According to statistics, toxic boss never change after confromting them. Toxic boss will not admit they are toxic. They will just blame you for them acting that way.
Had this happen to me at my previous IT job (also happened to colleagues on my team from the same person) the last team meeting we had (without the manager) pretty much had everyone say they was unhappy etc including myself. After this, the manager had less interactions with the team but in my eyes the damage had been done and at the end of the day they're still the manager. I left for another job as I refuse to provide my time as a service for an manager who's not going to treat me with respect (the new job fell through as it was even worse sadly so I'm out of work) but wish relatives would understand my pov and situation better instead of telling me I should've stayed in both jobs. I work to provide a service not to be bullied by incompetent management and let my mental health decline.
This is correct. You will know if the boss is targeting you only. A few employees told me that my boss was very nice. Yes... he was nice to them, but nasty to me. Toxic bosses are two-faced.

I'd say follow all these steps to buy you time while looking for another job. There are lots of terrible bosses out there but also many that aren't terrible. Life is too short and you don't want your career and health to suffer.
The first step in dealing with a bad boss is finding a new role inside or outside the company. Don't bend backwards and try to make the guy improve his attitude. He won't. Do your job properly and if he's an asshole, change companies and sayonara.
I always lived by this saying: "water off a ducks back". If the boss makes it unbearable, find another job. Everyone is hiring and I guarantee they will pay you more.
I've been in a situation where I had a pretty good boss in the start, but got crappy in the end. That is not always easy to deal with. But once he tried to change my title, I started to stop caring. Even more so when he posted my job later. I do not what was going to happen next, but I put in my 2 weeks and they let me go (no surprise there). Yeah, for people that had good bosses, when this happens, it can become hard.
THIS! A good friend of mine had a toxic boss - things were sunshine and roses until yearly review, where the boss would suddenly move all the goalposts and criticism them for things that weren't even a part of their KPIs. My friend was given a warning for something that their boss had never asked for or addressed with them before. Even the HR manager said "... but this person didn't do anything wrong. You're trying to give them a warning for something you've never warned them about before!" Rather than try to work it out with HR, they updated their resume and started applying for other jobs. Just recently got hired at a much better company, healthier management, better team support with higher pay.
Thing is many jobs you have to deal with many workers or a boss sometimes and some dont like dealing with them in person. I much prefer a environment where there is not many ppl around. I been trying to apply at many remote jobs and no luck.
He is absolutely right. Do not vent to your boss nor coworkers as they will use against you. He is also right as do not trust folks in the office. They all have an agenda.

I disagree. If you have a shitty boss, then you don't need your boss to have a different attitude. You need a different boss. And that applies to any other relationship. It is really as simple as that, the very idea of you "fixing" other people is frankly megalomaniac and stupid.

My last boss was awful. Patronizing, disrespectful, she overworked me like CRAZY (the first two weeks of this year I literally didn’t get a break. Not evenings, not weekends. I was being worked that hard), she was big on “self care” so would often show up hours late or not at all, would leave for lunch, and would leave early, but I was never allowed to do anything even like that. Anyway, she ended up firing me because I hung up on her while she was yelling at me for something that was her own fault. I have a better job now.
I had a bad boss years ago who screamed at me for following her directions and tried to take me to task for something I could not fulfill. She was very good at fingerpointing without knowing what she was talking about. I got the last laugh on her, though. She ended up retiring, and I showed up to her party only to get something to eat and to see that she actually was leaving. A few months later, due to us still being in the Great Recession and dealing with austerity measures, my Department gave cash bonuses to entice employees who had reached the retirement threshold to retire. So, she missed out on a nice pile of cash. Had she held on for just a few more months and gotten the incentive, that's money she could have used for investments, seed money for a new business, paying off debts, purchasing a new vehicle, travel, you name it. Seeing the agony on her face after all the s--- she put me and others through gave me a moment of pleasure. I have had both good and bad bosses through my career. I love what I do, so I just let it be and focus on my work.
