Hi Guys! This video is all about how to decorate Mediterranean Greek villa design style , aka Mamma Mia vibes haha :) Although filmed mainly on a film set, the cast and crew did film a lot on the Sporades group of islands.
Picture this, you’re running around, belting ABBA tunes to the high heavens, whilst staying at the most picturesque Greek Villa on the island of Skiathos, with views out to Skopelos- I mean, what more can you ask for? Well maybe you want to try and mimic the Greek island style in your own home & make it feel like your own Mamma Mia Movie set. That's what sparked the inspiration for this video anyway :) So if you want to see how to create Greek Interior design & the Mediterranean design style, lets go!

My dear friend is Greek Cypriot. I have a photo she gave me of her homeland. I was surprised to see that not all Greek architecture is the vivid white with blue. Where she comes from is more rural and rustic with natural stone buildings, more earthy brown and olive colours. I'd love to travel there one day. I do love the vivid white and blue, tho it's too vivid for me. Very enjoyable video. You put so much thought into your presentations 🫒

And, while we're thinking about decors associated with stucco buildings, a possible topic for a future video might be warm, cozy, and colorful Mexican decor - which, like Mexican food, is world-class! Of course, Mexico is a large country with probably several regional variations - so there might have to be some narrowing of focus. 😃

@@dantierandbalogh Hola! I live in Arizona. The influence of traditional Mexican decor is huge here - particularly among those Mexicans and Mexican-Americans living here. Think Spanish meets Indigenous; Old World meets New World (well, the 1500's isn't exactly "new"); thick, heavy rustic furniture; colorful, ornate tiles; arches; rounded corners; and BOLD colors I would never dream were compatible living side-by-side in a harmony. Fascinating how it all works so well together.

(I really hope I spelled that correctly.🙃) I just wanted to say I loved and appreciated this video so much because I am Greek-American and Greek villa style is overlooked so often, which is crazy to me because it’s so beautiful! 💙🥒🇬🇷 Anyway, thank you again. Also, I am working on my bedroom right now and I’m struggling with the differences between light academia, romantic academia, shabby chic, coquette, Regency, and Victorian. I don’t know if anybody else would want a whole video on the differences between those, but I sure would! Also, I may be wrong, but I don’t think I’ve seen a video from you on traditional glam, which I would also love to get your take on. Thanks for all your great videos! 💕💕💕

I completely understand as they're so similar in terms of style & in my opinion there's only minor difference between them. Since blue is also a popular door color in northern Africa and parts of the Middle East, whatever the origins (I've heard that it warded off harm from entering the home, but I'm not Greek) I'd hazard that it's psychological. A door invites you in, and in a hot climate a blue door promises cool shade inside. It's difficult to imagine anyone wanting a blue door in Alaska, but there a red door might feel inviting.

I am from Greece and I loved your video! This is how traditional Greek houses are designed. As far as the bed you mentioned, most old beds in traditional houses were made of iron. So the bed on Mama mia is pretty accurate!

New follower here! LOVE your videos and your personal style! Great make-up and hair choices! :) My decor style is very adaptable as I have moved so many times. I just love the process of pulling things together intuitively, it usually comes together beautifully with a mix of romantic, bohemian, mystical/magical, and influences from travels around the world. I've not had my own place though (thanks to living in some of the most expensive cities in the world), so I look forward to the day when I have a whole cottage and garden as a fresh palette.

I love this episode ! I recently found 2 oil paintings at the thrift shop showing the Mediterranean seaside. I have a list of decorating ideas for each month, and I have a box of items for each month. -- For September I have Back to School with books and children. Here in the US we see a lot of owls for this theme. I think brass goes well with this. We think of an apple for the teacher, so I put out my apple decor, although apples are more for October. Also for September I think of Italy and grapes. I think of the State Fair, with canning jars and blue ribbons, carnival rides, etc. -- For October, I think of Germany and Eastern Europe. Also I happen to have a lot of Chinese orange and blue pieces. I like tarnished silver with orange Chrysanthemums. -- For November, we think of hunting season and Native American and Thanksgiving. The US thrift shops seem to be much bigger than ours😥 Ours aren't so great here I have to admit 😅 You have really put alot of thought into the different decor ideas for different months of the year. I love that🥰 Particularly the grape harvest🍇 I will certainly be decorating for Autumn in our house (even though we don't have Thanksgiving here🤣). But Autumn is my favourite month 🍁🍂🫖☕🎃 Sending love your way 🐦

As a Greek you were spot on. Sporadic islands have exactly this decorative style. Cycladic islands have another style, Ionian islands a different one, etc. It’s very interesting to see how people from different parts of the world incorporated mediterranean style in their homes.

Love these videos so much!! As were coming into the colder months, would you do northern european, but not scandi? The place ive stayed in iceland didnt feel scandi, they felt like they had their own traditional and viking style, though that may have just been for tourist purposes 😂

❤ Great video, very thorough and thoughtful. Will be looking into and looking forward to all your videos as I've just subscribed. I'd like to add that the other side to Greek interiors was featured in the film Corelli's Mandolin ( I might be off a bit on the title). And I don't recall whether you mentioned why the homes are stark white on this part of Greece - it is of course to reflect the sunlight off the buildings to help keep them cooler in the summer. Again, loved the video and especially appreciated how you suggested the style might be incorporated in the average home.👍

@@dantierandbalogh thank you! symi is beautiful but go to rhodes and take a day trip to symi because there’s not much to do in symi - pefkos is a really nice place to stay in in rhodes, it’s a holiday village full of hotels and restaurants, lindos is also gorgeous and more traditional
