I have had a reoccurring question on this video. What did we do with everything that we pulled out of the room and was that part of the 30 minutes? We dealt with everything we pulled out right away and it was mostly part of the 30 minutes, maybe 10 minutes more. In this case, everything that was pulled out just needed to be put away, and since my mom is very organized all she had to do was put all those items in the right location. Then we stuck everything that needed to be donated in the back of the van and dropped it off. When you film a video it adds a lot of time to the process, but we were only actively decluttering for about 20 minutes and then about 10 minutes to deal with all the stuff. Obviously, every room is different and the amount of clutter is going to vary a lot. What I am trying to show in this video is how much can be accomplished in a short time and what a difference just 30 minutes of focused decluttering can make. More than anything I want my videos to be encouraging help people to get inspired to live a simple life without all the clutter. Please take what inspiration you can from my videos and I hope you have a great day!
I wondered that too and so glad you FINISHED. I think if one uses this method, it's important to be sure you have time to finish the decluttering, or that basket(s) of stuff will become "migrating clutter". Great video!
My mom and Dad passed away , and I just keep bringing everything home, because I feel like she kept it , so it means something. She kept almost everything I ever had growing up. I can’t seem to let go of anything that has a memory of my childhood or my mom. She kept everything that she ever had , and from her parents that passed away. So I have so much stuff I can’t even use my rooms. I have alot of stuff that I had from my kids. All my sons things because he passed away . It hurts to give them away. My house isn’t big enough. She kept everything from my kids childhood too. What do I do? Thanks
This is so hard! I can completely understand how you would want to keep everything. First I would just give yourself some time. But I did hear something that stuck in my head after watching a video by the channel A to Zen Life. She was talking about how hard it was to get rid of all her family items and then she explained how the item wasn't the person and no matter how many things she kept from the person it didn't bring them back. For some reason this just clicked in my head, that we can keep the memories without having to keep the things. ru-vid.comvideos
Thank you so much Shannon, for helping me clear out my office. The area under the side desk is still empty as is the top of the desk. I'm putting away my shoes and removing things on a daily basis, so I don't start re-cluttering. It was fairly easy to go through the bins that we took outside of the office. Everything had a place to go to, it was a matter of putting things away and removing some stuff the from house. I always have fun organizing and decluttering my stuff when we do it together. I love you, MOM
Kfjastad you are such a delight to watch. I love your personality. You’re doing such a great job! Every video you do with your daughter your decision muscles are working stronger and quicker each time! Well done!
@@kellybiele9647 She had been trying to get me to declutter and go through things for years. When I finally gave in I actually love it and feel so much better and free when we are done. Thank you.
I'm glad you found a home for the stuff. 👍 As I was watching you take things out of the room, I was like..."Wait. Aren't we just moving clutter from point A to point B?" Love, love, love when you do the mother/daughter videos.❤
Most of that stuff just needed to be put away in the proper places in her home, but the things she didn't want went straight into the back of the car and was donated the same day =) I can only show so much because it would be a 3 hour video if not LOL.
I love you and your Mom! The bloopers are the best. I was also laughing because from one clip to the next little flamingos appeared on your Mom's desk. Great job, ladies! You are so good about accepting your Mom's process, Shannon. You show her a lot of respect for her choices. Yes, sometimes you question her, but you never seem to pressure her. Your relationship is just wonderful to see.
I love the idea of this and how you are creating an intensity to stay focused but Isn’t this a bit deceiving? The two or more laundry baskets full of items will take more than 30 minutes to put away. And if someone is struggling to get rooms clean, they may be overwhelmed by the mass quantity that is outside the door. I would love to see the video to include the putting away of the rest of it
Well this video was to see if we could just get this one room decluttered in 30 minutes, its not deceiving because I said many times we will have to deal with that stuff after we were done in that room. Also most of those items just needed to be put away in the proper place the stuff she didn't want went straight into the back of the car and was already dropped off at a thrift store. =)
Because of this very thing, I like dana k white’s method where you take it where it lives right then. You may not get as much progress done in that space but you could stop at any time and it will be better and you won’t have a clutter/future self gets to deal with it box. 😂
@@moonprints That is great if it works for you! Everyone has different things that work for them. I personally like to see a lot of progress and if I had to stop to put every item away I would be exhausted and probably give up LOL. But I also only have a limited amount of time and I find it easier to batch work. =)
Nothing against Shannon, but I agree with you. Kind of like a kid who is asked to clean his room and shoves everything in the closet. Still a fun video to watch.
I love that your mom is making space to make her art! Has she finished dealing with the pile outside the door? If it were me it might sit there a little too long. Dana K White talks about actually putting each item where it needs to go so you don’t have to touch it a second time, but then you are running around like crazy and it takes longer. A compromise of your method and Dana’s would be good. Like filling the basket and then going and putting everything where it is supposed to go before filling it again. It might take a little longer than 30 minutes, but when you were done you would really be done!
