Same and I just realized my closet has been trying to speak to me that it’s dark academia but I did not even notice my aesthetic was dark academia till I looked at my closet and said oh my I am a dark academic
I found my style cottage core pop punch and bellet core Royal core And 18 century and also preppy and also French type finelly got my style but love looking at guide book
I find this aesthetic really cool, especially because it totally fits my passions, but at the same time I think like I can't dress that way, because I'm too fat. Eh.
There is no specifications for body type in any aesthetic!! Please don’t dismiss a style you are passionate about dressing for this reason. I know it can be difficult to find the confidence to wear certain clothes but the process starts by saying that you deserve to wear and look good in whatever makes you feel the happiest. 💕
Never forget some of the most iconic nude paintings featured people with visible rolls and curves. Plus sized women are well established in dark academia.
Even if you don't feel comfy in some pieces, i'm sure you find a way to dress in this style🥰 And I also think that it doesn't matter how thic or thin you are, these clothes look beautiful on everyone in my opinion :)
Love love love the video!! but i do want to point out that dark academia is an aesthetic from tumblr ! not tiktok :) no shade or anything at all. New subscriber !
I love this video! I'm trying to change my closet into this style because I really feel pretty and confident in this aesthetic. Your video is amazing, i love all of the looks, mainly the second one😍. Maybe in future you can do light academia or Parisian fashion 😘
I lean toward mostly cooler tones, but I'm in love with the tweed jacket outfit. Glad to know this aesthetic has a name and hashtags I can follow now, even though it's been around for ages.
*when you’re too young to buy cool clothes like that because you want to buy dark academia clothes that you’ll be able to wear for a while so the closest you get to this is the glasses and my school uniform*
Isame, I was venturing into my new wardrobe and researching items and different aestetics (academia didn't come up) so I eventually read about it in teh comment section and it was pretty much what I had been creating picking items I enjoyed out of different aestetics. Felt real nice. But now I'm scared for it becoming fame and mainstream.
Outfit 4. Some friends of mine have been trying out aesthetically driven outfits and I've been thinking of trying to put together a few of my own. Thanks for sharing this guide. 😇
Ooh, I forgot the essential turtleneck. Every professor in winter wears a turtleneck with a tweedy sports jacket, ideally with suede elbow patches, and wool gabardine or corduroy trousers, it’s never out of style in academia. Men’s low leather ankle boots, too.
Hey scholar, thank you so much for watching! 🖤Let me know down below which outfit was your favorite and make sure you check out my Harry Potter inspired lookbooks here ↓↓↓ (ru-vid.com/group/PLoijFlei3iVbvnqMF2UZIGYScjFB_Bf9z ) ❤️💚🧙💙💛
Woooww the 4th outfit is absolutely amazing !! Btw I'm so glad this aesthetic is now getting the recognition it deserves especially on RU-vid since there wasn't too much content before and my whole heart and soul are just here for it. Thank you!
You named some other great elements that I forgot: red accents, boots, knee socks, etc. I would also add contrast piping, leather or suede, or other trim, especially on jackets.
It's like classic goth/emo crossed with Halloween and autumn, H.P. Lovecraft, Evelyn Waugh and C.S. Lewis, plus Oxford University around the time of WWI, Dead Poets Society and Harry Potter. Oddly enough, this is EXACTLY how I used to dress when I was at college in the late 1980s. Emo Halloweeny Hermione Granger at Oxford, studying classic literature and witchcraft. That was me.
Oh my goood, you have the exact same hair colour as I do! I was always struggling to combine it with the 'conservative' outfits, your video is so nice to watch!
