First, request a copy of your credit report from the major credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax). Next, review the report for any paid collections and make note of the creditor and account number. Contact the creditor and ask them to update the account status to "paid" or "closed" on your credit report. If they refuse, you can dispute the collection with the credit bureau. Provide them with any documentation proving that the collection has been paid and they will investigate the issue.
