Truth is undeniable , ugly and hurtful but when one looks in the mirror they have to look in the mirror and see themselves for who they truly are I believe you achieved a mountain of a goal by beating your drinking drug addiction so I would like to compliment you on that achievement and I would like to share something with you the biggest lie that we have been told is that we we die our souls are everlasting our body dies and at that moment the soul extracts all the information from the body to learn from it to get the experience and knowledge. I'm sure you've been told that you have free will the only one that's can affect your free will without your permission is your soul we're taught to fear death at all costs and we never truly diebecause imagine a world if everybody knew this for sure people would be uncontrollable in a good way just they would do what they want to do instead of what keeps them safe the truth is kept from us because you can't have control without a certain level of fear ☮️out

Thank you so much You're such a man of God I'm a catholic from Ireland and your religion is actually more Jesus s teaching but back then the world rejected Jesus and going forward We ve lost sight of Jesus and have become judge mental so we re rejecting Jesus too He gave us some wonderful examples in his parables just readings the new testaments Jesus went against the powers of the times and represented the poor and struggling people and saw the terrible way they were treated That's why he was put to death and died a shameful horrendous death ?? But he left a huge legacy to the whole world by his suffering and death he showed God the Father his love for us all and Christianity grew Praise be Jesus Christ Praise be God the Father

Holy moly! Yes! All of this. Everything is so valuable to help develop emotional wisdom. My favorite tip is about including the other person in the language. It is such an important thing to help strengthen the bond between people. I have seen and felt this with my son, who is 14. By making a point to more consistently include both he and I in my statements to him, especially when he started ignoring me and not wanting to talk with me as much, it has made him more chatty and interactive with me. I will also bring him little surprises randomly that I know he likes, like his favorite slush, something sentimental, or gift him freedom from having to unload the dishwasher. It has helped so much. Raising a teenager has challenges, but doing these things have helped so much.

Hi Nick, it's great to see your video. Guess what? :) I am right now in Thailand and joined the meditation retreat at Koh Samui. It was because I was inspired by you. I think few month back I had mentioned in one of your video as comment, that my wife decided to separate after being married for 21 years. It has been a blow to my emotions as well as financially. But you have been my strength and guiding star. I feel much better, although the pain and anger has not gone completely. It's hard for me, especially knowing that I loved and trusted this person so much. I just wanted to say thank you, and I just love your video. I will be flying back to Seattle next week and start a new life. This was my first trip to Thailand and just fell in love with this place. Thai people are amazing, even they are so poor but they always smile and happy. I guess, there is lot to learn from them.

AWWWW. Of course I remember you. Thank you for taking the time to post this. I'm happy to hear things are moving along and you are stepping out of your comfort zone. This post is so beautiful. It gave me chills reading it and made me tear up simply because my heart goes out to you. I've been in that position before and I understand the burden that it comes with. I'm extremely proud of you. I'm very happy that you got to go to Thailand. The people really are beautiful like you said. I'm glad your heart is softing and slowly healing. I was just typing out a comment to another viewer a few minutes ago in another post, but really what you are doing is taking steps to EMPOWERING yourself. It's beautiful to watch from the outside and just know I'm cheering for you from a distance. Sending you good wishes my friend. Save up money and come back to Thailand again. Make the time and space to get quiet everyday :)

I had to leave a relationship that meant material things were changing. I was so afraid to pay my own bills and support myself. If I had only known it's worth it to lose everything to be in a place of peace and confidence in myself. I have actually done better financially because my energy flows from my tranquility and peace. I also realized that simple and smaller home is wonderful. You will eventually enjoy life with less money and things.

