Thank you for the excellent videos. I'm wondering the name of the rose you are pruning and if it's available on your website? It is a beautiful color and shape.

I just planted a grandiflora gold medal rose for my wife. I’m new to this. Your video is great. I just wanted to know if it’s ok to dead head all summer ?

Please make one about taking care of roses in the heat of summer. I love all my roses from heirloom roses!!!!!

Good question! For the heat, it is essential to keep up with watering. Here is a link to Adrian, our assistant grower, explaining how to tell when your rose needs water in one of his recent thoughtful Thursdays on our Instagram page. instagram.com/reel/CfKRKISjqmZ/?

I thought the thinking today is that it's ok to cut back to 3-leaf steams instead of 5-leaf. Not true? or does it depend on the type of rose? thanks for addressing my question
@heirloomroses
@heirloomroses 2 года назад
It de[pends on the plant. You can cut at the first healthy three-leaf leaflet if there is no healthy five-leaf leaflet.

How do I dead head a very young rose? We just planted ours a little over a month ago, and even though they have lots of blooms, the bushes are still small. How far do I dead head them?
@heirloomroses
@heirloomroses Год назад
Good question! For a young rose, you want to remove the least amount of healthy leaflets so you can remove the spent bloom right above the first healthy leaflet.

@@heirloomroses Thank you!! I have 9 young rose plants, purchased from you, and I have my fingers crossed that I do everything right to make them grow beautifully!

Is this the same for climbing roses? I don’t think I see 5 leaf’s together

Prune any flowered shoots back by two thirds on climbers I think.
@heirloomroses
@heirloomroses 2 года назад
Good question! It is similar, but if you don't have five leaflets, you can go to the first healthy three leaflets and prune the spent bloom off right above it. I hope this helps!

Does it matter if it is a newly planted rose?
@heirloomroses
@heirloomroses Год назад
You can still deadhead a newly planted rose. If there are no five-leaf leaflets because it is a young plant, you can cut it to a three-leaf leaflet. I do recommend you cut at an angle to keep the water off that exposed part of the plant.
