OMFG!!! Yes!!! Thank you!!! I haven’t understood the draw of Sonic Youth since 1988!! It mystifies me and people who hear me trash them get IRRATE. I simply say, I’m gonna de-tune my guitar, bang on the strings while holding Suss and minor chords... drone out some haiku and call myself Sonic Youth. People lose they minds. These pedals would exponentially authenticate the SY liberal arts major dropout sound!!! Thank you for showing me the light!!
It’s like Devin Townsend says when he’s discussing a bass player’s mindset: “You wanna wank solos and go crazy on the guitar, that’s fine, but until I change my mind, we’re in C.”
NeverGrowingUp NeverGettingOld if you ever want to sell it I could take it off your hands. It’s currently the pedal that bit crushes my dreams and arpeggiates my nightmares.
@@nevergrowingupnevergetting7352 man I understand, but once you get a feel for it, it’s so fun. Hell most of the time I have the sequencer off and just use the Bits, because they sound so gnarly. One thing I did was buy an OBNE signal blender and put the ottobit through there because that’s the one downside for me on that pedal, that you can’t mix in your clean tone
Literally always the best snare sound in every video y’all do. I always show up for the guitar sounds but when the snare comes in I only care about that. STOP HAVING THE GREATEST SNARE SOUND SO I CAN PAY ATTENTION TO THE GUITAR! damn.
I built a fuzz factory clone as my first pedal build / only fuzz pedal and I love not being able to tell whether it sounds insane because I messed it up or because it's an insane pedal to begin with. All kinds of destruction coming out of that thing.
Man oh man. That music was like listening to the lost recordings that didn’t make it onto any Butthole Surfers album, after having “accidentally” taken waaay too much cough syrup while drifting in and out of a fever dream.
You somewhat beat me to the punch. I was going to suggest that Steve Austin - The Six Million Dollar Man, was playing a Theramin, while going through colonoscopy prep.
Can I just point out that "Maggötör" sounds suspiciously close to "meggyötör" which, incidentally (?) means "torment" in Hungarian... an aptly named pedal that one is.
Jhs almost went Death Metal on us in this episode😅 . I just loved every second of this fun showcase of weird pedals. I am actually interested in the Death by Audio. They make fxs that with tweaking and other fx combination, could make me an old dude actually land on planet Mars due to a worm hole or transportation to the Enterprise. Loved every jam song too. Imagine all the creative fun the JHS team is having. That will cultivate some great fxs ideas in the future. Live long and prosper.🤘
This reminds me that I need to pull out a “fuzz” box I build from GetLoFi: it is a simple circuit with two transistors that feedback into each other... I’ve been able to listen to the radio through it.
If only you could have brought back Frank Zappa as a “Guitar Destroyer” guest for this episode! Oh, man! That’d be awesome!! Have you ever resurrected a human being, Josh? It can’t be that much harder than bringing back a dead pedal...can it? 🤔
I just want to say your drum sounds are always amazing! I know you're a guitar pedal company (I have some, they are awesome) ... but you should show how you get good sounds for these videos! And - way cool weird pedal sounds, too. Lovely!
Me looking at my modular synth: “You say destroy, I say improve”. The Ottobit sounds like something Hendrix used on Are You Experienced? “So What’Cha Want?” Is favorite Beastie track.
Another quality JHS educational program there. I have been looking into getting a bit crusher but didn't know EHX did one...also got to know I should use tiny baby hand to manipulate any springs attached to my pedal. Keep up the good work professor.
Got into the Beastie Boys about three years ago whenever the book was released... now love them. Really enjoying Paul’s Boutique at the moment - particularly Shadrach
Josh, you were but a wee laddie, five years old, 6'1", when those Beasties dropped but I can picture you throwing cheese slices on all the windows, rocking your Mardi Gras beads like gold chains, turning the TV upside down, and your parents walk in to see you scream: "It was like that when I got here."
I don't think I've ever commented on here before, but the Super Weirdo section... in particular the zoom-in on the drummer's face... has taken this already awesome show to another level. Also, the changes in graphics and timing before the second explosion in each GUITAR DESTROYED made me LOSE IT. I am so happy right now.
What I like about this channel is Josh's simple honest evaluations of other makers products, instead of just pushing his own. It's refreshing to see a pedal builder acknowledge the good stuff his own competitors make. I especially like the excursions into the budget stuff like Joyo, Donner, Behringer, Sonic cake, (usually clone makers) ... A lot of those pedals sound like playing through an amp with blown speakers. I know, ever since the day I blew the speaker in my older brothers 1966 Fender Princeton Reverb, doing my Jimi Hendrix imitation, back in the day. I knew I was in big trouble and gonna get my arse kicked. lol Someone should make an "Ass Kicked" pedal.
I LOVE that second one! Ive been wanting to find something like that shorting-out static-y sound frome the end of nine inch nails' "Ringfinger." Awesome!
This is my favorite JHS Show vid to date. I'm a pretty conventional player, but I love to hear someone who gets cool sounds out of bitcrushers, hyperglitch fuzz, and cray-cray delay. By the way, love the Beasties. I can listen to Paul's Boutique top to bottom any time any place. I also love their instrumentals collected on "The In Sounds from Way Out".
One of my guitars fell off its stand while I was watching this. It obviously couldn't handle the stress of all the DESTRUCTIONS! (Monster truck, Fireworks, cannon,Volcano)
That was so damn wild! I loved this video, I'd give it two thumbs up if I could! I've been wanting an Echo Dream 2 forever now. I'm so getting one. You're the best, man.
I always thoroughly enjoy these videos, but the pedals in this are my favorites y'all have demonstrated. Something new! Something other than "clean, beautifully sculpted thought-out guitar tones."
Death by Audio - Echo Nightmare. That's the sound score you'd use when the "Evil BB8" gets drunk on Jaba the Butthurt's gambling barge, falls over the side and gets eaten by the offspring of the Sarlacc. I love how it's death rattle drags on long after its fallen into the corpse filled maw of the beast. Priceless!!!!