Sadly, this topic is another hard lesson that is learned after the fact. The part about venting to a coworker about how your boss is treating you is really important. You just have to filter everything you say to coworkers because they don't have your best interests even if you consider them a friend. Things will always get back to your boss.
Time to go. Dealing with a narcissist that has kept me at part time over the last 9 years while he promoted people off the street. Routinely tries to gaslight us with the old, “ Bigwigs are coming, Bigwigs are coming! Everyone panic!” Schtick to prove he can work us to death anytime he wants without intervention from his superiors. I had a total of three toxic bosses at my last two jobs. I was privileged to watch them leave before I did, but it took some years. Boss #1 vanished in the night after a sensitive "For Your Eyes Only" HR investigation. Boss #2 was terminated but she refused to leave. She told them to process her retirement, with full retirement benefits. Boss #3's contract was not renewed. What Boss#3 did to me, Karma got him in the end, via his supervisor. Hallelujah! Boss #3 affected my physical and mental health drastically.
I've had to learn to do this with my current boss.... She is very reactive and tends to supervise with a spirit of intimidation and control. I have learned to keep my verbal interactions minimum and professional. I exhaust all other options before going to her. I do my work and stay consistent. I communicate through email 99% of the time. I have had to learn that her actions are a reflection of of her and not me. I become confident about my job along with remaining humble to learn more.... This way she can't lessen my value... Because I know my value. Most of all...... PRAYER is a must. Mostly for myself.
If you think other people care about you in the workplace, you are mistaken. They will forget you as soon as you or they leave. Also its demeaning to put up with boss nonsense. No free work. Don't quietly accept and keep your head down. Life is too short. I do agree that if you like the company, look inside that company, but be aware sometimes internal moves won't happen because no one wants to be seen as poaching. Also most will ask the boss' permission first. I've had them say no, then retaliate on my wanting to leave. The best advise is to do the best you can at your job while looking for a new one.
Yes! The current supervisor has to approve the transfer. That will be opportunity to put the nail in the coffin, and get you terminated. This happened to an employee who sat in my area. He was a very talented graphic artist, and he applied for a job in the animation division. His supervisor put an end to his career path, and fired him.
@@shqa574 I know the feeling when having to deal with quote on quote difficult people with many kinds of attitude that just wants to make your job harder than it already is and sometimes one of those people ends up making the job itself frustrating not because of the job itself but the people you ware working with that don't understand the process of the work and sometimes does not appreciate the effort put into it and this is coming from a graphic designers. Well most people in the creative industry face those kind of things and sometimes is undervalued for their efforts. I may not be an a animator but i can say in the field of animation it is not an easy job to do if you seen some documentary videos on how much time and people took to produce good quality animation.
Bad bosses are life stealers. They are basically unchangeable. They have their mindsets similar to that of psychopaths. Just a big shame to come across such a pityful human being, if there was such one.
My problem with this show how Hr reps are always trying to convince workers to compromise and work with narcassitic or sociopathic boss and enduring the abuse instead of firing the bosses. Bad boss is 99% usually the case of a narcassitic boss. Maybe more investigations and taking it more seriously when employees complain about these issues could help a d retain good employees or better personality test before hiring. HR reps act like robots. 0 emotion, very black and white, un helpful. Narcassit and sociopaths should be banned from work places as bosses.

It's like the employees are expected to just shut up and take whatever treatment their boss gives them without reprimand or intervention on the boss's side. Yes, you are right, for example, the advice to not put down your boss when quitting your job or not complaining too much. So this type of bad manager can freely go up to the career ladder. So narcissists, sociopath, psychopath, fury, and bootlicker bosses are at the top, except sometimes the founders who are more likely to be creative and nice persons. But he is completely right you can't change the world you have to adapt and fit
HR has zero power towards managers. If the manager is high enough the food chain of a company, he will get away even with doing illegal and unethical stuff. It usually takes a former or current employee to blow the whistle and make the shit explode and even then, they might do everything in their power to mitigate, diminish or simply swipe it under the rug.
