WOW! This guy gives such a great class... The communications ability is so straight forward yet very complete. Great job taking the extra steps to explain (quickly and concisely) all the key words/terms so that those of us with very limited automotive knowledge and skills could still nonetheless, after your quick explanation and demonstration, complete the task with relative easy... THANK YOU! Please keep making videos, you're outstanding at it!!!

I had a hunch and you confirmed that a faulty fan switch could also keep fans continuously running. Though my coolant temp maintained between 185-195 degrees with my fan running continuously, I guess the only problem I could eventually see is shortening the fan life.

I changed my thermostat twice (was told I put the wrong one in the first time), now I noticed this in my car, also it is GM and from googling this, it seems to be a typical GM problem. Gonna have to look into this closely. Great video! Subbed!

Ry the car guy My car does the same thing, but the fan does not turn on until it reaches 198F, then the fan turns at high speed and it will never shut off unless i turn the engine off. I have a mustang gt 2007. Can it be the cylinder temperature sensor? When i turn the ac, the low speed fan turns on as it should, and when i turn the ac off, the low speed fan shuts off, which seems right.

Just had this with my car changed the 2 temperature sensors fan was still on. Then changed the resistor. Fan was still on. Bought a new thermostat comes complete with housing unit £17.89 of eBay stuck that in myself pure easy 3 bolts. Seems to have done the trick. My fans off. Warning light is off car running like a dream. You also have to top up coolant so buy 2-3 litres as you lose almost all of it when changing the thermostat. X

Good video.. I am having the same problem with a 2003 Ford Thunderbird. However, my temp gauge sits right were it always has since the car was new.. You didn't address what your temp gauge was doing.. Did it show the car as erroneously running hot? I have a scanner so my next check will be watch the temp on it. This problem started after I added a can of R134 to the A/C. Could that be related and perhaps I overfilled it?

@@Platinumtag first of all I'd like to thank u for your reply ! if what you speak of is the nature of my problem then the radio would also stay on indefinitely. correct ? if the radio turns off then the problem lies elsewhere. correct ? now the fan always stayed on a while after I turn off the ignition. but now the fan will only stop when there is no more juice in the battery. it leads me to believe the problem lies with either : - the resistance is no good - the relay is no good - the temperature sensor is no good am I right to think this way ?

@@jaimedelgado7529 yes if radio turn off and fan stay on its not the retain power relay. Could be fan relay stuck on, on position, pull a relay to see which one turns of the fan. If you have been running/driving the vehicle (2014 Caravan), with the A/C or heat on to the rear and then you turn off all climate controls and temp to medium (no heat no cold) and then turn off the vehicle, but then it sounds like something is still running in the rear, maybe a fan for the rear heat/ac, how long should that run for before it stops? The fan actually behaves properly when the engine is running. Any ideas ? Note: I had been looking at my main fuses in the engine compartment prior to the car wash for a prior issue of the alarm doing off randomly and neglected to put the cover on before closing the hood and going to the car wash. Hey man help me out here if you will. I have a 1998 Lincoln Continental and I replaced the radiator. Added coolant and removed all air bubbles so that's done. But now I've noticed that after replacing the fans, they stay on constantly even when the engine is at normal operating temperature. Before the job, they would run a while after I turned off the AC. Now they stay on even when I don't have the AC or heater on. What is going on? I've noticed a leaking sensor that is between the exhaust manifold and the engine oil filter. Any ideas on what's going on? They do turn off how ever when i turn the car off. They only turn on during driving and stay on until I turn the car off.

I changed 2 years ago the temperature sensor and the fan turns on 2 lines after 90°, since a few weeks the rpm drops and almost turns off the car. But I noticed that the fan turns on just passing 90° not as it worked before, I think rpm drops because the fan wants to turn on. Do you think it could be the temperature sensor who is causing the trouble again?