The true greatness of this channel is that Ven. Nick demonstrates wisdom in action. He knows that our own experiences have brought us to this moment in our life journey. His talk is to the point with kindness, showing images and sounds of people and nature. He respects individuals' abilities by giving us time and space to glimpse what he practices. Each of us carries emotions or feelings stored in our body (and subconscious), based on the physiology we are born with and the experiences that mold our physiology over time. Practicing silence, stillness, meditation, observation, and precepts are useful modalities that can bring us in touch with ourselves and bring us greater clarity in our perceptions of reality. These practices are some ways to wash the dust off the windshield of our minds. We can use these practices to upgrade our own openness and awareness to see ourselves in the clearest possible light... During our sitting practice. During any given moment in life as it arises. So that we too can give space to ourselves and others... To observe life more clearly... To allow us to see and shift our behaviors for the benefit of all. Last Saturday, I read Nick's book, "The Buddhist Cleanse: The One-Day Spiritual Detox". The next day, I lived the Buddhist Cleanse. Very useful to allow the individual to experience and determine its usefulness. It empowers us with the space to see for ourselves. Thank you, Ven. Nick! BTW, the week before I did the "cleanse", my emotional state had become very depressed due to the stressors of our covid times. I questioned whether I'd be able to bounce back from long work hours that had led me to diminished focus and life balance. My prior boss was gone and desks near mine were now empty. My boss and his boss were new to the company and still learning. We had twice the workload due to the pandemic. We were the "lucky survivors". Finally, last weekend, in serious need of revitalization and self-confidence, I read a post from another of Ven. Nick's followers posted a mention of the Buddhist Cleanse and how it helped him. This motivated me to read the book in a couple of hours (short read), gather my resolve, and do it the following day. Speaking from my experience... It helped renew my sense of purpose and confidence in my abilities, to be more present with everyone including my husband, cats, and coworkers. To prioritize my sleep. To pay attention to when and what I eat. To exercise even when it's cold and cloudy. To do some major housecleaning (chop wood, carry water). I'm deeply grateful for all I have and for love.

The first new thing i learn today is to be brave and ask honest feedback to get a better connection rather than making a fantasy that other people like me. The second is i ask my inner child just now, should i mend my relationship with my old friend that i stop contacting, and the little me told me to forgive and start talking to that friend. There are a lot to digest and practice, hopefully i can do these tips constantly. Thank you, Bhante 🙂
@leahc8347
@leahc8347 3 года назад
@@varianilin9539 Most honest feedback when coming from a loving place even it is critical, often wont hurt as much if its not judgemental, even it does cause remorse to hear and a true heart will want to hear, but Im abit concerned if you say you have to be brave if what you are hearing from someone is not coming from a loving place, rather than just worrying you might be bruising your ego. Be decerning only you know . Also our inner child wants friends and want to forgive, BUT be very careful if you are overlooking self respect if this person in perticular hurt or disrespect you, hasnt apoligised or respected your emotions, you dont have to forgive by staying in contact if it is not healthy (working for your souls purpose) ;you can forgive from afar. Good friends are important. They are meant to uplift you. Search for that, lifting up your needs and who you are, is important for flow and happiness. Peace is not just a forgiveness of a friend by turning a blind eye, just mentioning this. Be decerning. Peace

I was brought up with being very respectful to my elders or everyone. But in this day the younger generation isn't like this. I'm not saying everyone, but kids younger than me tell you point blank what they think and how they feel. They don't care how it comes out or who it hurts. These videos that you share Venerable Nick I wish kids can see it and learn from it.

Right now my heart feels so big, that it could jump out of my chest - simply because I can relate so much to what you are talking about. Get feedback is what I miss the most nearly every where - it newer realy come to my mind, that I can ask myself. The two person language I for sure will try to be much better to. The things you talk about I know but the way you talk, the excampels you give makes me understand in a new way. Thank you so much and thank you for your laugh, sharing and time. )(