I think he's got this in the wrong order. You should look for another job, then try all of these things. If for example you talk to your boss and work out the issues you have, you can just turn down an offer for another job. All of the things he suggests here are 10x less stressful when you know that you have something else if they don't work out.
You should not use the job offer as incentive to change the toxic boss. The only salvation to staying in the hell pit is if the toxic boss is terminated on demand.

My father is full Native American ,but I’m white . My supervisor didn’t believe me and said “ you look pretty white to me.” I tried unsuccessfully mentioning about tribal culture and no one believed me until I showed my tribal card.
My last in person boss was AWFUL. He used to vent *every* problem in his marriage to me the second I got to work. And then if I skipped a happy hour to go yo the gym, I would come back and find ten texts asking me why I’m not a team player. Now I work completely remote. And my new boss is very laid back. I’ve also never met them nor will I and it’s a perfect situation for me after the toxicity I’ve dealt with.

Theorically, if the boss is paid $150K, and you are paid $40K, it is very unlikely you will win the war. My company had an annual Harassment seminar that was acknowledged and signed by every employee electronically. That did not deter the boss from assassinating me. Ironically, the first week I was hired, I found out that the company had a very bad morale problem. They took the entire company (...200 employees) on a weekend retreat a week into the job. Six months later, there was a corporation wide employee seminar/survey that was formulated around bad morale and harassment. Several years later, I was targeted for extinction.
this works in a Western setting where communication is still encouraged and rewarded but in East Asia, if you ask your boss what he is expecting from you, he will like you even less because they believe you should find the answer alone and that is the reason why you have been hired. Believe me, I talk from experience ^^
The last one is the best: find another job. I just moved from an incompetent boss and got a much better salary, better company and better expectations. Just live the person behind you and do not let the person mess with your professionalism. Some stupid companies do not get rid of incompetent bosses and they will pay the price.
Unless you have a work "Contract" signed by you and your employer, you are basically a "Hired Mercenary" to do the job and get paid. You can be let go at any time and quit anytime. I've been saying this for many past years.
No contract will protect you from being let go at any time. Unless you're part of some union and a collective contract, but that's a totally different story.

Trying to find another job in the company may backfire. The job transfer has to be approved by your current supervisor. If the supervisor is trying to make you quit, he(...she) will give HR a negative assessment, and that will start the termination ball rolling, so to speak.
I am now expected to not only do my job, but also that of a colleague who is senior to me & on paternity leave until Jan. I’m underwater & my manager is constantly taking off on vacation. Never around. When he is working, he won’t provide me with constructive feedback, direction or any kind of mentorship. I’m quite literally on my own & failing. My boss will tell me things after the fact as if I should’ve known them. I can’t read his mind. Wtf. No win situation & I’m borderline burnt out. Started job hunting.

It’s clear they are not good leaders, but somehow they get high ranking positions and then treat everyone so terrible the employees leave, but it should be the bad boss getting forced out to leave. If you are in a toxic work environment you need a masterful, prompt, and elevated exit - NOT static coordinates and dodgy holding patterns. I've seen red carpets and silver platters get pissed on by bad bosses. The true face of most employment is basically an art of war. The only thing that can fix the ugliness is a new scenery!
So I'm gonna be moving to a different state sometime this month and my last day is Sunday on the 4th, but I'm considering not going back to my job tomorrow, because my manager has already replaced my positions with another co-worker. I'm not one to just quit, but this manager is a horrible manager. I've been working for this company for about a year or so, and this manager is probably the worst manager I've worked for at this company. Shes full of drama and has already made several people quit and she's also fired some people as well. Recently she's been getting onto me for doing the job the way I was trained to do it saying "whoever trained you didn't do it the right way etc.." so she's telling me that the four different managers who have trained me for my position, have worked there for YEARS have all trained me wrong (not to mention one of the managers is the district manager 🤔) I know some people are gonna tell me to take it to the manager above her, but it won't do anything. It's like I said I'm not one to bail out of a bad situation, but she is just unbearable to deal with. My anxiety has been going haywire because I've been biting my tongue not to tell her off on some things that I know she'll get in trouble for. She hasn't just micromanaged me either she's been doing it to people who have worked there for 10+ years. Her attitude is horrible she's yelled at other workers in front of everyone several times, I'm sure even customers have heard her out in the lobby. I've seriously questioned whether or not she has a mood disorder or something because she can go 0 to 100 at the snap of a finger.
