I have "Exercise" on one line and I want "Running" directly below it. But Word will not stop putting an extra empty line between them. Ive turned off double line spacing. Ive turned off all the proofing, i can find. Still an empty line between the words. How would i fix this?

Thanks so much; I'm formatting a very long document for someone and they had used that double spacing (and not consistently, either. Sometimes it was THREE spaces); it was getting annoying to correct them one by one, so this helps a lot.

You can always get rid of most of them by repeating the above tutorial for 3,4,5 spaces. Longer spaces should be big enough to see and notice when proof-reading.

Very helpful! However, I have a problem with my endnotes. A large blank space occasionally appears between endnotes and I cannot remove it. Would you happen to have any suggestions? Many thanks.

Thank you for watching my video! If the blank space only appears occasionally, the first thing I would try is to turn on Show/Hide in the Home tab to see if you have any unwanted formatting or nonprinting characters being inserted below your endnotes. Best of luck!

Control h . Find and replace dialogue box.x has option of endnotes under special tab. Remove all endnotes by single space or nothing.

I would like to add that you should do this a couple of times in the document since there may be more than one extra space between the words. :-)

It is very informative and concise video clip. Thank you. Actually, I have spacing problem between pages. I face unwanted space at the end of the page in large files. Hide or show option shows enter mark but I am unable to delete that enter mark and remove that unwanted space. Is there any command for this problem, please?

Thank you for watching! I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble. One thing to check is your margin sizes. Also, if you are unable to delete the paragraph marks, you can sometimes select them and then reduce their font size to 1pt to reduce the excess space. Best of luck!

That is an interesting question! If you want to delete extra spaces and punctation marks at the same time, you could conceivably add punctuation marks into the Find What text box in the Find and Replace dialog box. However, I think you would have to search for each mark separately (e.g., first do a find and replace for the spaces with a period, then do a separate find and replace for the spaces with an exclamation mark, etc.). @@MoshikoTV2 Unfortunately, Google Docs doesn't currently offer a way to view or find and replace formatting marks. There used to be an add-on called Show that would let you see the marks, but I just tested it and it doesn't seem to work anymore. I do hope Google adds these features in the future. I'm sorry I can't provide more helpful information!

What do I do when I have a huge chunk of white space that is forcing my text to jump to the next page and (a) there are NO hidden paragraphs, spaces, or page breaks revealed by the "show/hide" button, and (b) the spaces between paragraphs are already set to zero, and (c) all the widow/orphan control, keep together, etc. options are already correct. I can't find any formatting reason why I have 40% blank page, but yet there it is.

You have already checked all the common causes of unwanted spaces, so I'm afraid I don't have any specific advice other than perhaps check your bottom margin? I have followed your methods and it says that it has replaced some of the spacing but there is plenty more and no matter what I do it won't correct the spacing in some of the text

If you have already checked to make sure your text isn't set to justified spacing, you may want to see if your document has any nonbreaking spaces instead of regular spacing. With Show/Hide turned on (it looks like a big paragraph symbol in the Home tab), the nonbreaking spaces look like larger, hollow circles.

Hi. When I get to number 10) when putting text in numbers, e.g. 1), 2) 3) etc it automatically creates a space between the number and text, and it carries on with the consecutive numbers (11 12 13 etc). How do you get rid of that space?

My tutorial on finding and replacing special characters explains the process you can use to replace paragraph breaks. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KefKLO2jK-4.html) When you get to the step where you need to select the special character to replace, you will want to choose "Paragraph Mark." Enter is actually the line break represented by ^l. Remove all ^l by single space.

Didnt help me either. Try this: highlight the paragraph that has the extra space, then go to Line and Paragraph Spacing icon, click on Line Spacing Options. Tick the 'Dont add space in paragraphs of the same style.' box. Then OK. This should fix the problem.
