I did the chalk test long ago, marked a tire before I took my car to the dealer for service (do myself now) for oil change and tire rotation. I get the invoice, says perform tire rotation $29.99, yet the tire I marked (inside wall) with chalk was still on the rear passenger side. I say to the dealer manager “are you sure they did a rotation”, he says “yes”, I say “see that chalk mark there ? I put it there when I dropped the vehicle off this morning”. Then the “Oh, let me make sure they did the rotation, sorry” and took the vehicle back and did the rotation, as I looked through the window between the waiting area and service area. Thieving pricks.
It’s hard to pick a favourite, but the the video of you going off road in Minden was great, can’t wait to see you run the trail with the new tires and lift!
Hey Steve, That Minden video was nice. I have a big trip planned for this summer that motivated me to do the lift and tires. Good luck in the draw. Cheers.
Hey Dino, what a surprise, I made it in your video... 😁😁😁 CONGRATS for your 4K subs!!! Keep your great tips and I am sure it will go 40, 400... Many of my builds and mods are crafted from your videos and I find your tips fantastic... Of course, the entire series on sleep platform qualifies for my favorite !
Hey Rich, We've used it a few times, and i love that it is comfortable, functional, and economical. I've heard from a lot of viewers that have made their own from this video. I plan on an update video with a couple mods. Cheers.
Congratulation on your 4000 subscribers, my favorites are “Jeep camping sleeping platform.” I used your diagram and took it to the Home Depot and made my platform!
Hey Clyde, That’s awesome! That rear shelf comes in very handy when we camp. We cut it the size I mention in the video, but you can make it any size you like. If you make it a little larger, it will cover the entire cargo area. I’ll be making a sleeping platform “Mods” video soon. Cheers.
I really enjoy all your videos. The one stand out for me was the windshield defroster issue. I would love to see a follow up with how you fixed it and how well it worked over the winter.
Hey Nigel, I'm glad you found them helpful. I have a complete rotor and brake pad replacement video coming up too. You are in the draw. Good luck. Cheers.
On stock wheels on a stock Sahara JL, that would work. If you go to oversized tires, I'd recommend the Chalk Test to ensure proper inflation, so your tire tread wear will last longer. Cheers.
With the chalk test, it needs to be understood that this is subject to change with outside temps. What was a good chalk test when you completed it, will change if it’s 80 plus degrees outside and sunny and you go for a drive. The tire pressure will increase substantially while driving, ultimately ruining the chalk test. The chalk test is really a baseline.
Some issues...the tire pressure warning will be on if you run the tires at 30psi. You will also decrease your fuel mileage and it will adversely effect your vehicles handling especially at freeway speeds. Don’t think the trade off is worth running them slightly deflated...
Hey Dune, Thanks for sharing the issues related to switching to larger tires. I used the ProCal Snap to adjust the tire pressure alert threshold. Cheers.
Hey Kelly, That's great. We love ours. Very effective and economical. I plan an update video soon, with some modifications, as shared by others. Good luck in the draw. Cheers.
I wonder if the powder form of athletes foot spray would work. It’s a trick golfers use to see where they are striking the ball on the face of their driver.
In the morning, when the tires are cold, the air pressure in the 4 tires would be consistent and even. You can use the cool tires to determine which pressure in the tires gives you an even wear patch. The temperature variations in the course of the day may not be significant to worry about. However, as seasonal temperature variations occur, you may want to deflate(summer) or inflate(winter) the tire pressures to maintain the tire pressure you determined during your chalk test to maintain the even wear patch. I hope that helped.
Hey TargetOz, It’s not a silly thing to mention at all. I guess by the time one drives to a mall parking lot to do the chalk test, the tires would be warmed up anyway. It would have been a good thing to have mentioned in the video though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers
@@CheaperJeeperTV Another question if you don’t mind, once you air down or up to get even “chalk wear” how do the tyres go for wear in the long term? Obviously if you run under inflated tires they wear pretty quick but over inflated tires is that just as bad as under inflated for premature wear?
I’ve only run under inflated a few times off road. Not enough to cause significant wear. I also do a five tire rotation of the tires every 5 000 miles. Even though I have a lot of miles on the Jeep, the wear on my tires seems very good. I still have lots of tread left. I don’t overinflated them as that would cause increased wear along the centre of the tires.
Congratulations on the 4000 subscribers. Honestly, this is my favourite Jeep related channel. You always seem to be one step ahead of me, regarding the care of my Jeep. That's fine by me! My fav vids are the ones you did about changing the different fluids. Always great content!
I think you might have used the tread depth gauge incorrectly. You definitely should reset it for each measurement. For resetting, I think it's supposed to be fully extended instead setting it to zero. This should reduce the impact that your finger might have pushing on the gauge. Also I have BFG TAKO2s, and I have to inflate them to max pressure to get them to wear evenly.
My favorite video is how to construct a sleeping platform! I have a 2-door 2006 TJ Wrangler and am looking forward to making adjustments to make this work for my Jeep! I just discovered your channel and love all the great content!
Hey Kelly, Thank you for the feedback on the channel. Adapting the sleeping platform for a TJ would be an awesome project. I'm glad you are finding some of the episodes helpful. Good luck in the draw. Cheers.
Your winch install is still my favorite video. This one is a close second, simple but extremely practical. Take a few minutes and extend the life of those expensive tires. Congrats on 4K
The sleep platform is my favorite. Look forward to your update on the mods for the platform from you & your subscribers. Congrats on the 4000 subsribers!
Oil and fluid change video is my favourite. Can you do a video on the performance of your Jeep since the lift and new tires? Curious to see the variance in performance vs. the stock set up. Keep up the great work!!!
Great video. While this works for most tires I found that the Milestar Patagonias that I run are very hard to chalk test and get full contact with the ground. Come to find out they are designed to run more on the center of the tire than the full contact of the tire. Helps reduce noise for that design. Anyone using Patagonias or looking at getting them do some extra research and rotate them every 3000 miles.

Hey Charlene, I was new to Jeep when I bought my 2018 JL. I made a bunch of videos to share what I’ve been learning along the way. Feel feee to check them out. Cheers.
I loved the camper build videos! I made the sleeping platform the week the video came out and it’s way better than a $700+ sleeping platform. I’ve used it every time I go camping and even when I’m not! Also at $50 and some change this is an Unbeatable build and video for me! Keep up the great work!
Speaking of air pressure so you set tires when cool but highway driving the rises, so what is safe PSI you start with 36 PSI how high should they go when driving on highway for 2 to 3 hundred miles ??
