I believe I read an article that said the notion of zombies was totally unacceptable in Chinese culture. World of Warcraft roll out to Mainland China got hung up on this. I either read, or infered, that it was because of Comfucian ancestor worship.
communism is basically against religion. And all these ghosts and vampire stuff are part and parcel of religious beliefs. So when the cultural revolution started, everything connected with religion was destroyed to the extend that children, relatives, and friends are known to report to authorities about underground worshiping. Even today, with the relaxation of worshiping, churches and temples must be sanctioned (meaning pro communistic preaching) by the party.
Brooms? :o I was told that cleaning during Chinese New Years, especially with a broom, was not ideal because you could clean/sweep away ancestors/good spirits which translates into telling them they are not welcome in your house. I had no idea it carried over to bad spirits as well.
weapon ideas: kanabo or bat made of peach wood a shotgun that uses jubjube seeds as buckshot molotov cocktails (duh) flamethrower using a water gun etc skills needed: able to hold your breath for a long time simple speed and strength roaster control sowing and knitting skills ( black stained thread thing) etc a few ideas to survive a chinese zombie apocalypse ( cant say or pronounce the proper word)
I AM SAFE~ Because in the Philippines, there are roosters EVERYWHERE! They never do it on the right time though... stupid birds, waking me up on 3 AM... I also have a lighter, and a lot of wood. And the black ink stained thread too! Sticky rice won't be a problem... I should probably buy some Japanese rice form the supermarket though... I also have a lot of unused mirrors! Don't forget the fact in the Philippines, there are brooms practically EVERYWHERE! Yup, the Philippines is very prepared for an apocalypse, this kind anyways!
Okay, I think I got it. All I need to do is become an incantation writing Taoist Priest/Master of Acupuncture with a bunch of peaches and Jujube seeds living on a mirror and broom filled black thread wrapped rooster and black dog farm covered in sticky rice who owns a Bagua, Sword made from Ancient coins, handbells, and a lot of loose change. Who holds the world record for holding breath. Sounds simple enough, I'm invincible
The holding your breath thing reminds me of an episode of Jackie Chan Adventures where he's fighting I believe vampires or zombies and he holds his breath and they can't sense where he is.
Me: *sees Jiangshi* Boys, get the brooms and mirrors. Let's have some fun. RELEASE THE ROOSTERS! THROW THE COINS! GET THE SEEDS! EQUIP THE FLAMETHROWER! HIRE THE MONKS!
Ahh, been waiting for this video for a long time! I thought I was screwed and would never be able to defeat jiangshi until you mentioned brooms. I definitely have those lying around. :D It's kind of interesting how mirrors defeat vampires in both Chinese and European tradition too...I mean, fire makes sense for defeating monsters, but mirrors aren't as obvious.
Finally! I was afraid you'd never make this video! Now I feel safe. Although I've known about their obsession with counting since I was a kid. It's good to have some more weapons in my arsenal though.
Night Rogue 95 thats glutinous rice. Jiangshi fear glutinous rice like werewolves fear sliver. Cooked version can apply on recent bitten wounds on human to neutralize the poison. But beware it will be extremely painful. Raw ones can just throw at jiangshi, even older one to deal mild damages on them. But imagine..grind raw glutinous rice into powder..stuff it in peachwood bullet shells and shot at jiangshi. That will be a cool weapon to kill jiangshi even older ones. But you will need tons and tons of raw glutinous rice and peachwood.
What about pasting "blessed paper" on their forehead? I remember watching a lot of shows, and they would sometimes paste these long, yellow, "blessed" papers onto jiang shis
I actually learned all the defeats by watching zombie Chinese movies such as "Mr. Vampire". The movies can actually show you how it looks like when using those tools; especially stick rice ;)
Thanks, those weird things around my house have been bothering me for weeks! Fire was effective. The good side, they are gone.. The bad side of things.. Where is my house? I should have been more careful :(
I think a lot of traditional asian families have a bagua (not sure of the spelling) on their doors. so, we could just stay at home, wait until sunrise, and go back to our regular routine.
Most every monster seems to be vulnerable to fire. jangshi, vampires, mummies, Prometheans (like Frankenstein's monster), Wendigos, yetis, ect. so really all you need is incendiary ammo for most things, and hollow points for everything else (pack what ever the monster is allergic to inside). Just don't go setting any forest fires. That doesn't do anyone any favors.
Didn't you say that jiang shi were created by sticking incantations on the fore head but in the video you said incantations were used to deafeat them I do not know why reply if you know
Well if the 僵尸 bits you than you well die and it will take about a few hours or days for you to transform. But if your alive and the 僵尸 buts his /her nail in the flesh then you will transform but one way to stay alive if he/she sticks their nails in your flesh is to keep moving. Don't stop. Cause if you the poison will travel through your body. Keep eating sticky rice. And only sticky rice. I hope that help...sorry for the late reply!
I watched this Chinese movie when I was like really young and after that one movie, I couldn't watch any horror movies for the rest of my life. Like I'm terrified. This is what nightmares are made of. Anyways thank @OfftheGreatWall for these tips!
Hey Mike and Dan. In this video you guys mentioned several books on the supernatural and ways to defeat jiangshi's. I'm interesting in reading these books. Could you please give me the Chinese names of the books? Thanks and great video!
I Ching / Book of Changes is 易經 Book by Yuan Mei, Zǐbùyǔ is 子不語 in Chinese The one about mirrors, Běncǎo Gāngmù is 本草綱目 You can find all three from Chinese wikisource: zh.wikisource.org/wiki/%E5%91%A8%E6%98%93 zh.wikisource.org/wiki/%E5%AD%90%E4%B8%8D%E8%AA%9E zh.wikisource.org/wiki/%E6%9C%AC%E8%8D%89%E7%B6%B1%E7%9B%AE
Zombies (viral/illness or ghost/curse) would be controlled by too much negative earth energy either way. I'd imagine metal and wood energies would be best to deter their undead energies from coming near. Peach wood, coins, and wulou gourds seem effective to me.
Ale R Nope its not, its a mythology about dead corpse coming back to life in China. The origin story is that a priests transport those dead corpse to they're origin homes for burial.
+MikeChen, is that your brother? You're both REALLY funny and great RU-vidrs! Thanks for making this video! I plan to use the jiang shi in my DBZ/SPN crossover fanfic on fanfiction.net, "The Saiyan Winchester". Please check it out! It's gonna be SO AWESOME!
A closer zombie partner for this species is the ekimmu/utukku, both are the result of do wrong funerals for the dead, and return as mindless, ravenous predators for their families and towns. The diference, ekimmu eats the flesh of their victims, and use their shadow for stop them, like the nachzerer. The much closer jiang-shi brother is the ro-lang, like a fusion between the jiang-shi, the vetala, and the jumbee, a result of the demonic posession of a dead body.
not in a bad way. i uhh, am not saying you have pug eyes.... haha pug means fighter, and it was so serious like rambo soldier crazy serious look you know? ''
wait wait so why dont the guards of impermanence come after your soul if you're covered in rice? why is this a good thing? how do you use it against zombies? do you cover yourself in rice or the zombie?
Its not just any rice, it must be glutenous rice. As far as zombies/vampires are concerned, they're thought of as being very poisonous - its this poison that causes them to be reanimated (something along those lines) and glutenous rice is the antidote. If I'm not wrong, these vamp will try to avoid anywhere there's sufficient glutenous rice (uncooked of course). Once its cooked, its no longer effective.
Off the Great Wall OH CHRISTINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WOW really? thank you!!!