Our PT Cruiser fan runs on high all the time after an engine overhaul but only after starting, it stops again as soon as the key is turned off. I swapped the relays out and they are not the problem. The power runs to the fan as soon as the engine starts through the wiring that runs to it, I disconnected the connectors and it stopped but as soon as its reconnected it starts again, the fault seems to be between the ignition and the connector and is not the relay. It also runs with the sensor wires by the thermostat disconnected. Where to from here?

On my 2004 chevy venture, the cooling fans don't run untill the engine temp gauge is just over 3/4 of what the gauge shows, when they come on, they go till the engine temp is where it is going down the highway, then they turn off, however if I turn on the a.c. they are always on keeping it good engine temp, and if the engine temp gets half way the high speed fans kick on only with the a.c. on, so I don't get what is going on?

@@goyitosalazargs ok so here is what i did, i took the computer out of the truck, took it apart checked out the mother board for water damage and such, i saw nothing , i sprayed the pins on the computer itself with QD contact cleaner, as well as the connectors in the truck to the computer, i haven't had a problem since, after doing that i can use the remote to set my alarm that i couldnt use for moths prior to cleaning the connections, i hope this helps , sry for the delay in responding

In the process of all this was the temperature gauge reading hot when the engine was cold because I've seen it doing that

Was wondering if i can make my fans work more efficiently on my 2008 Impala SS both fans turn on but i feel like they dont spin as fast as it should because as soon as i open the hood the engine is hot and no it does not overheat at all my fans are new and thermostat is new as well i just feel like the engine bay can be a bit cooler what can i do?
@unboxviews
@unboxviews 5 лет назад
You should first know what temp your engine is at. Maybe the temp is perfect and you are exaggerating. Engines are efficient when hot, when they are cold they are designed to burn more fuel to reach operating temperature faster and perform the best. So what could you do is connect an OBD and see if temp is between expected around 100 Celsius or 210 Fahrenheit. Also fans have different speeds when the engine its too hot it will run faster and be pretty loud, but when its just over normal temp they wont go too fast just the necessary

What if you just need Freon is that possible?
@Rythecarguy
@Rythecarguy 2 года назад
Yes but you will need to bring it to a professional for Freon. They don't sell that in stores. Also, if your refrigerant is low then there is a reason. It would need to have a leak.

guys please use simple linguistics. what's wrong in calling the coolant coolant or simply water. it took me hours to find out that anti freez is the water inside the radiator. anyways thanks it really helpful
@Rythecarguy
@Rythecarguy 2 года назад
I'm sorry but I call thinking by their names. There is no water in my radiators. There is only antifreeze. Antifreeze CONTAINS some water but it is not water. Antifreeze = coolant

i had the same problem before on my 1998 corolla, i replaced the coolant temp sensor switch and the cooling fan relay but the fan still runs as soon as the ignition switch is turn on. upon checking i found out that its a wire problem, the wires from the sensor to the relay were fried.

Hey there, we have a 250 hp tactor that does this and I think after watching ur video that it is the temp sensor. You said that a manual fan with a clutch is ran of the belt, but isnt an electric that aswell?
@Rythecarguy
@Rythecarguy 6 лет назад
No, an electric fan will have an electric motor on it that turns the fan. All it needs is an electric connection to run. No belts.
@Gustav4
@Gustav4 6 лет назад
@@Rythecarguy Our fan is told when to speed up and down via electricity instead of the old way with fluids, that we also own tractors that are using. That is what I refer to when I say an electric fan, but maybe a belt driven fan is similar controlled to an electric driven fan, so the problem may be the same as in your video, I just think that the sensor is placed in front of the fan instead and that works because the fan in build to run constantly then speed up when the water is getting hot. When the water gets hot the air coming through the radiator in front of the fan will change in temps and the fan will adjust speed. Not sure tho.

Is a temperature sensor also just called a thermostat?
@steves9173
@steves9173 5 лет назад
no, the thermostat opens and closes when the fluid heats up controlling the temperature. The sensor controls the fans turning on and off also controlling the internal temp of the motor.