I had a truly bad boss some years back. And I mean BAD. Took all the maturity I could muster to leave on good terms. The key is getting out of there though.
Unfortunately some toxic bosses have a very influential position within a business due to their hard results - as the good book says 'money answereth all things' - and even the most ethical companies are hard pressed to let go a manager who makes them money in a highly competitive marketplace. In situations like this, one's best bet is to do these three things: 1) Seek a departmental transfer if your skills are internally transferable, 2) seek a new job and 3) develop an additional stream or two of income so you have options.
My boss actively worked to get her supervisor removed from our department by manipulation and abuse. She also is emotionally incontinent and sometimes cries and alternatively screams uncontrollably at her employees; she's been sent home twice without pay for screaming at people.
A lot of these recommendations seem to assume a rational, good faith actor. If your boss is a narcissist, many are, then those expectations may not hold and things like reasoning with them, or asking for their expectations may just run you in circles. Having healthy boundaries, especially from day one, can insulate you from some of these bad behaviors, but other times its really a matter of document, insulate, or separate.

I started a new job recently after being in a very toxic work environment for 4 years. The first 3 years my direct boss wasnt toxic but the last year was and the ceo's always made the culture toxic and the way i was let go im pursuing a claim with the eeoc for the first time in my life. Anyway, with my new job its very VERY hard not to vent to co-workers about the ptsd from my last job when my current boss triggers me. Im struggling but I'm trying to not vent anymore because i know it isnt good.
I find documenting my boss's behavior for a month or 2 & then waiting for a bigger accident gives me fuel to demand change when bringing it up to their boss or defend myself when with HR dealing with a he said - she said.
This year 2021 I dodged the horrible, fake, uptight Manageress. The last one was an ice Queen, never took a break, always in a meeting. She sneakily called Agency behind my back to day she didn't think I was a good fit. I was just thinking NO LOVE you are not a good fit for me.
Towards the end of my job under a bad boss, my boss and I began meeting regularly about department policy, upcoming changes, and so on. However, my boss was well known for misrepresentation of previous meetings. So the department secretary attended and took notes. It put my bad boss on notice that te could no longer misrepresent conversations. There was a witness and in a proceeding, formal or informal, legal or not-so-legal, internal or external, we both knew the witness would be called to testify or be disposed. I ended up leaving that job after a few months because it was untenable. The environment was so toxic I began mirandizing myself as I entered the organization’s property. I later learned my boss did have a spy on the staff. The spy ended out being driven out, too, several years after I was - by the same bad boss. Other staff I ran into over the years since then have told me that they could see what was happening to me but didn’t think it would happen to them. Until it did. Until the bad boss considered you a threat, you were okey. But no one ever figured out what constitutes a threat. And that was the worst thing about the bad boss.
It’s funny how much your gut instinct can save you even if you don’t know these things outright. Unfortunately in my last job I had the distinct misfortune of having not one, but two bad supervisors and distant and unhelpful managers. I should have known from my first day when I got yelled at in front of colleagues over, I kid you not, my facial expression. I should have known during the first five weeks that things weren’t going to go well when the other supervisor broke the law by effectively imprisoning me and another newbie at work and I had to find someone with appropriate security clearance to walk me out of the secure zone (pending my own security clearance.) But when something else happened that also broke the law and exposed me to potential danger then that’s when I knew I needed a contingency plan. So I discreetly made enquiries with another company that did the same work for other companies and discovered that they would be happy to have me. And thank goodness I did because the strain finally broke and I’m getting moved to the other company soon.
