The best part of the film is when you said: Police will not be there to protect you, but will sure be there to arrest you.

You gotta be careful, and stay on point. Stay with in the Law, but because of the way of some folks thinking,, well that's the problem, their not thinking. So at that point, it's definitely myself or them... And now I'm the Law, and I'm not arresting..... Stay safe, Stay strong and focused.. But most of all:: Stay American Proud!!!👍

Great video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you researched - Mahorrla Defence Wisdom Method (do a google search)? It is a good exclusive product for securing your home from danger minus the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin at very last got amazing results with it.

I feel your pain. I have been involved in a few armed violent encounters. Here are some things to consider in a home invasion. 1.Have hearing protection for everyone in your family that is going to fight. 2.12ga. Pump with 18 to 20 inch barrel. OObuck. With a good light. And a side saddle with extra ammo. 3. Body armor next to the bed if you have time wear it. 4. Stay where you are make the bad guys come to you. 5. Have a predetermined field of fire.(a position with cover or concealment. 6. Get small lie on the floor weapon covering field of fire. Try to shoot from low to high. Head shots. Bad guys wear armor now. 7. Because he went down does not mean he was hit. Stop the threat with multi hits. 8. Use the weapon light. Once you have identified the threat do not hesitate if the intruder does not stop when told to. 8. Again, do not hesitate if the intruder(s) does not immediately stop. If he wants to leave let him go. 9. You will win every fight you never have. 10. As you fight, or when the attack has stopped, top off your shotgun. Shoot then move. Shoot and move. Shoot and move. 11. Be ready to fight until the police arrive. Don't think its over when the shooting stops. 12. Keep medical supplies in the room or place you are defending. Compression bandages and a tourniquet or 2. 13. If you have a partner have them call the police tell them where live, who you are, and where you are in the house then do not hang up but put the phone down receiver up so police can hear you. Before fight begins if possible. 14. Try to turn fear into anger or fierceness. Be determined to stay in the fight if you are wounded. I have perimeter cameras set up 8 around my home that are hard wired and attached to the TV in my bedroom. Entry points to my yard are double perimeter. The cameras are infra red and hidden. I think it is better if they don't know you can see them entering your property. The cameras have motion detectors and send an email with picture to my phone along with an audio notice.. Signs telling people that you will kill them can be used against you in court if you are involved in a shooting. I keep 50 rounds of OO buck on a bandolier next to the shotgun. Tell all family members that if they hear you scream the code word or gunfire, everyone gets on the floor. Any one left standing gets shot. Makes target ID easier. If you see an intruder and he has a weapon, do not give a verbal warning. Shoot the moment you identified the weapon. If you are pointing your weapon at the attacker and he moves closer than 15 ft commence firing, even if you can not identify a weapon. He could take yours. Follow these rules and you may live. Remember bullets go 2 directions, incoming and outgoing. No mercy. They broke into your home. May God Bless and protect you and your family. Sincerely, Az Slim.

