Everybody that has ever experienced a car going off by itself while on the high-way and the fear it triggers will really see what's said in this video of great importance if not life saving. Thanks much ever for the lesson because I really consider it as such
If the coolant temperature sensor malfunctions, it can transmit a false signal to the computer. And the response of the computer may unbalance the timing and fuel calculations. Thanks for sharing this.
If the coolant temperature sensor is faulty it can cause a lot of problems. So this guide is very helpful explaining how to diagnose bad coolant temperature.
Great and informative video, helpful and great troubleshooting method. This video helped me on how to diagnose the coolant temperature sensor without the need for a specialist. Thanks.
As someone who isn't particularly well-versed in automotive mechanics, I often find myself feeling lost when it comes to diagnosing issues with my car. Thank you for sharing your expertise and providing such a helpful resource and information.
I suffer a lot from the problem of the car overheating and this video helped me on how to diagnose the coolant temperature sensor without the need for a specialist
This is really neat. I thought that I would need to pay thousands of $$$ just to make my car work, which has this issue. Glad to have found this. My fiance work on it after watching this video and some others. Now, it works fine.
Incredible information thanks to this video now I know more about the subject, without a doubt very important, thanks I will share it with all my friends..
This beginner car maintenance guide on diagnosing a bad coolant temperature sensor was exactly what I needed. Clear, concise, and easy to follow instructions. Thanks for helping me save money on unnecessary repairs!
I didn't put it in cold water but I did use the chart you have beside you, measured ambient temperature (temperature in the air), to get the proper ohm reading. The ohm reading can go from a few thousands to tens of thousands, depending on the ambient temperature, so you might need to adjust your ohm reader to reflect some high readings if necessary.
If the coolant temperature sensor malfunctions, it could cause your car engine to get overheated. While sometimes a faulty sensor sends a permanent cold signal to the engine, it can also send a permanent hot signal.
Hope those aren't all the possible symptoms, my trucks heater doesn't work but the temperature gauge goes VERY high and both the hoses going to the heater core get very hot (maybe I need to check the temp of the hoses when I first start it. Maybe one just gets hot, because the engine bay is hot?) It doesn't overheat and the main reason it's a problem, is NO HEAT (but I DO have a check engine light, and ignorantly I haven't run the scanner on it yet! (roll-eyes)! The truck still runs fine, but after even a short drive, it starts smelling like hot oil. I've checked almost all the things listed on the many "My heater doesn't work" video's on here, but I'm really wondering if a bad coolant temperature sensor couldn't cause this symptom? I got a new sensor and I'll TRY to come back here to post those results. I also got a new 'blend door" and actuator, for the heating system, but that is a pretty big job to tackle! Oh, I just talked to the guy I bought the truck from and he says, it has ALWAYS behaved like that! If it had always been MY truck, I'd have taken it to a mechanic, if I couldn't figure out the problem, YEARS ago (roll-eyes)! Which MIGHT be what I end up doing this time, sigh. I have 3 other vehicles that run fine, so I haven't felt a lot of pressure to fix this yet, lol. Plus it was winter in Mo and I wasn't willing to deal with the cold outside either, lol. Wish me luck, hehe...
Have a question. I've had my 98 Canry for about a year now. Drives great. Got a CEL today and the P0115 code popped up, which means faulty coolant temp sensor. I'm gonna replace the sensor, but the thing is I just added coolant two days ago as the reservoir was on low. It has to be correlated somehow. Anyways wish me luck!
This video does not tell you how to Diagnose if the sensor is bad, only systems that could be caused by a bad sensor. shows a meter but not how to test it.

When engine cold no eml once hot and you turn the engine on again a eml light would come on. And about a 20% loss of power I'm sure it's a bad coolant temperature sensor.
Diagnosing a faulty coolant temperature sensor is crucial for maintaining your car's performance. This beginner-friendly guide provides essential tips to identify and address issues with this vital component.