I agree with a middle ground for me personally! I do 15 minutes for tidy of a room on a daily task. I put the hardest room with the easiest room (kitchen with guest bedroom) and then make your other options and try for 4 or 5 times a week. I may only do one of the options too and that's fine! But I have to do the middle ground because I get distracted on the Dana white end and on the other end, I want to always TRY to help out my future self. I can't commit to doing it over again! So I do my 15 min and try to clear off surfaces and floors first and look for things that go in other rooms. I will make a pile for the bedroom, the basement, the kids room, etc and take the whole stack and put it away then or pile it on the stairs in stacks by room to take up as I go up the stairs. The piles put away as you go makes it more manageable to me.
Clutter attracts more clutter as they say. 🤣 I have to confess my office looks worse than your mom's office. 🙃 😊 It's also our smallest bedroom with a closet. I am a few years younger than your mom so I can totally relate. I also put up a table in my office for art and shipping of eBay packages. I sell a few items on eBay occasionally like your mom does. Good job!
I loved this video, I'm recently new to your channel. If those goblets are silver, I'd hold onto them. Silver is going to sky rocket, possibly to gold prices. Just saying....Have a great day
LOL loved the bloopers! Although I've been decluttering for the past 3 years, lately I'm on a roll to declutter even more! I had very fancy beautiful high heeled shoes that I finally decided to donate because I wore them only a couple of times (I walked like an ostrich in them lol). I also donated objects I kept because they were gift even though I didn't like them. Same thing with "dust magnet" home decor and I removed everything on my kitchen counters except for my Nespresso machine, toaster and fruit bowl! My dining room table has now zero things on it. Not even a runner! And still going...my decluttering muscles are in full motion!!! Thank you for your videos I really enjoy them!🤗😘❤
Your mom could be a comedian! I just love her! & I have a room that is a tad more intense than this before, but everything GOES in that room! 🤣😭 Help, Shannon! 🏳 Thanks for another great video! You’re my favorite YT channel these days! 💓
Loved this video. It's crazy how everything piles up so easy. Before u know it. Sometimes it's hard to put things away right away but that's the key to. Keeping things tidy. My bedroom gets this way very fast. Thanks for sharing. Nice of u to help your mother out .
Thank you Barbara! That is the key, but as we all know sometimes when we are busy it can be hard to stay on top of all the stuff =) I hope you are doing well.
You two are so much fun to watch - I'm inspired! My Mom used to be my declutter buddy, she was SO on top of clutter, and helped me alot with my challenges.
You and your mom just make me so happy to watch. You could be washing windows even. Just your joy together! I’m her age and trying hard to not make our kids deal with the house of stuff from parents we had to. This is just so much more fun. My sisters and I enjoyed each other but it was overwhelming. You two tackle one bit at a time so wise.
It might be too much right now given you are busy with the baby, but I do enjoy your book reviews! Always enjoy the videos with your mom - lots of fun!
Hello, Pretty much it did because it took us about 20 minutes to declutter this room and because we were filming that always slows the process down a lot. Then everything she took out of the room she stuck in the back of the car to be donated and everything else had a place in the house so it was easy to just put away. Obviously the trash was thrown away and the boxes recycled. So yes I would say it would have taken exactly 30 minutes had we not been filming it.
Love it Shannon! You guys are a hoot together and you get stuff done. It seems like your mother is ready to be decluttering after many years. More parents should see the light. Haha
"Not in my office" is a good mindset 🤣 My method is to get everything out and put it all back in order of importance, then get rid of everything else. A bit too overwhelming 🤣
Hi sweet ladies! I'm sooo ready to tackle spring cleaning! But so little time and energy at this stage of pregnancy! 🤣 this video and tips are great to get me started in tiny projects even a few times a day!!
Always so much fun to watch a video with you and your Mom. Office looks great in such a short amount of time. Looks like your Mom has lost weight? Thanks for sharing.
Love when you work with your mum🤗. Great job.. But I guess you need another hour to deal with everything you took out of the room to either rehome, bin, donate etc
I love seeing you working with your mother. How long did it take to deal with the stuff that was removed from the room? Did it all find a place? How much left the house entirely? If it’s not leaving the house, is it decluttering or is it tidying?
Wow you guys are just awesome! Loved the video ☺️ And it's easier to declutter with someone who's willing to do so.. I have someone close to me, who I'd love to help. But that person has issues of letting go because of past trauma. Do you have any tips for that? I'd appreciate it a lot! 🙏🏼
I would say go slow and it can help if you can find good places for these things to go. My mom is always willing to get rid of more items if she knows someone wants it or can use it.
@@shannontorrens1 thank you for those tips, I think knowing someone can use it would help my person as well ☺️ good idea, I'll bring that up! We're actually decluttering right now hahah