Yeah right. If Congress would have got off their fat corporate subsidized asses and passed the hearing protection act, we could have a suppressor on the "house gun". Will I have time for everyone in the house to don their earmuffs or ear plugs? Hell NO! Be prepared to have your ears ring for the next day or two. The Browning .22 SA sounds like a BB gun, but it's only .22LR, however 13 .22LR rounds is something I'd rather not have shot into my body. Being a semi-auto and a perfectly balanced little rifle it's super easy to put all the round on target really fast. 00 Buck is super overkill for inside the home. I removed the slugs & 00 for the "house gun 12ga" and went to #1 Buck, #4 Buck, and #5 Birdshot, and this is too heavy for a modern home. I have plaster over drywall, so it's okay for my home. #5 or even #7 won't spread enough in the average sized room enough to make any difference, at all. If the intruder(s) turn and run, let them run. DO NOT SHOOT ANYONE FLEEING, IN THE BACK. Arizona law in NOT 15 feet, it's 21 feet, or 7 yards. Anyone with a knife, screwdriver, ice pick, or bat, is fair game at 7 yards or less. You'd be surprised how fast someone can close that 21 feet to 0 feet, when they rush you. I gave up on weapon lights for $2-$4 AAA battery pen lights. I always have 10 or 15 of them around, and ALWAYS have one or two clipped to my shirt, even my pajama shirt. The lights I found are super reliable, and started life as cheap bore inspection lights. They are superbly well suited for a light that can go everywhere you do, and they take AAA batteries, you can buy anywhere. I "NEVER" put signs, like "Protected by Smith & Wesson", or "Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again", or "This property is protected by a Colt 1911, three nights a week, you guess which three." "Got Sig" "Glock Perfection": or even a simple "NRA" sticker ANYWHERE on ANY of my property. A simple "No trespassing" and "Beware of dog", sign are more than sufficient, along with the alarm company signs. Make sure your cameras are high definition, otherwise all a jury sees is "someone robbing you", but they cannot tell who it is, so it's not as effective as evidence, especially for a burglary, when you are not at home. Just because an attacker is down, does not mean he/she is out of the fight, so either disarm, disable (handcuff or ziptie), or dispatch them, as the situation warrants. TRY TO CALL THE POLICE BEFORE YOU DISCHARGE ANY WEAPON! THE FIRST TO CALL ALWAYS STANDS THE BETTER CHANCE IN COURT! THE SOONER YOU CALL THE POLICE, THE BETTER! LEAVE THE LINE OPEN! COMMUNICATE WITH DISPATCH, AND MAINTAIN COMMUNICATION SO THE POLICE DO NOT SHOOT YOU BY MISTAKE! I have my non engaged family members retreat to their bedrooms, or a bedroom with a door that locks. They also have access to their own stash(es) of firearms. Accommodate anyone who is elderly, but able to shoot. My mother is 82. She went from autoloading 9mm, to a .380 tip up Beretta FS86, and a Colt Detective Special. Two guns, with respectable rounds, light triggers, decent capacity, and no slides to rack. She also practices reloading, dry firing, and she even goes to the range. She LOVES going to the range! She really loves that scaled down FS92, in .380, that she can load and shoot, without any assistance. 8+1, and she practices loading, unloading, and reloading, all the time, so she can enjoy more shooting at the range. Have your cameras covering each other. In Pueblo Colorado, burglars routinely steal the cameras, first, then come back later to steal the good stuff. The neighbor's cameras usually catch them swiping a camera. By the time the neighbor discovers that video, it's too late.

I find it hard to believe that you honestly think "headshots" are going to be a viable option. For 1 when you're experiencing that adrenaline dump good luck hitting a headshot on a moving target that may be shooting back at you. And if they are wearing kevlar I'm pretty sure a shot center mass even from a handgun is going to make them reevaluate their choices

I used to have a German Shepherd when I lived in a rural area, and myself and one other neighbor were the only people that didn't get broke into, or our houses didn't get robbed. I also had a Remington 1187 with choate stock and a mag extension, etc, with ghost ring sights, etc, that i used to keep at home. I also installed lights all around the house that would come on with movement and I of course made it hard for the bad guys by removing bushes from around the house, and we never left the same time each day, and someone was almost always at home, or we had the neighbor and I would watch each others house. He also didn't get robbed. It's so important to watch what's going on around you as you say. I'm sure I"ve avoided trouble by just watching what's going on around me when living in Indy and other big cities. Great video. I've been lucky, but it's great information you've talked about here and I hope it helps others too! T

While a dog (or dogs) is the best alarm system, I always worried that the bad guys would kill them first, and when I had two German Shepherd dogs, they were far more valuable than any material possessions I had, and I don't mean monetarily. They were my best friends and would have laid down their lives for me, mine and each other. I could live with stuff being stolen, been through that, but to lose either or both if them - Hell hath no fury...

You also need a means of "less than Lethal" options. If 1 of the 3 scrap metal guys wanted to dance with you and he was "unarmed" and he met his fate from your G26, you may run into issues. A G26, an extra Mag, and a 1.3 ounce can of Cold Steel "Inferno" Pepper Spray...now you're set for any threat on your property. As a retired Jersey Cop, a less lethal option should always be at hand.
@sootch00
@sootch00 10 лет назад
I agree. Less than Lethal is smart because not every situation requires a gun. In my shop, I keep a canister of Bear Repellent Pepper Spray and should have mentioned it. Thanks for the comment and the service you gave to your community.

Riot control sized Bear Sprays are Very Good, and even better at times for for Home Defense especially for Females. Unless you have one on a Hip Holster, the I would Recommend a small 1.3 ounce Inferno Cold Steel can, that fits great in a Cargo pocket to accompany your G26. Good luck to you securing your Home, and remember don't divulge all of your security layers you have placed or will place.

