In this video, I will show you how to create your own custom box size and cut a cardboard box on your laser using a free template maker. I created my own packing boxes on my Thunder Nova 51/130 laser using flat cardboard sheets. It is a much more affordable way for me to ship products to customers without purchasing a bunch of different sized boxes.

Thank you for looking into this! As a model builder I was looking at this from a different angle. Remove the backing from one side so the corrugated surface is exposed and then run it through the laser and you have a wavy surface for stuff like ancient Japanese castle roofs.

Thank-you. I received my laser yesterday. I was looking for a reasonable first project to 'break-in' my laser and bring me some exposure to Lightburn. Within 30 minutes I had 2 custom sized cardboard boxes. You made the whole process so easy and I loved the tip for the template website.

Amazing thanks! I am on xtool and their xcs software, they dont explicitly have a preferation mode setting... Do you have any idea how to go about making a box wihtout this function? Thanks!
@addicted2diy
@addicted2diy 7 месяцев назад
That’s a good question. Maybe make those lines a scored line, so you know where to fold the cardboard? So a partial cut through just the top layer of the cardboard? Are all Xtool lasers compatible with Lightburn? If so, that could be an option for you. I just purchased an F1 today and I know it’s compatible with Lightburn.

Great video. I want to start doing this. How much extra space do you use on the edges to protect art when shipping?
@jonjonword6222

crush the perfs with a dowel or rubber mallet before you fold them and you will get a better fold result

Thanks, great job 🥰 you've done But I faced the problem of the smell of the carboard fire, how can I remove the smell because I want to put baked goods in this package

Hi, When I increase the flap after selecting the node when I hit the side arrow, it's going very long. Also, when I import the picture, my box is very large as well. Maybe my scale settings are not right. Thanks for making the box.

Thanks for the awesome video! I tried it out today and I have a question about the type of cardboard. I tried it will a 2 mm sheet of corrugated and when it bent the cardboard at the perforations that run perpendicular to the grain of the cardboard the card board rips/cracks. Are you using a thinner cardboard? Thanks again for the video!
@erinthomas3112
@erinthomas3112 Год назад
For anyone reading this comment having the same issue, I was able to solve the issue by changing the power and speed on my perforation cut so that it would only cut through one side of the paper on the corrugated cardboard rather than cutting all the way through. When you bend the sides, you place your cut piece with perforation side up bend the sides up. That helped prevent any cracking or tearing on the outside of the box and it is nice and strong.

Where do you find the cardboard sheets? Thanks for a great video.
@addicted2diy
@addicted2diy Год назад
The sheets can be purchased from Amazon or Uline. If purchasing just a few sheets, I highly recommend Amazon. You won’t have to order a crazy amount and you will receive free shipping! It will just be a bit slower than Uline

if you call the design dept of any local corrugated box plant - they can hook you up with cheap sheets - maybe even free scrap pieces

do you have to let the cardboard set or does it have a burn smell?

I’ve never noticed a burned smell at all when cutting cardboard.

how long does it take to make one regular box
@addicted2diy
@addicted2diy Год назад
Just a few minutes. I think to cut the box on my laser is maybe 2 minutes? Then assembly. Which I have to do anyway, regardless of whether I make or buy them

Thanks for the step by step walkthrough on making boxes, I prefer using a glue gun on the flaps myself since I have it out for projects anyways.

Perfect 😊 But why not use paper tape? It looks nicer in my opinion.
@addicted2diy
@addicted2diy Год назад
I’m not sure what you mean by proper tape. Do you mean instead of the 3m?
@patrickh9810
@patrickh9810 Год назад
@Katie Cleveland ☺️ I mean paper tape, (not proper 😁) for the boxes. Instead of the transparent tape. Not important but I think it looks nicer.
@addicted2diy
@addicted2diy Год назад
Oh, gotcha. I just don’t have or use that tape.
