Hello there!
My name is Caroline Jariwala also known as Mango Mosaics 🧡🙏🏾🧡
In this filmette I demonstrate four basic cutting techniques that I use for my mosaic making.
The tool I am using is a Side Biter.
Please note that this was my first filmette and I made a mistake by popping the camera in portrait instead of landscape! Mosaic making through the keyhole. Judging by the views, folks still enjoy watching regardless 😉

Thank you Caroline for this very useful tutorial video, very informative. I only have wheeled nippers that I use for glass. I will be buying some of these and some ceramic tiles and having a go. You have made it look easy but I know it takes a lot of practise. I feel very inspired, again thank you.

I just got my cutting tools , I’m new to this and can’t wait to try , I had brought some dishes to cut up but I think the tile will be better as to laying flat , thank for sharing your talent

This video really helped me! I'm a ceramicist and painter who wants to get into mosaics. So what did I do? Made a whole bunch of tiny tiles! From here on out its big tiles and nippers...Thank you! Could you possibly shoot the video again from a wider angle?

I am doing a large outdoors mosaic project. Decided to recruit other folks to help me. Before they begin with their individual mosaic, they sit down in front of the computer and watch your video. After looking at many other mosaic videos, yours was the best. It is very informative and basic. I agree on the strange view of your camera. Maybe you could rerecord the instructions with a better wider view.

+Wendy Daugherty I only know them as glass gloves... garden gloves are also good as they have a rubber texture, important to avoid cuts to the hand!

Thank you for your great video. I am planning on making a mosaic memorial bench for a woman who lost her 4 month old son. Can you give me some advice? I have not done this before but and very artistic and capable. I see a lot of videos of people gluing tile down to a paper with a design on it first. Can you explain what method will be best for me. I know its quite a lot to ask, but my cousin asked this of me and her and this woman do many charity events in her son's memory and i'd love to help. TA. I am in the US.

You'll have to email me with an image... as I have no idea how it breaks. Sometimes it's the tile that makes the cleaner cut. I use a combination of tile nipper and score snapper. Email me via my website mangomosaics.co.uk

Yes it's Mapei Ultracolour plus. The colours I use are my favourites 144 chocolate, 120 black and 112 grey. I'm in the UK, but I believe you can purchase these around the globe 😊

Thankyou for the video and inspiration. Can I ask why my tiles always cut diagonally when I use my side biters? I never get a straight cut it always cuts a triangle

You have to make sure that your side biter is absolutely horizontal to make a cut... however to prevent wasting tiles it would be beneficial to purchase a glass scorer and a scorer snapper. Hi. I love your mosaics. I an learning to do them and want to use ceramic tiles in bright colours but I CAN ONLY FIND BORING SHADES OF GREY!!! I live in Hertfordshire Can you tell me where you source the bright coloured tiles? Thank you.

I live in Bearwood, West Midlands. There's an end-of-line tile warehouse, Tile Plus, that has bright colours for sale. Look up Walls and Floors. Try looking at Ebay, sometimes there's a supplier who is willing to deliver.

For a left handed person, you would have the curved side facing the right. Often left handed friends say that they would use the back of the tile pointing towards the right as their usual way of working. I'm thinking of making a new filmette on How to use a Side Biter... watch this space 😉

thank you for that lesson..I had a brainstorm this morning about trying a mosaic pattern for a back-splash for my new kitchen..instead of a regular tiled back-splash l thought mosaics would be more interesting and original..my kitchen guy happened to mention to me yesterday that he had stacks of leftover tiles, but not enough of any one tile style to do a complete job..l figure a mosaic picture would be a good use of tiles, and cheaper too..now to scourer RU-vid for vids like yours..thanks..
