Hope you all enjoy this renovation update and hope any of you planning something similar find me showing my process helpful. Things are moving along again so hoping to have some big transformation videos up soon. :)
Hello, George. Thought I'd share a little story with you. A few months ago a skinny, roughed up, ginger and white stray cat showed up in my yard. Every time he sees me he hisses, but I put out food and water for him twice a day regardless. Two days ago he actually meowed at me for the very first time and I replied, "What a perfect day you chose to have a little chat" which caused him to hiss at me, lol. Sometimes it just takes a bit of time and effort to get where you need to be.....anyhoo, I've named him George.
George, you missed your calling. You should be an interior designer. Everything in your home is what I, and a lot of other people, absolutely love. You're young, it's not to late to fit it in. Give Junior and the baby a pat for me.
I do quite like making the interior design-ish videos on here so might just focus on making more rather than doing a full on career switch haha. And I will indeed pass on the pats.
Me too. My mother is Scottish and that is how she pronounces it. In England we say Fusty. Most Scottish pronounce more “oo” than the English equivalent. But I love accents, particularly my half heritage, Scottish, so it makes me happy.
Love how you chose elements that tie in so well to the rest of the house! I’m just starting the process of designing/decorating a new flat, so I really appreciate the way you calmly describe what feels like a high-stress process, haha
Brilliant video George, and the timing is perfect for us! We've had a hidden leak in the bathroom behind our shower that over the years has rotted away our floor joists and we have to have the whole bathroom ripped out, new joists and floorboards installed and then a complete new bathroom - apparently nothing can be put back in. Just love how you have tackled this project. So much thought has gone into it, and you've given me so many ideas! Thank you! Can't wait to see your finished result :)
It makes me happy that the processes my Grandfather invented for turning marble dust into usable countertops is still in use. (If you are a child of the 70's, at one point in your life, you probably had one of my Grandpa's countertops in one of your bathrooms.)
Really love your choices George, that sage green cabinet is gorgeous and yes I prefer the shower unit you chose. Myself, being a bit extra where interior design is concerned would have done a feature wall with the terrazo tiles, they are just lovely and I think the design is not so busy that they would look out of place if over the whole wall. It all looks really lush.
At this point, I feel like I am way too invested in your house 😅 I saw the green option and my first thought was "that fits with the accent wall in his living room" and then you said exactly that😅 I can't wait to see the bathroom when it's finished 😊
The lighter version is a good decision. Although the darker version is more dramatic, the practical side of me knows that you will see every speck of dust on that charcoal floor tile, as well as water marks. You're going to love being your new bathroom!
What are you planning to do with your unused tile samples? You could get some silicone or rubber feet to stick to the bottom and use them as a hot plate on your table, cut them into four squares for coasters or mini hot plates, or cut them in half and have two long "bread boards" ... one for bread, the other for cheese. Love being creative with castoffs! ❤😊
Love the bathroom design and Crosswater fixture selection. Terrazzo tile is a nice touch. Awaiting your fantastic building team to complete the magic. Good video thanks.
I enjoyed watching your design process. Totally agree that the light colours are best - timeless, spacious feel - and love the choice of sage green. It is important to tie in some colours throughout the home. I happen to have sage green in my kitchen which I carry through using textiles to other parts of my home, including sage green towels in the bathroom. Can’t wait to see your finished bathroom.
I read through many comments and it makes me happy to see that EVERYONE is kind , positive and complementary -- I believe you deserve that kind of treatment . As an American , one of the MANY qualities of yours I enjoy immensely is your beautiful accent . I could listen to you for hours . Love the bathroom overhaul design -- looking forward to the final reveal . Love to the felines !!! 🐱❤🐾
Oh good, you're back. 😉 Once again, you have the supreme honour of being added to today's Do List. Always a brighter day when I get your example of chill to follow. Thanks!
Sign your name and the year inside the wall on a stud or something. This way years down the road when a different owner comes along who decides to gut the bathroom, they can find an interesting piece of history and a name to cuss at for the design choices you made! LOL I just went through renovating one of my bathrooms and the messages I and the contractors left behind the wall should bring a good laugh to the next poor sucker that decides to gut it.
