Cracked me how many sparkies do not have a good understanding of your PIE chart & the E over I times R chart. Worst is guys who think if you connect say a 1200 watt heater that's rated for 240 volts to 120 volts it would use 600 watts. Nope Not today or any day. Would only use 25% of the rated 1200 watts = 300 watts. If you reduce the voltage on a heater you cut the wattage by 75%.

I am eager to acquire knowledge and embark on a successful career as an electrician. Although I lack practical experience in this field, I am highly motivated and dedicated. I do not have any connections or acquaintances in the industry, so I would greatly appreciate any assistance in identifying reputable companies that offer electrician apprenticeship programs. If you are acquainted with any such companies, kindly inform me. Sacramento california

7:31 Rather than using a 30A brk, 10awg wire to wire those 50 fixtures, just use 240V instead of only 120v. This way, you will drop the current (A) by half, and downsize your wires to 12awg on 20A brk. ( Trick 'O the trade ) 😉
@KevinCoop1
@KevinCoop1 5 месяцев назад
Not only will you cut the amps in half, but you will blow the 120 volt rated lamps. He is talking about incandescent for simplicity.

Can i put a 30 amp braker on a 12 2 wire?
@gmoneyyp90
@gmoneyyp90 3 месяца назад
No because your 30amp breaker is allowing or has the capacity to allow higher temperature (more voltage passing through without detecting an overload within that circuit with using gauge (12), and would end up frying, melting, and/ or causing a fire to that entire circuit at any point w the device you’re using to draw (said energy/ power/ wattage). But suppose your device worked fine and never over heated or in Electrical Terms draw more power to the level of hazard but you decided to leave one day. You’d leave behind a fire hazard to an unknowing person. Its a violation to Code but just a violation in general I’d say. Safety First you’re probably getting away with it based on that 20% cushion implemented in every device, as per manufacturer requirement along that circuit starting at the breaker. In your scenario I can only think of the wire melting and breaking off somewhere making contact, melting through the junction box and causing a fire burning an entire building.

Would you know how to explain 3phases PIE calculations??
@Unotch
@Unotch 5 месяцев назад
3LPE: The load is I/sqr(3)*cos phi. So you divide Amps by 1.73 and ignore cos phi because you take it as a safety margin. Then you need a fitting curve (C-curve for example) for the type of load on your breaker. The curve tells how fast it will trip, so if you have a big initial load, adjust.
@Unotch
@Unotch 5 месяцев назад
PS: So if you have a 18.5 kW fan on 3x400 VAC you divide 18500 by 400 to get the amps, then divide by 1.73 to get the amps per line. You end up with 27 (always round up) so you can use a 3x32A LTS with a C-curve becase the frequency inverter you are (hopefully) using never permits over 100% nominal load. Savvy?

@thugpug4392
@thugpug4392 2 месяца назад
@hollowlife1987 it is true but in an AC circuit the opposition to current flow is called impedance and must be calculated in a different way. It's just the nature of their differences. AC changes directions at a certain frequency and DC is directional.

@thugpug4392 right but the basis remains the same doesn't it? Z=V/I
