Customizing your skateboard is always fun! Here's how I get rid of wheelbite without using riser pads, which is the typical way to avoid wheelbite - I like having a low profile skateboard. Subscribe: bit.ly/subscribezackdowdy

Are you a riser pad skater or do you prefer wheel wells?
@_functionless

I have risers rn after getting a 9.8 w ace 77's (I was inspired by your recent set up vid). best choice I ever made. I never consider routing it out this way, as I still get bite with the riser when I land. anyway, lovin the pool sessions. I'm 4 yrs younger than you but have a loong way to go (working on rock fakies and 50-50's on steeper transition). peace!!!

I am short and I ride my street board to school, so extra height makes it uncomfortable to push. Especially on uphill sections. I’ve never had a deck with wheel wells though. Good thing they make street sized cruiser wheels

I ride on 1/8" risers, but mostly because I want to have a slight buffer between the deck and the trucks.. oh and also 59mm wheels lol. Need for speed bombing hills (and smoother city cruising) :P. Love the vid! I still get a bit of wheel bite, so will definitely try carving out that bite area. Fun little project idea! Thanks!

While wheel wells makes the board structurally weaker, adding riser pads absorb a lot of impact when landing tricks (and prevents board cracks) . Rubber riser pads absorb rough concrete and asphalt better, dampen the pop sound and keep the hardware and trucks in place even after weeks of heavy curb grinding. Needles to say, they allow you to pop tricks higher.

I actually use the carver risers when I ride my large boards but I make wells on anything under 9.0

That's a good idea, most longboards have that shape. I would recommend to wax that spot.

I like a touch of wheelbite, it adds gravitas to the landing impact and it trains me to be more careful how I land or carve. I'm not good enough to encourage a lot of wheelbite, but if I ever am troubled by it I prefer a little wax on my deck. I still get that impact bite that I'm familiar with but my wheels will pull themselves right out of it before I can be thrown off.

Andy Anderson mentioned a antiwheel bite method in a board build video. The one where he's building a board next to a half pipe. It had something to do with the bushings. It sounded like they were set up in a way that the top of the truck and bottom truck would connect at the bushings in such a way that it prevented the truck from turning further. Since the trucks would only turn so far it eliminated wheel bite. Makes me wonder if some sort of space could be made that would fit over the bottom bushing and make it so the truck would only turn so far.

I've found that applying some wax on my board just above the wheels helps prevent wheel bite well enough... I ride my trucks medium loose though, and don't skate much Transition at the moment... Great idea for those that skate looser trucks and Transition though! Great content man, keep Rippin' 🔥☺️🔥

Dude those time crunch skate seshes have me so juiced sometimes too haha it makes me skate like it’s my last sesh, always a bummer having to leave lol I love a nice sporty Cadillac type of ride 14.25 wheel base I seem to work best with 56 mm wheels and risers give me a good balance but I’ve been more about the surfing style skate lately (curren caples esk) rather than the flippy crazy stuff. I also feel it save your board some minor impact damage by having plastic be in between the metal and wood

Are you gonna clear coat the wheel wells? I usually spray a bit on. Seals it up nice and keeps moisture out. I've tried waxing the wheel bite spots but would get wax on my wheels then. Madness have loads of cool boards with wheel wells already in em. Skating my 5th deck in a row from them.

Some boards come with wheel wells, but I don’t think it’ll play to much into the strength. In my experience boards break in the middle or around the truck. I’m sure it doesn’t help the strength though haha!

Ayooo Dowdster, Not sure if you’ve seen, but Polar makes some nice boards with wheel wells. I've had a couple, and they serve my purposes nicely coupled with a pair of Aces. Additionally, do you think you'd be willing to refine your wheel well geometry and design? They're looking a little haggard at the moment, innit?

Wax those spots. I would not ever recommend this solution, the board will break much easier in spots they don't normally break once you remove too many layers of hardwood.

Do you think by doing this the board will break faster? I wanna try this but I’m not sure
@shelbyseitzinger927
@shelbyseitzinger927 Год назад
@Drill try what you want😁 but yes I think for an older skater like myself who isn't pushing too hard into progressing into tech; the longevity of the board is compromised, however someone who is better than me has more to worry about(the board is going to break regardless)

That is just silly, rock it until they don't bite, or power through it. Next I guess your going to tell us to pregrind your new trucks so you'll have the "groove" your used to. Stop it. The answer to wheel bite is tighten your trucks, install risers, get smaller durometer wheels, or any combination of those three.