Patchy! I sure do appreciate your content and methodology in presentation. As a business consultant…I recognize your business consulting talent! Great job!
Hey George, sponsorship is the way to go! That's your entrepreneuerial spirit that steers you in that direction. I'm just loving your ideas so much. The demolition of your bathroom is what made me cringe, but I know it was necessary to avoid future surprises. The smaller shower is a bettet idea because it's alot easier to maintain clean. The convenience of having your ideas come to life using the tools of the internet is a breath of fresh air. I so look forward to your next YT video.😅❤😊
I'm in the process of planning a remodel of a large primary bathroom. My current shower feels like a coffin. When I bend down wash my feet, my bum hits the wall. I agree there could be potential issues extending the shower size, but I'd risk it for more space. I'm making my new shower a lot larger. Great video!
Aw no that doesn't sound good haha. A big part of my risk aversion here is just wanting to get the renovation done so I can fully move in. Having a longer shower tray wasn't worth even a 1% risk of the wall removal causing problems that would require more time and money.
I love your new bathroom layout. Great color choices. I love how you share your thoughts and process. It makes perfect sense. Thank you for sharing. See you in the next one.
Agree, it is going to look amazing. Excellent point about needing Junior's approval! Just one important question - will the litter trays be going into the new bathroom?
Ex interior design industry person, So many people have metal feature panels fitted in their kitchens and bathrooms, they get glued in, WHOOPS! More designers need to design things to be removable and serviceable. So if the metal, wood, brass, stainless etc.. needs polishing or fixing, it can be removed. Enjoyed hearing about your process. I get regular calls from people wanting feature panels fixed, but they are glued in... :( oh well. Most taps are plated nonsense.. get stainless steel or brass Solid, not plated. In the long run you'll be glad. Amazing how many people get a shower unit fitted behind the wall and don't incorporate an access location!! YES REALLY. Sustainable, not plated, not coated, not mdf, etc.. noticing the theme.. if it ain't the solid finished actual material don't do it. Even if it's a rental. Removable, serviceable, re-finishable.. means easily fixed at low cost. Any design company that permanent fixes things into place is not to be trusted because they havent thought their process through.
i’m absolutely feral for content creator home renovation/redesigns. FERAL i tell you. keep at it Patchy i’m excited to see the finished bathroom remodel!
Love the design you chose for your bathroom, George. So glad you chose the lighter version. My landlords recently renovated my bathroom and put in a black floor. I hate it. It always looks dusty, even after I've washed it. So I'd say you made the best choice. Looking forward to seeing your lovely bathroom completed. ♥♥♥
So glad you chose the light tile look to go with, especially after seeing the comparison. The vanity & color, perfection.👌 You have such good taste, it shows throughout both homes, 3 actually if you include the cat mansion. Great watch as always.
Fantastic! I love the Scandi/Mid Century look you have going in your house. I'd probably choose terrazzo that has smaller coloured bits, closer together
Early bird catches the video. And it could've been nice, but I just don't want to start getting experimental with the renovation at this stage. I just want to be done, moved in, and singing in the shower.
I will be redesigning my tiny bathroom in about 3 years time ( I have other renovation projects to do first). This is a really useful guide, thank you. This video is getting stored away for re watching nearer the time! Your bathroom looks fantastic btw.
That's going to be a beautiful bathroom! I love the sage green. When I viewed my apt before renting it it was a lovely sage green but on move-in day I discovered the landlord had insisted on the walls being returned to their former grayish color. So disappointing! Funny thing, I liked the contrast with the dark tiles in the rendering but I totally get the reason you chose the lighter tiles. I love light, too.
Hi George , lovely selection of products you have made , you did not mention what type of door you intend using for entry to the bathroom , two years ago , we did a total renovation of our home and in the bathroom and ensuite we opted to use barn doors , avoids losing space in your bathroom , we fitted our doors to the exterior wall , look very stylish , all the best with the renovation .
What a gorgeous design, George! Absolutely love it and very inspiring for our own bathroom renovation which we'll hopefully get to/afford one day.. Keep up the awesome work and keep the videos coming. :-)