I used to work in higher education administration and my boss there was a lovely but he was lazy, which caused two big problems. Firstly, he would never take responsibility for anything. Secondly, if he could get rid of work by farming it out to another department, he would do exactly that. He didn't seem to realise that if people don't use your services, you don't have a job.
I had a bad boss who obviously hated me but I never could figure out why,I wound up telling him to fu@# off & I quit without giving any notice, I never had trouble finding another job, as a LTL big rig driver employers seem to care more about qualifications, driving and safety record than opinions of former @holes.
I had only 2 decent bosses in the 7 jobs I've had, and those 2 were only part time jobs. The last boss I had (a huge corporate company) yelled and swore and micromanaged me, and I was just the front desk secretary. It was a lot of inappropriate stuff that I can't write or else my comment would be a novel. Only a few months into the job, I began exploring options for other departments and was refused. I was told to just hang in there. When pandemic shutdowns moved our office further away, I had to quit because I didn't have transportation to the new location and the company didn't allow me to work at home. Anyway -- Do you have any advice for those of us who have dealt with chronic bad bosses? I'm quite reluctant to take any job because I'm scared of getting into another bad situation. My passion is writing, and I have some things completed, but in reality that won't pay the bills. I'm kinda stuck in secretary limbo just for money. I'm deep in this boat. What is it with bosses? My last one tried to force me to meet up during a lockdown. The one before that would literally yell and bully every moment they were in the office, death threats and all. The one before that pulled me aside to tell me they just weren't going to pay me. I have no motivation to get work because I don't know what a healthy workplace is like. I'm extremely good at getting work, I've even taught it as part of a job, but I've never been in a workplace where I wasn't in danger.
Your writing will pay the bills! Also teaching others the skill you have can pay the bills whether in person or through online courses. Research copywriting opportunities. Resume writing. Just to share some ideas! Don't stay discouraged 🙂
One thing I’ve found is that bad, toxic, micromanager, power trip bosses prey on those who show fear, timid ness, etc. Be confident and look them in the eye and speak assertively as well. Starting at the interview stage so that they read your personality. And always always let them know immediately after an incident- that it was inappropriate and you don’t tolerate disrespect. We literally have to stand up and advocate for ourselves!! And maintain our dignity and self respect!!
I've been to the same situation. I think the way to get out of the toxic cycle is to ensure you don't accept a crappy job. The good part about it is that bad bosses give themselves away either at the interview or first few weeks. Your job is to recognize toxicity and leave immediately (or start actively looking for another job). It's also good to check with yourself how do you feel about the job ad, about the phone conversation arranging the interview, about the interview, and the interviewer. Notice if something doesn't feel right and give it some thought. Be honest with yourself. Make a list for yourself as to what you are looking in the job and see if the job matches it. Also know what exactly you will not stand for.
In a way I don't agree with the "don't vent to coworkers" concept. Because this is how abusive behavior continues to exist. It's why we had the metoo movement. I think this is all good advice except for that part. If you'll think about the concept of Glassdoor, you'll see that airing out the dirty laundry has actually been very successful. It's kind of like Rate My Professors. It provides a level of accountability. Everyone should be accountable. If a "boss" is incapable of explaining expectations and managing availability of talent, they probably don't have the necessary skills to perform. In other words we want to see leadership speak from a position of expert power not legitimate power.
to be honest no respect to the channel, but life is too short to work unpaid overtime on salary while also dealing with a terrible boss. if a boss is giving you trouble, you either try to friend his boss and out him or you move to another company. people don't change specially for an underling. because there is no loyalty from company to employee and between employee to employee.
Bosses expect loyalty from their underlings, but employees are not to expect the same in return. I had many jobs where I was treated like a warm body and that was it.