In my life experience (hitting 70 years!), I have been emotionally wounded many times. I have been mocked or insulted or ridiculed or shamed or rejected or bullied for aspects of my appearance (knobby knees, bald spot, skin "whiter than the belly of a fish", you name it), comparatively poor physical performance, being socially awkward, etc. In every case the meanness of others has come out of the blue, often from someone with whom I am barely acquainted (or a school teacher or a work associate or a woman I am interested in meeting). I have never reacted violently or with threats. Mostly I have ignored the meanness of the others and just let it pass. However the wounds have stayed with me. I carry a great deal of shame and sorrow (i.e. loneliness, alienation, and wishing for what might have been). Part of that shame is because I feel I have not "stood up for myself" in these situations. I try to have balanced healthy relationships, but it is hard to come up with a mindful response to abrupt targeted meanness on the spur of the moment. So at 35:30 I was hoping for some "emotional wisdom" as to what a monk would do in response to put downs and personal insults. Also, how to heal my emotional "battle scars"? Any thoughts?

I have a lot of respect for your honesty. I'm commenting not because I have an answer, but because I'm impressed that you are able to hold yourself calmly through insults and sly remarks. I think that takes more strength than insulting the person back and giving them a reaction. I hope you find clarity on this problem, but I would also take the time to appreciate that you never gave in to that anger and lost it whenever people insult you.

I could relate with everything you said in your post. I’m also close to your age. It’s hard to believe that people feel so free to insult and put us down, and we’d not been assertive enough to have a quick reply to put these people in their place and make them learn how to treat us better. Let’s hope and pray, that the passing of time would make us become more assertive and put boundaries to people who are rude. There’s still time to teach people how they should treat us - that is, with respect. God bless!

I think you can use the tips on 24:46 and ask your inner child about this. Sometimes i imagine my younger self who face an unpleasant situation and give her my presence, my smile and my hug. I imagine more mature me hugging the vulnerable me. I've experience sexual harassment by strangers on the street or in swimming pool and this suffers me a lot, i thought i should've found a rock and throw it to him. That i should've stand for myself. But i never met these strangers anymore. My anger lasted for years and i try to find answer to deal with this too. Here is what i do to soothe my feelings : when i feel angry, i try to bring it to awareness, to feel it, be aware of it and practice breathing in and out. I say to myself : "hi, anger, you come again, stay as long as you need to and i will take care of you. " After that, surprisingly, i don't feel so angry anymore. (I read this tip from a book about Anger by Thich Nhat Hanh) I have a wound, also anger of why people did such a rude thing to me. But i put down the questions of why people hurting me (i won't find any satisfying answer for this), and focus on healing my pain. I try not to bite but i am also learning how to hiss right back to the people who is rude. That it's okay to hiss. 💚

@amandeepbaghiana Can't agree more, maybe he saw it as "i didn't stand up for myself". As it is a weakness, but actually he is stronger than that, he didn't hurt back! 💚

Thank you for this wonderful presentation. Would love to see a K-12 curriculum in the West on emotional wisdom and self-compassion. I see more often young people in my life being taught meditation or breathing exercises by public school teachers, which is a start. After decades of swinging between anxiety and depression, I finally learned how to shift my energy and observe myself to prevent these cycles. For example, when I become aware my heart is contracting and I lean toward depression, I know it is time for me to give to someone in some way. If I have no money, I pray for someone who is suffering. I also learned to go to the natural world for healing, nurturing and restoration. Nature can compost our emotions and just as we need Earth, Earth appreciates our compassionate presence.

Thank you for your time creating this video, the material has really helped me over the last few days and is enabling me to connect with my true nature and true self; a lesson which comes round to me every few years that reminds me, "hey, you need to recharge your heart, balance your emotions, honour your soul and calm your mind". One point I found really useful that you spoke about is using language that includes more than one person. I tried to practice this point in this comment, so let me know how I did.

Yet another amazing journey you have sent me on Nick. Two big take aways for me was changing language to include others. Funny enough I do this but not my spouse and realise how upsetting that can be and how hurtful I feel when I see him type or say me, I etc. My other was the direction I need to take in guiding someone through deep traumatic pain....forgiveness. Not that they have to forgive themself but they are still carrying the pain for over 20 years.