Sootch, I was in a similar situation, except I had repeat robberies of my property over the span of a few weeks. The situation drug out to the point I was involved with everyone from the Sheriff, DA, circuit court clerk and a lawyer. I too put up signs on my property and around my house that said things like your 'nothing here is worth your life' sign and was advised by my lawyer and the Sheriff to take them down immediately. If you ever had to defend yourself with deadly force, those signs could be used against you in court. And I live in TN with the Castle Doctrine as well.
@clamum
@clamum 10 лет назад
I agree with accurate alloys; wouldn't signs like that be better for a defense? Maybe the argument why they aren't is that a jury could be persuaded to believe that you were just waiting for someone to shoot with signs like that.
@jcaled24
@jcaled24 10 лет назад
clamum If that was the case, to aid in your defense, lawyers would probably advise people to put up signs all over their house that basically state you will kill intruders.. maybe other people have, but I'm yet to speak with that lawyer. I think most will tell you that the signs are more of a legal liability than a defensive asset. They really don't inform people of anything they don't already know.. Every robber already knows that breaking into a residence can be extremely hazardous to their health. No trespassing signs say enough without stating something that could be possibly misconstrued as a premeditated intent to kill. How do you think a T-shirt that said something along the lines of 'attacking me is not worth your life' would have helped Zimmerman? ... May make you feel tough, but that shit just hurts you.

Good advise on "the knock out game", Sootch. I got attacked right outside of my colleges campus while waiting for a bus last year. I'm a 21 year old, 230lb healthy male, and when he came up behind me with a brick in hand, I went out like a light with one shot. I'm in quite a predicament though. I work full time while working towards a BA at a state college, and pay the bills at home, so my disabled mother with MS, doesn't have to work in agony. This means after books, school fee's, and bills, I have nothing to spend on being prepared for whatever gets thrown at me. Two more years till im out of school. Then I can work towards having peace of mind again. Thanks for the entertainment. -- Adam

Sootch, I've been watching your video's for a year now and have learned a great deal. Just wanted to publicly say thank you, and send our best wishes in light of the recent unfortunate events and break-in We have experienced a similar event here in Mill Valley CA (May 10th 2013) Some punk forced his way into the only accessible window in our house and ransacked the place. What's amazing is he was only in our home for 18 minutes and it completely changed our lives... My wife came home and came face to face with a clean cut kid in our driveway. He high tailed it when he realized she was the homeowner. She was so stunned and surprised she called me instead of the sheriff! When i got her call I was sitting at the gate on an airplane bound for Asia (business trip) Gotta tell you, it was a nightmare. I told her to stay in the car and call the police, which she did. The sheriff came by to inspect the house, and a very good neighbor of ours came by to help out in my absence. He boarded up the window and made certain to be at the ready in case they came back. On the front step of our house the sheriff found a small Sentry safe I'd purchased from Home Depot years ago. Inside the safe was $1000 cash. All they took was the jewelry and gold they could find in the master bedroom - The shot gun I had in the closet and Ruger revolver in the kitchen were untouched. The .22LR Rifle in the family room downstairs was undisturbed. Thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident. Even though my wife lost some very sentimental jewelry, we are thankful that is all that was taken. And, we kind of view this as a wake up call. All in all we've been much more aware of our home security at all times since that day. Since the break in we've closed up that bathroom window (Suspecting this window was a "problem spot" I'd called a contractor the day before the break in to schedule this work) We've also bought a Canon Gun Safe, installed a ADT system and joined a neighborhood watch website called "Nextdoor Tam Valley" Its alarming how many incidents happen in our neighborhood every single week.... Sad really. The doors of our home and cars are always locked now. We've put out a "Beware of Dog" sign. Ladders and any garden tools are either hidden or locked away. Don't be naive folks. This country is changing. Protect your self and what you consider important. Be prepared. Unfortunately you don't get to choose when somebody is going to try to take what's yours or worse harm those you love. MF

Good point about situational awareness and being the 'protector'. I worked in Close Protection in the UK Military and in training we were always told - look after yourself first of all. This might seem to contradict Close Protection. But if the 'protector' is out of action, he/she is useless to the person he/she is supposed to be protecting.