@@PrinceIro925 yeah i feel you happened at a job i joined right after being laid off during the start of pandemic. the first red flag was a list of duties 5 pages long. i figured its a small company and they had multiple duties at various times. turned out it was all duties at all times. they didn't have my computer ready for over a month. and they did my job manually on pen and paper. and when they finally brought it in on the last day it was a desktop. i was like wtf. and then they give me ton of work on last day and work me through my lunch and then hand me my notice 15min after work hours. and they got offended i rushed out the door. they tried to ask my issues. i told them i was already looking for something else because they were in the Stone ages and i was not gonna work more than 40h. im not a slave. if i had any other job i wouldn't have worked there.
@@asadb1990 Same the work load was heavy, on top of that the site didnt have a tech to do the work for nearly 4 months so things were pilling up. With no tech onsite do to the pandemic the tasks and the tickets pilled up. When I finally started and was allowed on site I had to sort through the mess my predacessor left me, and juggle new tasks as they came in. I was working solo for 10 months before they hired a helper for me. Which later turned into being my replacement. I was given a Pip with no evidence or plan for improvement. Not even a week later I was terminated. Not given a reason why, my only theory was my pip was me signing my own pink slip.
I turned in my resignation after only 5 weeks in my new position. It just wasn't the right fit for me but I really wanted to stay at the company (it's a very large corporation) so I continued to apply to new positions in different departments after I quit. To my surprise I got that call for an interview! I thought I had burned the bridge (even though I left on good terms) but the hiring managers are willing to meet me. What's the best way to explain why I left the last position without coming across like I'm making excuses?
The lying boss type is easy to deal with. 1. Lying bosses are not ashamed when they , so pointing out their lyes will not make any difference. 2. Be careful when answering their questions because they lie even when asking questions. 3. Don't talk to them too much. Keep the conversation to the minimum necessary because lying bosses are always testing you and have no interest in helping you. 5. Be patient and professional because the company will find out your boss is a lier sonner or later.
Years ago I've come to a situation where I have a voice recorder in my pocket just so I can hit it on cue when and if the bb attack, just so I can collecting evidence. I never got to use them though. After 9 months of episodes of depressions and sleeping apnea the bb suddenly out of the blue changed demeanor even strangely being too nice. I actually don't know what happened but I suspect 5:40 someone else reported the bb behavior and he got ... corrected by higher hands.
No, actually, my experience has been that if they decide they don't like you for whatever reason it's time to go. They are not likely to change their minds. Additionally, if they use any kind of negative label like abrasive - well, it's time to leave.
Basically according to this video, you should always bow to your boss even when they often use and abuse you .. It's that '' slaves for money mentality,'' that I don't like.. Working people need to learn how to manage their money correctly so they won't be slaves and used and abused by the boss.
How about who gives a F about this stupid bad boss, let them fire you, collect unemployment, profit. People are waaay to scared of confrontation. I say screw that, if some boss wants to get testy with me they will get it right back I don't give an F!!! Suprise surprise, my boss doesn't say squat and acts like a puppy dog.
