This is a mock barrel so I didn't indicate it in with a bore rod ( range rod )

So you would just need to make the ? end the horse shoe part. You could even do a little mini series. Anyway hope you like my idea and hope you might give it a go sometime soon. If you buy some gauges you could also do a ? too. Anyway mate good luck with everything. Jim from the Black Country England 🇬🇧 🙂 delete this message afterwards just incase.👍

OK Gary. I finally walked out to the shop and remembered to get this for you. 16ER AG60 ASZLBYM. I had torn the label on the pack of inserts and do not have the manufacturer sorry about that. You should be able to find them. Also the tool is 5/8" so they will not work in hobby lathe smaller tooling.

i thought i knew my lathe... and now, now i dont. you got the same threading chart... the same lathe under a different name. H&F AL336. so yeah... some threads, no issue. engage anywhere. 4,16, 24... blah blah. normally i do metrics and never disengage, but yeah, sometimes i do imperial and so far theyve all been those nice ratios... notice how it has a "T" column"? and those ones have a "0"? so whats the deal with the 16 in that "T" column for the rest of them? i only noticed this as i set up for 11TPI. sure. C3, MI, Z=22 tooth, whereas most everything else is the 24... engage on 4·8. so what the hell does the 16 mean? and then theres the other point of confusion... whats the difference between say, the 5 and 6 TPI saying 4·8... and the 12, 20, 36 saying 1-8? whats the difference between a "·" and a "-"? i guess the only way to REALLY find out is to play around a bit more and make some chips... sigh. one day i might actually get to make what i want to make rather than fart-arsing around figuring out what the chinese meant when they made labels...
@Toolmaker001
@Toolmaker001 7 месяцев назад
so when it says 1-8 it's any # 1 thru 8 when it says 4 8 its only engaging on the 4 or 8. Not being in front of my lathe right now this 16 your talking about isnt coming to mind let me take a look and I'll get back to you.
@paradiselost9946
@paradiselost9946 7 месяцев назад
@@Toolmaker001 it doesnt seem to be anything but a chinese quirk. cut my 11TPI, internal and external... no issues. other than my own stuffups here and there... retract tool first sort of thing, lol. love to know what the 16 means, but so far? seems superfluous. then the 1-8 also seems superfluous as, ummm... there is nothing between 8 and 1? thats pretty well much the same as "engage anywhere" in my head... sigh... maybe it means "16 turns of the chuck" or "double the number of divisions on indicator" and i got lucky, but yeah... so far, the chart just looks like it has some rather redundant listings. now to get fancy and try some multi starts :)
@Toolmaker001
@Toolmaker001 7 месяцев назад
So I see the 16 and the 0 on the chart. I have never even given that any thought what so ever. It plays no part in any threading that I can think of.
@paradiselost9946
@paradiselost9946 7 месяцев назад
@@Toolmaker001 exactly. and now ive had a play around... meh, it must mean something, but yeah... mystery to me, mystery to you, mystery possibly even to the guys that made the thing...
@MichaelMurray-w6f
@MichaelMurray-w6f 5 месяцев назад
I saw your question to Jeff @toolmaker001 regarding these #1-8 which is #set on your indicater which are to set correct engagement for next cut on the thread. On the threading plate /indicator section at lower end (indicator plate ) there is the letter T at the top of two coloums belowthe T t four locations are numbers 0 and 16 in l/h coloum 15 and 14 in the r/h coloum these numbers refer to the gear tooth numbers of the tiny gears that fit on the bottom of the indicator spindle which is driven by your lead screw and increase/decrease roration speed of your idicator. If you unbolt the side lock screw on the indicator block and swing it up you will see the gear that is bolted on the spindle you should have one each of the other size in your parts kit to change according to the pitch and scale. I hope this helps. ( A 1236 user in Ireland)

Well, you need to get the minor and major diameters from Machinery handbook or a thread chart. This gives you the dimensions you need to turn to and finish at. You subtract the major and minor diameters and that's your depth.
