@@JustSomeGuy69420 Exactly. This is gold. So long as it isn't overly dangerous or obviously bad, "perfect" form is a myth. You can always get better, but having something that look slike "perfect" form requires you to have stuff like perfect leverages, limb lengths, etc.
Deadlift is an exercise where we all have different forms. Yes, some stuffs are basics that should be followed, but every deadlift looks different. Depends on your arm length, torso length, femur length and so on.
Eddie is the best kind of cocky. He doesn't have a super big ego to put people down. He just gives you the real and tells how it is. He earned the right to remind us all of his greatness.
The only thing bigger than his deadlift record is the ego that arrives in the room 30 seconds before him. If you’re gonna compete to be the worlds strongest man you need an ego like that to keep you pushing - to be the absolute alpha in any pack and I rate him for it because a lot of wasters have a hollow ego and a lot of BS. He’s the real deal. But man… he’s dripping with pure ego literally all the time.
@@early20s18 I just read an article that said he got that scar as a young man fighting a group of Asian's. The article also said Eddie claimed to be racist.
18:50 "I don't want to be that GrandDad down the pub, in 20 years time, who said "Oh you know I could have won the World's Strongest Man if I had of quit my job and trained"... I want to be the man that said "I did that, I acheived it, I worked hard and look at me now"... I want to be that guy." Serious motivation here my friend ty
I’ve just incorporated this technique into my deadlift today and no joke my lower back / right glute pain went. Felt smooth and let me hit a PB. Added 20kg onto my deadlift
@@Fnidner do exactly as Eddie says here he knows what he’s talking about. The biggest mistake people make and I have been guilty of this is dropping the hips way too low or keeping them way to high. The moment your shins come in contact with the bar, should be your hip position. Do not move the hips after this has occurred and do not move the barbell after establishing the foot position under the bar(about 1 inch away from shins for most people)
eddie: "hey mate can you come here for a minute?" random guy: "whats up? need a spot?" eddie: "no, i cant fit anymore plates on here so im going to use you"
I can just picture Brian Shaw, Robert Oberst, Big Z and Felix dressed in their deadlift suits, chalked up when the funeral director says.., "Competitors ready!".
Weightlifter of >10 years. Getting a little stuck progressing to next level on deadlift (hit 282.5kg, aiming for 300) only thought of 1 person for advice and Eddie, you did not disappoint! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Will take these points to my next session. Thanks so much. You're an inspiration to many!
@Sascha Anthöfer Got 290, Had to change priority to cycling (racing) for the summer, so definitely got a carrot to go after when I get back to it! Appreciate the question!
Added 5kg to my deadlift after watching this video. Not a huge increase but by slightly moving my feet & hands it surprised me what a difference it made. Hell of a long way to go to get The Beast's level. Many thanks for the video Eddie
Just want to say this video really helped me with my deadlift, was explained in a way that helped me understand and actually put into practice in the gym. Tried Eddie's method and pointers the next day watching this and made such a difference. Not sure if Eddie reads these but thank you, love all the videos, great guy.
@Paul Kersey Say what you will, but there wasn't another man on the planet who could do what he did at the time that he did it. Perhaps in my lifetime someone will pull it strapless.
Paul Kersey I don’t think human hands are capable of holding 500 kg without straps. Straps don’t make the lift any less impressive, it’s about strength not grip
New World Record ‘Greatest Teacher’! Eddie very nice instruction. Love how you share and support the community. Revealing this side of you has really positively impacted my deep respect for you. Thank you sir!
Thanks Eddie, every so often I need to see this video to put my form back where I need to be. Over the course of the last year I have been feeling my dead lift get harder and harder off the floor. And come to find out I strayed way far forward and it completely removed my hamstring and glute activation. Revisiting this video really helps even for us that have been doing it for years
Just from watching this video and adjusting my set up on deadlift and how to do it I’ve suddenly jumped 20kg to my 5x5 deadlift since last week! You are a legend and love your videos
This is one of the best videos on deadlifting ever. He understands all the sticking points of us lifters that can’t find that sweet spot for the deadlift
..he literally said nothing about sticking points, in fact the second most common sticking point is at lockout, which he said to avoid training most of the time
tfw no u bar placement. Back position. Using the rack as a starting point to find optimal position. All sticking points that make the deadlift confusing to many people
Bro thanks for the info , I’m a 56 year old Man that decided to start training for powerlifting several months ago! You info is greatly appreciated my friend I have your videos saved and go through them constantly !! I have my first!! power lifting comp. I’m March I know I’ll do well because of your help .Keep it up Beast mode💪🏽✌🏽🇺🇸
@@ericshuty2564 you say picking something off the ground like your talking about a bag of cement not 500kg, that ent normal hence him being the first person in the world to do it
@@Fnidner made sure the bar was in the middle of the foot and slowly lowered myself until the bar barely touched my shin...then I lifted. Before I wasn't so proper with it.
