Thanks for sharing !
I initially skipped watching this video because I didn’t think I’d need to know how to culture infusoria. 8 months later, I’m trying to breed CBDs, and I’m watching this video in preparation for the fry.
How exciting! I have pink glo-fish danios that hatched yesterday, so this is perfect timing. I'm getting ready to breed some bettas soon because it's SO much fun. Good luck! :)
so i was wondering how my neon tetra babies would grow up easily without feeding them. guess the little tiny white things i see in my tank are infusorias. thought it was planaria or something i never do gravel vacuum and have tone of plants with dead plant leaves. and me trying to feed the babies with egg yolk might have started a infusoria culture without me realizing it. and yes just like the video i have a ton of dead looking java moss like ur bucket, of course i have a lot of healthy ones but recently in the corner of the tank a baseball size batch started to decay but i never cleaned it up and guess that also triggered a infusoria boom on my tank lol
I got some green water from outside and left it inside for a couple days then put it in my pearl Gourami fry tank think it kept them busy in-between when I was feeding vinegar eels. now they're bigger they love microworms
yeah, even for infusories brocolis are bad 😁😅😅 Thanks for the method with the yeast , simple and efficient and no smell is a big plus !! BTW you look awesome with a moustache ! 🤩🤩
Awesome video Sir. Excellent information. 👍👍👍👍👍 I just asked on your last post how to make it & very next video you shared your method. Thank you Sir. Keep up the great work...
Well done, great video. My batches using the rotting broccoli ect have been hit and miss. Spectacular success or total doom. This looks more reliable. Thank you for sharing.
I remove the male. It also helps the female to hide among the Java moss. The Java moss raised the babies. I did not hatch any brine shrimp. It is just Java moss and crashed flake.
i fermented a mango puree with s. boulardii which is a yeast that is a cousin to brewers yeast. i could easily take some of that yeasty mango paste and freeze it into ice cubes and toss in an ice cube in a jar with some dirty tank water easily. along with whatever plant clippings i am not replanting. could be interesting. way to keep it going if they like rotting plants (no longer sweet because of the yeast) and yeast.
Nice video Nick! Super helpful! But I have a question; do we need to buy a culture for the 2nd method? Thanks for making this video and making it easy for every one out there who wants something good to feed to their fry. Keep up the amazing work bro! 👍👏🐠
So, you're saying that if I put some water in a jar, squeeze a sponge from a filter and there, and feed with yeast, it will grow infusoria? Meaning that they are normally in the aquarium? Or do I need to have an initial culture? Also, do baby shrimp eat infusoria? Please, I'd really appreciate answers. Thank you for the video, and for answering.
How do you feed from the yeast solution? Do you filter it through a cloth, pipe up some and leave some? Do you use a torchlight to attract the infusoria? Is it ok to put the yeast water into the aquarium?
All I get when I try is seedshrimp and cyclops. 🤷🏼♀️🤦♀️ Edit: I checked again in a dark room with a flashlight and now it seems that my culture is full of tiny dust specs. I guess I managed to create infusoria culture on your advice! It has some cyclops and seed shrimp too. But I guess it is not bad. I used yeast method.
Good thing I watched this video. I have a jar of have moss in a glass jar and just went to look at it. It’s has these little things that’s moving. Looks like dust. Just hope it is Infusoria. I’ll have to move it to a bigger jar. Don’t know how long these things live for.
HI KFS U ARE SOO HELPFUL I HAVE PLATYS AND THEY HAD BABIES AT ABOUT 1 OR 2 AM AND I ONLY FOUND 4 FRY BUT IM ONLY A BEGINNER WISH ME LUCK. PS I ONLY GOT THE PLATYS YESTERDAY AND CAN U GIVE ME SOME TIPS FOR PLATYS
Nice video... Question... Can we directly feed infusoria grown using yeast to fries ? Coz I wash daphnia culture grown using yeast before feeding it to fish...