My elements of this style: pleated midi skirts or trousers, if worn, tailored, but soft dresses, button-front shirts or blouses in white and light colors, vests of all kinds, pullover V and crewneck and cardigan sweaters, blazers, traditional lng wool coats and trench-coats, genuine leather loafers or oxfords or low-heel pumps, belts and structured bags and vintage briefcases, ties and scarves (I like soft silk or cashmere ones best, not men’s styles). Jewelry should be simple, classic, and dainty gold pieces, with small gemstones or pearls. Fabrics include poplin/broadcloth/crepe de chine shirting, check, plaid, tweed and solid-color wool melton and garbardines. Colors: white or light-colored or pastel shirting, black, navy, browns from beige to deep, all gray, olive/khaki or medium to dark greens, burgundy/maroon, and rust, often in plaid. Vintage jewelry and accessories are great. No denim, linen instead when warm or hot.
Love it love it! You’ve done like all my fave aesthetics! I’d love to see a vid of you staying outfits you’d wear if you were living in your face tv shows! I think you could rock it 🖤🖤🖤
December 10th, 2020 Dark academia looks so pretty :)) I wanna wear this maybe in college and I hope I live near thrift stores too !! It gives me major harry potter school vibes for some reason too
My aesthetic is: Cozy Witch/Dark Academia + Fandom touches. I also have touches of Victorian Gothic. I guess I'm still learning exactly what I prefer because sometimes I prefer to be comfy so leggings and converse are a huge part of my closet. But, especially in autumn I am hardcore on cozy Witch + dark Academia.
Hiya, these are some wonderful outfits and I enjoyed your explanation of the Dark Academia aesthetic~ Thanks for the video and outfit ideas! ♡ My favorite outfits have to be 3 & 4, they're very aesthetically pleasing!
Ok but I love this aesthetic it’s amazing it fits me very well but it’s a bit hard to find clothes for me that fit the aesthetic since I’m 11 I have to find clothes that fit me😅 but I’m totally going to slowly start buying clothes that fit the aesthetic
Could you slow down a bit and eliminate the loud noises between image changes, thanks. Just a note, the 50s were the first era when college education for all women became “normal” and expected, from just an earlier trickle in the late 19th C, so I think 50s fashion is an atheistic from which elements can be included in this style.
I thought I was supposed to be in a soft girl aesthetic bc I’m nice, then so thought I was meant for the rock/emo type bc I like rock music, then I thought I was meant for retro aesthetic bc I like retro stuff. But I then realized I am a mixture of all these things. So now I’m just a nice-dark academia-bi-rockstar lol. Btw I love the Harry Potter series I myself am a slytherin and love this aesthetic
I think that dark and light academia are essentially the same aesthetic with the only difference being the color scheme. So, I don’t think it necessarily qualities for an entire video, but if you’re interested in dressing that way, simply replace the items I mentioned in this video with those of a lighter color palette and you should be good to go!
I was wondering what the style of trousers is, I really love dark academia fashion but find it hard to find trousers because I don't know what I'm searching for. Thank you :)
Definitely Stick with light neutral tones (whites, greys, creams) and then you can add bolder colours (wine red, dark green, navy) and patterns like plaid would fit the dark/light academia look, or lace for more cottage core ❤️
Does anyone know where to get like dress pants and skirts? I’ve been thrift in for most of the stuff but I can’t seem to find any dress pants that fit me.
I want to dress this way but I don’t know if it would look good with me. Do you know anyways to see how we’d look with a style before paying a bunch of money for it?
You can always try on clothes when you're at the store, just pick the ones you think fit both within the aesthetic and your personal style! I also have a video coming up about budget looks for different aesthetics so if you subscribe and click the notification bell, you will be first to know! ;)
I feel like this is how I should dress because I already have the glasses and a few pieces, but I love pink and pastel colors too much. Is there such a thing as Light Academia? :P
Does anyone know any stores at the mall where I could find clothes like this? Please answer I’ve been searching all over google but have found nothing. Haha I just want to know so that when I go I’m not gonna be searching every store :) Thanks!
The skirt appears more blue on camera but it is mainly green. I’ve done both Ravenclaw and Slytherin lookbooks if you’re interested ru-vid.com/group/PLoijFlei3iVbvnqMF2UZIGYScjFB_Bf9z