Unemployment will reach out to your former place of employment and confirm why you are no longer working with them. You better hope they don't respond because if they say you were fired, you will lose getting unemployment. You may appeal the decision and I wouldn't have knowledge about that, but you're not collecting anything through that whole process. And if unemployment still feels you should've handled the situation better instead of just quitting...then that's that. You'll have to wait until you have a qualifiying unemployment from another employer. They're also going to look for documentation that you tried to resolve the issue first before just up and leaving, so it's very important to have notes and yes, even confront the boss. This way you have a leg up on winning that appeal should it come to that. All of this may take several weeks though (and maybe even months after the massive diluge of cases from the pandemic), so it might be worth it to just say screw it to unemployment and do your best to find a new job, even if it pays less, as some money will beat no money. As to how I know this, I work for my state's unemployment office (well, I do online chat). Also, make sure you were an exemplary employee...can't tell you how many "terminated due to absenteeism/tardiness" and "terminated due to misconduct" accounts I've seen and yet people still demand to know why they're not receiving unemployment 🤦🏾♀️.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley I have been an HR manager for over 10 years. If an employer fires you, you can and will collect unemployment every time with very few exceptions (gross misconduct). The very basis of unemployment is to collect for being fired through no fault of your own. I'm not sure why you're confused on this and think if they tell the unemployment office they fired you, you won't collect. You must have misspoke there or are confused. The only way a fired employee will not collect unemployment (outside of not having enough qualified hours worked/money in) is if you're fired for gross misconduct. First off this is difficult to prove and win for the employer, for good reason. You basically have to be caught stealing or fighting, physically, at work, or physically harassing people. The only other way to lose is to quit. Which I never advocate for.. My original post mentions that employees are far too scared of confrontation with their supervisors. You shouldn't be. As long as you don't commit gross misconduct, they cannot do a damn thing. Get verbally confrontational with your boss. Push back. Do not take any abuse. Do not let these people treat you like a door mat. They cannot do shit back outside of firing you, and if they do, good, you can and will be able to.collect unemployment. Of course you see lots of tardiness and misconduct cases denied. People are lazy and don't show up for work, and also people are crazy and will.literally physically assault people at work. Never do this. Never have I advocated this. I say continue to show up for work, treat your co workers with respect but do not be afraid to push back and get verbally confrontational with anyone.
@@gomonkey Might be just my state (Alabama) then, as just being fired isn't enough. A layoff is understandable as that's not your fault, nor is being let go due to any other reason that truly isn't your fault. Having a disagreement with your employer usually isn't enough here and you'll be hard pressed to get unemployment just because you didn't like the way your boss ran things, unless it endangered your safety (physically). I'm sure there are some exceptions that slip through even with this, but that isn't the norm here.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Well you can never quit. Ever, if you want unemployment. Let them fire you. Go Office Space style and just start slacking and shirking if it comes to it. Do not be afraid to push back against your boss. Stand up and get confrontational. I am not surprised about your state Alabama being tough on unemployment claims. I tell my conservative white friends all the time who want to leave blue cities/states/urban areas that red states are no panacea either, there are trade offs. Red states are pro business to the max and will generally side with big business and are the worst places for worker rights across the board, and wages are often low in these places. There are drawbacks.
I was working for a company and I could tell that the foreman disliked me and was under paying me after 3 years I asked the a 4 dollar/hr raise to meet the market median. I knew he wouldn't give me it but I didn't even get a counter offer. I asked why and was told that is was because I asked for too high of an increase to start off. Because I knew that it is what was going to happen. I had a job offer already and then gave my 2 weeks notice. The offer was for the $4/hr that I wanted so I worked out.
In America, just let them fire you, collect unemployment, and sit around and find the next job. I find in most cases, it's not worth appeasing a bad boss.
I don't agree in abusing the system. Other people have to pay your unemployment just so you can sit around 'and find the next job'. Look around for a job, get an offer, quit old job, and start your new job is how it should be.
@@pidpit4397 Sure but that’s not always an option. Maybe bosses should be held more accountable too as people wouldnt need to abuse a system if employers didnt abuse them.
if you are still looking for other work and just can't take it anymore, just sit back and watch. eventually the boss or the company will do something illegal or immoral and boom, quit with cause and file for unemployment bennies.
I had a lazy boss who straight up lied to me! When he was lazy it was fine ! When he lied to me was when I knew I had to make a plan ! I just quit lol !
My experience w bad bosses is that their peers & higher ups know, they just cant do much about this persons leadership shortcomings... Also, you should have a sense of who/what youre dealing w before you accept a job offer...if you get this bad boss assigned to you after youre already there, then jump ship...
