Please be sure to watch all the way through to follow each step before deleting LastPass. I cannot take responsibility for any errors you make during this process. If you want to try 1Password, I'd love it if you use my affiliate link here: www.allthingssecured.com/yt/1password
Hey man! I need some assistance on how to be totally anonymous, many things I still don’t understand. I want to hire you for some advices and to answer me some questions. Let me know how to contact you.
Lastpass won't create a file. It just opens a web page with a bunch of stuff I don't understand. I also don't have a file option in 1password. I'm using a brand new windows pc
I personally migrated to Bitwarden and it honestly feels more secure, Thanks for the tutorial Mr.Summers I needed to completely purge my data from Lastpass!
Just deleted my LastPass account. Thank you for the steps. It turns out you are able to select all of the items in LastPass for the deletion phase and then the purge (remove deleted items phase) if you are doing this on a PC desktop or laptop, select the first item, then scroll down and shift-select the last item and it will select all of the items. Not sure this also works on Mac but it is worth a try. Like many others, I also migrated over to Bitwarden and am enjoying the experience so far. I even upgraded to the family plan so I could share the love with the rest of my family as it was very reasonably priced. I will keep 1Password in mind if I ever want to move from Bitwarden. Thanks again! Awesome stuff.
Thank you for the perfectly timed video. I've put this off too long but didn't know how to get started. I was in the process of deleting items in Lastpass and found a way to select all: Change to the list view; sort by name a-z; select first entry, hit shift and click last entry. They are all checked and can be deleted. This works in the deleted item folder too.
Thanks Josh. I was nervous about leaving Lastpass but this helped and convinced me to make the leap to Bitwarden. Great content with clarity. Keep 'em coming!
For deleting all entry’s, put the view on list view, this will align all the checkboxes on the left, select one, scroll all the way down to the last one, press shift and click the last one, this will select all of the entries!
Great tutorial. Thank you! I migrated to another manager but noticed the attachments I had in LastPass on several entries did not come through. I caught it in time and migrated them manually. For others who have attachments in LP, please verify, as the export from LP does not export attachments.
Thank you for this instruction video! BULK SELECT PASSWORDS for "Step 4 (Optional): Delete Data" (06:17) - you can just hold "SHIFT" and select the first & the last passwords within the vault - it will select everything in between.
EASY SOLUTION TO AUTOMATE THE DELETION OF PASSWORDS :) Thank you for this video! As lots of users out there, I've been utterly disappointed by LastPass because of this breach. If you're like me and have been using lastpass for many years and have hundreds or even thousands of passwords like me (yes ...) then deleting each password 1 by 1 is out of the question but there is a way to automate this. Using Chrome or any browser with a developer console, open the "All items" page as showed at second 6:15 of the video, open the developer console and type: $(".itemCheckbox").click() This will automate selecting all passwords in your vault. Then, at the top of the page, click on Actions > Delete as illustrated in the video at second 6:26 Done in a matter of seconds :) This also works on the screen to permanently delete all deleted passwords as illustrated in the video at second 6:54. Enjoy :)
Haha, I don't have access anymore, but was just going to say someone should be able to post a little code snippet to select all...can you use the $ sign because they are using jQuery?
Wow, a lot of research and details. I have both LP and 1P. LP has a far better search feature (in extensions) than 1P - but I don't like how LP has been compromised. Will be going thru your process and delete my LP acct and save a few $ per year.
Great video! I transferred from Lastpass family to 1Password Family. It put everything in my private vault. I can't figure out how to transfer logins to other family members' private vaults. All I can find in instructions on how to create a shared vault.
I am considering getting the 1Password family put a price of one last pass premium I can get more than just one person I can get three people to get a premium subscription
Really good video. Thank you I had barely signed up for last pass when I heard of a breach but not being very technical I did not know what to do. Thanks again.
@@AllThingsSecured Worked perfect. Did the export/import did fine. Do not have 2fa set up but I will. I am a bit slow but I have to understand what I m doing cause if not it will get messed up LOL. You need a course to teach the basics etc of PC management, Thanks again.
Thank you so much for such a detailed, step by step cancel/delete process of Lostpass. I know of a couple of steps that I might have missed if it were not for your video! I have a QUESTION: How do these companies like Bitwarden, offering Free products stay in business? Unless you are Google then your business model will eventually fail. I hope Bitwarden is around for a while, otherwise I'm going to have to go through this all over again and switch to 1Password. I'm running the Premium version to hopefully insure Bitwarden stays in business for a while.
Awesome help in migrating over to 1 Password, Thank you! One question I have is Last Pass's MFA App. Is it integrated or independent of LP and should it deleted as well? When? Thanks again!
