A short video showing how Stratton used different designs on the bases of their vintage powder compacts. Check out our new and improved video for 2020 here: • How To Date Your Strat...
Thanks so much! Just made a beaded evening bag for my 52 year old daughter for her birthday (in Oklahoma USA) and I wanted to include a compact in it. I bought one on eBay and just found out from you that it is from the time period when she was born. 1965. She will be thrilled! A happy accident in choosing this compact!
I just bought a vintage Stratton compact at a thrift store. It has a self-opening loose powder mechanism, Star embossing on the bottom and a beautiful pink and blue floral enamel transfer pattern on the top. I just adore it and it feels like a true treasure. The original puff is still inside- almost as thin as paper. Someone really loved it at before I did.
VERY helpful. I see I just purchased a 90s pill box and contact lens case. The most beautiful contact lens case I've ever seen. Came in white and gold boxes. So helpful. Thanks for the video.
I randomly found a stratton compact and bought it without knowing anything about them. I'm glad I found your video because I now think mine is from the 1930s!! Super exciting
Thank you very much. Your video has helped me date a Stratton Compact my mother owned - it has the stars on the back (no brand). A lovely item and now I know more about it thanks to you.
Very helpful, many thanks - I picked up a 1970s compact at an Antiques Fair today and knew nothing about them, aside from knowing people collect Statton Compacts - learning all the time -
This is great info, I just bought a Stratton compact off ebay as a birthday treat to myself and it looks to be from the 70's-80's based on the backing. My first ever, I hope to get a few more later.
Thank you for this, I was wondering how old my two Strattons were, and from this it looks like I have one from the 30s and one from the 50s. Very interesting!
I've been searching for a few days about how to date my Stratton black enamel? powder compact. I don't see it on your video, or on any of the Stratton websites. It has a marcasite butterfly on top and has a mirror inside, stripes on the back. Thanks for your help!
Extremely helpful video! Thanks for sharing. I have a question. I recently acquired a Stratton travel brush, and was wondering about the rarity/years they were produced? I can't seem to find very much information about them.
Please, please, please refilm this. The info was great but the images were very blurry. I want to see what you are talking about. How do you keep/display your compacts?
I have a 1959 Stratton musical compact. Given to me for my 21st Birthday. Oblong in shape, still in its black pocket cover and I still have the blue box in which it all fits and the tune t he compact plays is Anniversary Waltz. Eileen Windmill
Do you know how long Stratton produced the spiral design back without writing? I know you said from the 1930's but was it only used during the 30's? When did this pattern go out of production? Any information you could give would be helpful.

A lucky find for me! I picked up a vintage 1950s/60's Queen shaped Mother of Pearl a few months back. I think I paid $10 Canadian for it. Where can I buy replacement powder for it? Thanks for a very informative video.
I have a Stratton compact which I purchased before 1980 with 7 small pink roses on the front..white background and a double thin red line all round edge...Says "stratton" on rear with small "waffle" pattern. I also have one with black enamal front with 3 gold crowns..back is concentric circles.Could you give me some value..they are in almost mint condition.
I have a Stratton compact for loose powder, with stars all over the back. I am interested in the designer and there are two initials on the design- AG or possibly HG. Can you tell me more about that please. The image is of a single swan, surrounded by red blossom or fruit on a black background. The swan is outlined with a very thin gold line. Many thanks.
My mother left us a compact which has the core spiral back and a European village scene front it has made in England stamped in the case from your video I assume it is from the 1930's, how can I verify? thanks.
This is such a fantastic video, really informative. I have a beautiful luxury empress lipstick compact similar to that in the video with its original puff... And unusual shell shaped compact from the 70/80s with a lip view in a similar vain... I've another couple which are maybe late 80/90s which I use as don't feel so precious about them. Does anyone know where I could get a new sifter? I'm unsure I should use the ones I have which are original! Thanks for this!
Hi Dani, I found your video very helpful and interesting. Can I just ask you a quick question - my Stratton compact has Stratton written on reverse in cursive writing (and no reference to Made in England). Front is floral. Reverse is woven. How can I date it? Many thanks
i recently came accross a what i think is a true vintage stratton double miror compact i found an image on google but dont know where to find more info on it
I have to agree Suzy. The video was shot by Eleanor when she was 16 years old and it is far from 'professional' but lots of people have found it helpful especially when they are trying to avoid buying items that are not authentic.
