My sectional is the corner of the living room in front of a 10ft wall; while the sofa is 6ft long. Do I decorate the wall based on the length of the sofa or that of the wall? I would like to hang a mirror horizontally but if I hang it based on the sofa’s proportions, I would feel as if the mirror would be situated too much onto the one side of the room and would make the room appear off balanced. I have a tv stand that faces the other portion of the sectional. Do you have any other videos showing how to decorate behind sectionals?

Great question! I would still center the mirror above that section of your couch, then put something tall at the end of the couch that will help take up space on the wall, but not necessarily be hanging on the wall. Like a tall plant or lamp. That will fill in the rest of the blank space, and not make things feel off balance. I hope that helps. I haven't made a video like that, but I will definitely consider it.

@@VintageHipDecor thanks for the response. The only problem with putting something tall is that it will block the view of the tv. It’s a bit of a small tight space. I also thought that by putting something on the wall, in addition to the mirror, will make everything appear off balance. Perhaps one big picture frame or several?!

It depends on the rest of the space and whether you prefer more or less in your life, but a gallery wall on the biggest wall and a mirror or one or two simple pieces on the other side should balance things out. There is also nothing wrong with some blank space as well. I hope that helps!

I have query that the photo wall should start 8 inches above sofa but how tall it can be for a small space npt to look overwhelming? I am asking about height? Is there any ratio with respect to wall height above sofa ?

I would leave at least a foot of empty space above your wall hangings to the ceiling.

That's a great question! You basically just want to make sure that the shelf or ledge doesn't interfere with anyone sitting on the couch. You don't want to hang it too high either so try to hang it closer to the couch, but high enough so that one bumps into it.

I have sofa 73 inches in length, if I get a round mirror to go over it how big in diameter would the mirror need to be? And what else could I put on each side of it

Great question!! 48" would be 2/3 of the total length of your couch, so you could look for a mirror that is 48" in diameter. I did a quick google search for you, and they definitely make them in that exact size. If you did go with a 48" mirror, you would already have taken up 2/3 of the space above your couch like we talked about in the video, so you wouldn't have to hang anything else on each side of it, but if you still wanted too, you could go with a slightly smaller mirror and hang sconces on each side. Something tall and skinny that takes up about 2/3 of the height of the mirror. If that makes sense! I have a beautiful portrait (vertical) canvas that I want to put above my couch. I have not yet ordered the size. Can I put just one piece like that to one side? I am thinking 1/3 the width of the couch and hanging off-center. 4 inches above the couch? Great video! Thank you!

We do recommend trying to center items above your couch and aim for 2/3 scale like I mention in this part of the video 9:04 but if it looks good to you and you're happy with it, then go for it! You can always change it up again.

What do you do if you have a sectional against two walls in a small living room?

Contrary to popular belief, a large sectional can make a small living room look larger. The key is to keep it the same or similar color to the walls it's against so it's much more subtle and doesn't just dominate the entire room. Keep in mind that your sectional should not be directly against the wall. Make sure there are at least a few inches of space between the furniture and the wall. We hope that helps!