I recently migrated from LP to Nordpass and have now also started using the Yubikey5 NFC thanks to your channel. I really wish I knew how to utilise the keys' slot 2 for Challenge-Response but, I can't find much helpful content on where and when it might be used...
Thanks Josh! If you get a chance to make a Roboform vs 1Password video, that would be great :) Also, what are you using to get that cool popup circle of you? That really looks good!
Btw, you can't even delete the lastpass account anymore. That page is broken. I ended up removing all my data from it instead. Spend about an hour checking boxes and clicking "Delete".
Great vid, just subscribed. I actually went to delete my LastPass account today; when you click on the delete button, nothing happens, a blank box just appears. If you inspect the element you will find a div with an ID of something along the lines of "deletediv" or something and it's display will be set to "none". Disable this and you'll be able to see the text and finally be able to delete your account. Scumbag stuff from LastPass.
Great channel, great content, Thanks Have you done a video that discusses what you need to do to secure a computer from the first time you turn it on? IE from before it is ever connected to the internet and the OS & software updates are applied for the first time? Thanks
Thanks SO much for posting this tutorial! I have a question. If the vault was stolen in the past, and assuming they crack my master password, will they see the vault as it was, or will they access my current vault? If the vault has been deleted following your instructions, will they see the past contents or will it be deleted? Thanks for your time!
There is a good tip for adding privacy security to your computer. Configure your CMOS setup routine to Boot up any linus or ubuntu operating system from a USB key flash drive, and have no harddrive at all in the computer ever. Use encrypted USB key flashdrives for data either kept in your pocket when you go outdoors, or hide them off of the property. When you unplug the USB key drive from the computer there is nothing left on the computer after the ram memory erases in ten seconds.Tgus prevents any Gov agents or police from planting anything illegal on your computer and framing you for it. I do nothing illegal, I just prefer to keep my privacy intact and protected.
Thanks Josh. Do I need to worry about credit card numbers or bank account numbers? I’ve had a super secure master password, and even changed it recently.
Can you make a video on apps like Honeygain, IP Royal and packetstream. is it safe to use them? How to protect ourself from keyloggers. Do we need an antivirus software in 2023 Do reinstalling windows wipes out the malware. What are some viruses that might survive?
Just looked at this and am working on moving things to a new password app. My question is on the 2fa piece -- I use the google's app for auth, and I am wondering if I need to reset them for each site, and if so how? thanks for your feedback.
Good question. Unless you've replicated what is in your authy into lastpass they will probably be separate. In a way, for my own piece of mind, it's a little more redundancy, having a 2fa process/storage like authy (or other 2fa products), that are separate from the password manager itself. Doesn't sit easy in my stomach with the 2fa stored in the same basket as the actual password and account info.
If you are leaving Lastpass, hackers have a copy of your vault so it’s obviously best to get busy changing ALL passwords - I’ve been doing this for weeks.
There IS a way to select all. You can delete all at the same time by choosing the first record, then scroll to the bottom, hold shift, and click the last record. Now use action to delete.
This is what I was thinking. Didn't the vault files get pwned as well? So if someone cracks your master password, they can get in and have access to your passwords stored in there?
Good point. You could probably change passwords to be safe. To my knowledge, while the vaults were accessed, that doesn’t mean that passwords were revealed. The surprising news was that not everything in the vault was encrypted (passwords were).
Note that if you don't have the browser extensions installed (one of the first things I did was to delete them as part of moving off Lastpass), then when you go to Destroy Sessions you'll get prompted to install the extensions again. Just say no! 😁
Pro Tip: You can select all items and deleted in one go! How? 1. Select the List View. 2. Select the checkbox of the first element. 3. Scroll all the way to the bottom. 4. Press and hold Shift and select the last item in the list. 5. Then Use the action menue to delete.
Do you have to be a premium subscriber to be able to export? After verifying export in email, nothing happens when I hit export again in vault. Maybe a browser issue? I am using Firefox.
Curious - I don't use LastPass. I Use 1Password as well but I DO NOT use the Online Version specifically out of fear of a HACK. That is why I do not like how 1Password changed to a Subscription Model. Passwords are something that SHOULD NEVER be stored on someone else's servers REGARDLESS of how much the company CLAIMS their system is secure. Do you think that the 1Password Database (on the local PC/Mac) is safe/secure? In other words, do you think it is possible for someone to hack the computer and steal a copy of my database backup and Brut force it? That is my biggest concern and one reason why I use the Double Blind Password Method you created a video on some time ago.
