When you feed your goldfish they will digest the food and then poop. Poop is an ammonia which is toxic for your goldfish and can kill them so you want the ammonia to be detoxified.
But how?
Our nature has a way to keep the fish safe from their poop which is a good bacteria. One of the good bacteria will eat the toxic ammonia and then release NITRITE which is also toxic for fish.
So another good bacteria will eat the nitrite and will release NITRATE which is less toxic but still toxic if reach certain level. 40 ppm is the safe level and above it will be bad for your goldfish.
Nitrate is the reason why we do water change to keep the water parameter safe for your pet goldfish.
So we need to house this 2 good bacteria in our new tank. In order to keep our goldfish safe from their own poop. 😂
Doing the natural way of nitrogen cycle will take month or 2.
But we also have ways to fasten the process by adding a nitrifying bacteria or good bacteria. Product like seachem Stability and Prime or API Quick Start will help us.
