In this video I run through how I like to cut a metal web or posi joists to length when they are supplied with trim-able ends, this is only allowed if the joists are made by the manufacturer with a suitable end for trimming, please do not cut any metal web or posi joist without checking that they are suitable for trimming

I use an Evolution blade which cuts wood and mild steel when cutting pozi joists.

there's a difference between cross cutting through a round nail and cutting the whole length of a 80mm ring shank hard nail. Also there is a risk that you could launch the nail straight out of the timber. Knowing my luck that would be just when the glass gets delivered

Great advice, mate.....How many massive cock ups would be prevented if people put their ego's to one side and "just ask" if they weren't sure!

Hi Robin, i did ask on a previous video if you have any news on your roofing square and app but you didn't answer. Any info would be appreciated mate as I'm keen to purchase one and install your app. Hope to hear back from you soon. Meanwhile, keep up the great vids. 👍👍👍

I made a lot of these in the framing shed back in the late 90's. Ours didn't have ends you could trim. All made to plan sizes but no doubt all going to new builds. Even back then the timber was cut by computer controlled saws but laid up by hand on the press so plenty of chance for human error. You only had a picture of the layout to go to and we set out the measurements by a tape on the press. Trusses were the same. Parts set out in the press boxes by tape from the drawings. More recently I have seen systems with overhead laser projectors casting lines for the exact placement. Not sure what is out there now. Tedious boring job making them back then I know that. Like I said before they just disappeared in Oz haven't seen them on a site in many years now all I beams.

Great advice Robin. The nails are usually 3.1x90mm power driven annular ring shank so pulling them out is not an option.

Robin explains so far ahead of time what to expect and what to prepare for ... almost like he knows exactly what he's doin ... and he does and has the fun wit that is the glue that keeps it together.

Good helpful video. How much of the build do you size up yourself (such as joist sizes, rafter dimensions..) and how much is figured out by someone else leaving you to get on with just building?