I’m being trained by a toxic boss, and to be honest I don’t recall ever having one like this ever in my life they here I am I was mandatory transferred for the companies needs. They can’t get certain positions filled, and they selected a few of us out of the positions we were in and moved us, my previous job my previous job supervisors. I was successful there. I was happy there and my supervisors really didn’t wanna see me leaving the love for me to come back now. I’m in a position where the supervisor have he discourages questions doesn’t really seem to care about that. This is all brand new to me that the work I’m learning now is not the same as I had before and it doesn’t really want to train meis very very annoyed when I make mistakes when it’s a job that I was told I would have approximately 4 to 6 months to get a reasonable handle on it and now they wanna do secret visits on me to see how much I know what can I do?
The CEO of a UK company I was discussing a possible agency with stated "you will be expected to give 110% commitment to us". I replied, "that's impossible, you will never find anyone!". The promised luncheon meeting was immediately cancelled and I was very pleased, he wasn't....
I used to cuss and talk back to bad bosses. Several times I walked out after a good f#&! You. Love my current job now. Actually friends with my bosses now
My supervisor does blow at work, company doesn't care (about anything). Currently using the freedom/lack of supervision to study, while I work. Going to transition into an entry level IT role/help desk.
I think there are Chernobyl-level bad bosses mentioned in the video, then there are types of bosses who are sort of benign bad bosses. Don't get me wrong, these types of leaders still drive people to leave anyways... People who were great individual contributors rising to become people managers whilst having no skillsets in being a leader that manages people
My last job over worked me then complained that the 50 tickets and 30 requests were not getting done quick enough. I was the only tech at my location until they hired a second person who would later be my replacement.
I could use some advice here I started at this building I work second shift 2pm-10pm. This is the first time I’ve worked this shift. First 7 months I was treated very nicely and my boss and my bosses boss were both very approachable and generally friendly. Now my bosses boss got a promotion and everything seemed to go downhill from there and I can’t fathom why. Suddenly my bosses boss started being unfriendly (ie I stopped to say hi and ask how her recent vacation went. Then later I overhear her talking to another lady in the office saying that I was a weirdo for stopping to say hi to her. Want to note this was the first time in a month or two I had seen her). Then suddenly I find myself getting yelled at for small things ,for example my coworker left out a paintbrush from his shift earlier that day and I just moved his cart to the side and left it as I was on a time crunch and the brush was beyond saving. Well before my shift the next day I’m suddenly getting a slew of angry text messages that I wasted a paintbrush and didn’t clean up after my coworker. Needless to say I was pissed. (This was my boss yelling at me.) I should mention my boss and coworker have a history together and have worked together for 15 years. There have been about 8 different instances of getting yelled at by both my boss and bosses boss over petty things. The most rediculous being that one time I did not lock up the deli at exactly 3pm as I was caught up with something of higher priority. This is the first time that I’ve not locked it at the time requested. My bosses boss was so angry about it she put it in the staff meeting notes to make sure I’m locking the deli at 3pm every day. Now I’m not sure where this toxic behavior came from or what I did but it was not like that during my first 7 months. Now suddenly my boss is back to being his friendly self the last two months and my bosses boss is completely neutral. Am I just in a toxic place or is it just because they can’t really get to know me because I am on second shift. Sorry for long post but genuinely curious as I find it very strange. I’ve made very few mistakes at my job and all of them were very minor mistakes that I have personally witnessed both of my bosses make.
My last boss was horrible I caught covid and they could care less treated me so badly when I came back to work I eventually decided it was too toxic put my two weeks in and starting my new job next week my advice is leave no one job or boss is worth stressing over
Not sure if this is a sign of a toxic boss. He gives other positions to newer co-workers who have not been there as long as some others. There are other opportunities, but those are given to the managers family members. These positions are not even offered and I bust my butt doing only 2 types of work like some other co-workers. How are we supposed to better ourselves for other jobs, if the current boss does not offer anything?
I have been undergoing a 3 months internship and my internship is coming to an end in less than a week and my manager hasn't scheduled a date to discuss a full-time position with the company as was stated in the offer .. i don't know what to do . I don't want to come off aggressive ..Advice please 🥺