I sympathize with you about the break-in. In the last 8 years, we have had 4 thefts, although only one involved entering our house. On two occasions, a GPS was taken from my locked car in the driveway. The biggest loss was an $1100 standby generator taken from our rear patio while the gen set was still connected to the house. The actual home entry had to be by an acquaintance, as the only thing taken was a nearly full bottle of prescription pain medication I take for arthritis in my hands. Finally I said, "enough is enough," and at age 71 bought my first firearm. Now I carry every day and keep it close by when at home. I still have much to learn and much practice to do, but I am determined to do what it takes to protect my family and myself.

I'm just a normal guy, I take care of my family, aware of surroundings, avoid dangerous places... basically everything the normal law abiding responsible citizen does. I've had my house broken into twice (two separate places, not where I live now), my car half a dozen times. I had a group of four men approach me and say "Your bitch is ours" in an attempted robbery and kidnapping. Long story short, I took a beer bottle to the face and a fist to the jaw. The young woman with us was safe, as was my wallet. They ran like cowards. I've been shot at twice. All of these, completely random things... not in dangerous places, just crazy.... absolutely insane this stuff happens. A guy asked me for a light on an empty street... I realized he was looking behind me. I turned to see a man walking up behind me quickly with a hood over his face. The coward asking me stood in front of me and closed distance trying to lock me into position. I said "Sure, one second" and reached under my coat near my pocket. They both ran as fast as could be when they saw what my hand was on. I've never had to fire a gun in self defense, but there have been so many times where situational awareness, being prepared for anything, and more importantly the balls to stand up and be a man have shown importance. The biggest one being preventing a kidnapping and most likely rape.

Sootch you are really on the right track. I come from Austria, the country next to Germany and also here in our "civilized" Europe, as it's ever called, we get more and more bad guys. I live in a house with 12 apartments and last year we had three break ins in our basement and one in our underground garage and someone set fire to our big dust bins in front of the house for two times. So I agree with you that protection is so necessary in present time. So the bad thing is, that the gun-law in Austria is really strict, but I managed it to get the warrant to have a gun at home, so I am able to protect myself and my family in our apartment. We good guys have to brace up to make our life and our world as safe as possible and in my opinion it's really a crime when politicians are going to forbid guns, because we are the good ones so we have the right to protect our lives. God bless you sootch, you are really one of the good ones.

I live in Arizona, a gun friendly state if any! However, I have set up my home so that my Last resort is my gun. It is called hardening your home. The house I bought is primarily constructed of concrete 4 x 8 x 16 block. There are 3 entry doors, I stared by replacing all three doors with the typical steel insulated 6 panel entry doors, while doing this I tore out the framing to find only three points along the door fastened with small nails. I had my doors on sight, so I was able to rebuild each frame specific to the door with no gaps, shims or cheap nails. The frames are secured into the wall with 3 inch screws every 8 inches up and down both of the side frames, then the new door with it's pre built frame is also secured into the wall with 3 inch screws in between the frame screws. Hinge and lockset screws also 3 when it could be. I put an 11 inch lock re-enforcement plate to accept the knob and deadbolt locks in with 3 inch screws. I did not stop there, I bought 3 security doors to protect the steel doors. These security door screws go into solid wood and there are 12 screws per door. Next a friend at Home Depot introduced me to locking hasps. I bought 6 of these, carriage bolts and more 3 inch wood screws. When I bed down at night the hasps are also locked, this prevents a lock picker from opening the security doors. I built a steel cage around my power panel so home invaders can not shut off the power. 3 of the small windows have what is called crimsafe a baseball bat proof screen protecting them, the other 6 windows have rolling shutters typical in hurricane prone areas, these cover the entire window when closed, and store in a 7 inch square steel box overhead, looking attractive and easy to operate. I have motion sensored lights completely around the house, they come on a dusk, shut off at dawn. If the sensor is disturbed, the lights change from dim to bright automatically. 4 cameras see all windows and doors and are fed to 2 TV's in the living room and master bedroom. I can quietly call 911, give a complete description of the person without opening any doors or windows. I can also arm myself and let the 911 dispatcher know I am armed. Once police arrive my weapon is secured before I open a door to speak with the officers. The criminal would spend far too much time trying to get in before police arrive. Once the dispatchers tells the officers the homeowner is armed, they get there very quick to hopefully ensure you do not have to use deadly force. Yes money is involved, but not what you will pay an attorney to defend you if the county prosecutor decides to try you for murder!! It is always good to be in the position to not have to shoot someone. Harden your home to make unattractive to criminals!!!!