If you refuse to have your password stored online then why use 1Password at all, why not something open source that has been repeatedly audited for security like KeePassXC?
Was asked to be the research person to find a new password home for my family members and some friends as we all need to depart from LassPass. The wife and I have been watching hours and hours of videos and initially selected 1Password (due to many online recommendations) However the Security Key has been a royal pain in the &&& and neither she nor I can take being locked out again. Is there a good password manager service that has a nice user friendly UI and doesn't have the super frustrating Security key? Much appreciated as I need to get this done and not have everyone hate me
Strictly for Apple users, but how about a look at Minimalist password manager? If you’re fed up with the bloat of 1Password (and others), it’s a great app. Interested to know what you think
After LastPass latest security breach, which seems to get worse, as time goes by it is time to say bye-bye to LastPass. I have been using LastPass for many years, but this the hack is the last straw
I have been using LastPass for the last 3 years due to it being free. 1Password does require a subscription, which I am unable to afford. Is there any other password manager you can suggest?
Bitwarden is free for all the core features (including access across multiple devices). There is a subscription for the report generation features like checking for your email accounts in data breaches for example, but it's not essential.
Hopefully Josh will reply with his recommendation, I myself quite like bitwarden - there is a subscription you can get to it but you get the vast majority of features completely free
The individual premium subscription for Bitwarden is reasonably priced at just $10 USD per year. Like others have said, the free version is plenty for many folks.
export csv from last pass fails for me and lastpass support were unable to understand why. I have now discovered why (I think). The problem probably applies to csv files exported by most password managers. They need to rewrite the export programme to treat commas and new line characters differently I hope this might help someone.I moved to Bitwarden manually ( long and tedious) asI did not know about the web method After a considerable amount of time and effort wasted trying to export lastpass vault data, I worked out why it has been failing (exporting a rubbish csv file) .Unfortunaterly I did not find another way I thought this information might enable you to help others who have had similar problems, The export fails if the vault contains (in notes , passwords etc) any commas or new line characters. (Unfortunately I use comma rather freely.) A CSV file is not a spreadsheet but a txt file that can be converted and displayed as a spreadsheet by a spreadsheet program. The intention is that the resulting CSV file ,when displayed as a spreadsheet, has a different row for each vault entry, with the first column containing the web address (url), column B, the username, column C the password columnD totp; column E the notes (extra). etc. Each row in the spreadsheet should correspond to a single vault entry , In the CSV text file a comma is used to indicate a new 'column in the spreadsheet A new line character (or end of paragraph character. is used to indicate a new row.., so the exported csv file has rows that no longer correspond to vault entries and a note with commas results in several columns for a single note: If therefore a 'cell' in the vault (Such as in the text in a note or a user name) contains a comma, that text is split into 2 columns so all text to the right of the comma appears in the next column, and all subsequent entries are also moved one column to the right. Similarly a new line in a note indicates the start of a new row in the spreadsheet , thus any note with several lines results in a there csv spread sheet with each of the lines starting a new row, with note text in the url column., Or , even better for any password manager to create an export program which recognises the role of commas and new line characters in the ex
How do you remove your credit card and billing info from LastPass? After I canceled the auto-renew it doesn't let me delete that info. What a sleazy company!
You missed the most CRITICAL STEP… after the transfer from Lastpass you must change your passwords. Their breach exposed all vault data to a simple brute force attack in the master password. To be secure with a new provider, YOU MUST CHANGE ALL PASSWORDS. leaving this step out is a critical failure to your viewers.
Lastpass? They lock you to either the PC or Mobile version and for syncing between PC and phone you need to pay for premium. Also they have report things like dark web/data breach checks for passwords in your vault.
It's called the "freemium" business model wherein they offer some functionality for free in the hope that you'll upgrade to the paid version to unlock the full functionality.
@@AllThingsSecured I think Connor meant Bitwarden being free. It was a concern of mine as well as companies don't stay in business long if everything is free - I know I won't work for free LOL!
I didn't realize LastPass had already gotten hacked AGAIN just a few months ago 😫. I have tried so many password managers, and LastPass is the only one I've found that checks all the boxes I'm looking for: 1. Not having to CONSTANTLY re-enter my master password on devices or browsers (I bounce between my phone, laptop, & desktop A LOT) 2. Password fill working on most websites 3. Update vault from any device, including mobile 4. Be very cheap for a single user Point #1 especially seems to only be a feature of LastPass. I will GLADLY give up LastPass if there's another service that still grants me that convenience. Is there one? I really hate having to re-enter my password a dozen times a day like I have with stuff like BitWarden, LogMeOnce, or 1Password, it defeats the purpose to an extent IMO