I always struggled to get in the correct position. After watching this my deadlift blew up and no lower back pain at all ! Cheers Eddy ! Power from the floor felt so much better
This is the best deadlift instructional video on the entire internet. I've watched them all and this is the one that finally fixed my deadlifting form.
I paused the video, came back to it and read your comment before continuing the video and the next sentence he said was that lmfaooo what a way to get back into the video
And that use to work 14hours a day, trained 4 hours and worked the doors 6hours and only slept 5hours all in a 24hour day. The math don't work out but that's only in a normal person's brain
@@lolathescruff I bet you couldn't do a 10 hr day, 'work the doors till 3am' and then get up at 5 am to train even once. Let alone for 10 yrs. 501kg dead lift would be easier...
Like who would argue with him? "I got PhD in sport science, and your advise is bad!" Mr. hall: "but did you deadlift 500kg." "No?!" Mr. Hall: "then shut the F up and take notes!!"
Book smart vs street smart 101. I know plenty of people with degrees and they still don’t know shit. I would listen to Hall any day of the week over some skinny ass with a degree!
@Gore4ever FulciLives Yea. Makes PERFECT sense, to listen to someone without any criticism who obviously belong to the 0.01% of the population in the world when it comes to genetics and is juiced up on maximum amount of gear. I do not see any flaws in your logic.
What he said about the 2nd rep being easier is such a good point. After the first pull, you drop the bar straight down which automatically puts you in the right position. It's great to hear someone actually explain it cause I've always known that to be true but never understood why.
Because you’re working against gravity and gravity wants to suck it straight back down to the center of the earth. The earth pulls on you and the barbell in a straight line to the center of the earth. Plus it’s really difficult to pick up a heavy load out away from your body.
Man I did exactly what you said with the starting position and hand placement. I didn’t have any knee pain or back pain at all, I’m so glad I came across your video.👍🏾
When this guy speaks, I listen. His advice is gold. My main take aways to improve my gym time are: -Always end on a high weight rather than dropping down to a lower weight, highest weight set last. -Target 10 reps for "small muscle" exercises (Lats, Biceps, Triceps, etc.) -Proper deadlift technique.
Was that 3 sets of Deadlift at 260kg (after warming up with a lighter progression) and then 2-3 sets of two super set upper back movements? I think that's what he said right?
Hi Eddie, Great video! After watching the video a few times, I definitely noticed my deadlift increasing, and, that I thankfully didn't feel my lower back! Big thank you for doing the video! Cheers, Billy
I've watched that video several times. I think part of the problem he had the head rush was because they / he held the weight up for such a long time. I'm glad he hasn't given them up. I still deadlift 405 for 6-8 reps 3 days a week at my current body weight of 175. It's a nice comfortable weight. Plust i work ten hour shifts. So my 3 day all in one day power lifting workouts work well for me this way. I borrowed it from reg park.
Its so cool listening to the best explain how they do things. Some do it better than others, Hall just so happens to have a really good way of explaining.
I have started my pilgrimage from Finland to the United Kingdom. I will walk all the way to the UK and touch that deadlift bar. Then I will turn Super Saiyan. Wish me luck.
Eddie: I want to say thank you for all the videos and inviting us into your training sessions and your life I cannot say how much my lifts have improved from following your advice Thank you
yeah he is a funny guy and always has a banter to him but my man has DEEP knowledge of lifting, I mean fcking scientific level. I get out of these video a good percentage smarter than before. Always.
He's really not into the science at all, just the experiential aspect of things. He may have things 'down to the science' for himself. Some stuff is bro-science, but it's obviously not of much consequence for him. Always do your own research too.
Excellent advice. You know it MUST work too. As 500kg deadlift without your back imploding is proof itself. It's like watching someone break a grand prix record in F1. He MUST be excellent and form and choices perfect.
Eddie, what was your deadlift training programme like preparing for the 500kg? Did you deadlift daily, weekly? Did you do different deadlift variations etc? I think this would be a great video to go in-depth about.