You've taken very courageous steps in identifying a few weak points in in your approach to keeping your family and home secure and making the changes to turn those weak points into strong points to be better prepared. Thanks for sharing this story and your tips on how we all can make our families and homes safer.

As a retired constable who dealt with literally hundreds of burglaries over my career including quite a few caught red handed, I really can't argue with any of your advice, but I will ad a few comments. I live in a rural area and in 30 years of catching these people I never got in a firefight once. I DID pull my weapon all the time, but very few of the perps were armed. Most all were teenagers...the ones that weren't were hard core druggies or felons, caught time and time again, and few, almost none of them were armed. No break-in is typical, all are different and the "unknown" factor is the most dangerous possability. Bad guys hate dogs, get a dog that will bark. The most depressing thing about this sort of crime is the litigation that follows, which can take three years to get a conviction, a good defense lawyer can drag it out forever, can cost the victim more $$$$ than the break in itself, lost time from work while attending court, travel, legal advice, ect. ect. and even then the perps, even repeaters, will probably only get a slap on the wrist. Frustrating. Since the perps are almost always unarmed, you may find yourself with a runner you cannot legally shoot, therefore you must be prepared to get into a scuffle, and handcuffs are handy to have on your person. Less lethal alternatives like a Taser or bean bags might help, you avoid a beating or avoid litigation against you! Good luck watch that nose!

Thanks a bunch. This hit home. I have that "nothing here worth dying for" as my front door mat. I found it soon after having two men steal my (hitch_locked) utility trailer out of my front driveway a few months ago. I also have a camera recording at my front door now. You put me in mind, tho, that I need to get gun certified. I will get that started this week. I have had lessons and I do practice at home but have not fully certified. I am old but can still learn. Glad your family is ok.

It's too bad you had to go through this crap, but I do think it's great that you are using it as both a learning experience for yourself, and an opportunity to educate others. Well done. Also, excellent point about situational awareness. IMO this is a priority in any self defense type situation. If you don't know what's going on around you...you are already at a dis-advantage. Thanks for another good video !

Thanks for the tips! I am currently researching security cameras for my home. One simple inexpensive thing to do is put one 3" screw for every 2 regular around the door hinges and 2 for the dead bolt receiver. Thieves in my area were simple kicking the front doors in and regular screws are very short.

Great video Sootch00, I remember when there were a rash of break-ins in my neighborhood, went down to the gun shop and bought a liberty safe, then after a few years bought another one. The first one weighs about 700 lbs by itself and the recent one I just bought weighs in at 1200 pounds by itself and are bolted down to the floor. Now everytime I leave the house I have a good piece of mind. All firearms are locked in the safe with the exception of my EDC, which is always on me, yes even in the shower it is at an area in which I can get to it in arms reach. Sorry you were broken into, these days it's a crazy world. Always be aware of your surroundings! Love your channel.

There has been an epidemic of break-ins here in my area as well. I do feel pretty confident that we won't be burglarized though. We've got a top notch security system with several yard & window signs, motion activated lights that cover our entire yard, a CCTV system with infrared cameras that cover our entire property as well as inside the house and there is almost always someone at home. (Seriously, it's been more than six months since the last time the house was completely empty.) We even have a normally quiet dog that tends to get really noisy when anyone she doesn't know gets too close, and in the event of a home invasion we're also well armed and have a plan on how to deal with it. The only area that we're really lacking in seems to be our complete inability to convince my stepmother that the threat is in fact real and that she should always keep the door locked and the alarm on even during the day! She's good about doing it once the sun goes down, but she seems to think that daylight makes our area a crime free zone. It's infuriating.

Sorry about the break-in, hope everything will be alright!! I live in Europe (and I'm in Law school) and it seriously sucks I have nothing to defend myself AND be protected by the law if I do have to defend myself when I have to use a tool. I can be a knife collector but I cannot use knives to defend myself, let alone being armed. We are forced to call the police and let the bad guys do whatever they want until the cops arrive and let insurance companies handle the rest. Don't let it come that far over there, exercise your rights and fight for them.

Though I have NEVER been convicted of a crime, he refuses to issue me a CCW. I do not have the funds to hire a lawyer.
