Great, fast, clear and concise video. A couple of extra points: once the pickup mounting tabs are drilled out, it should be noted that the pickup can never be used for a ring mount or pickgaurd spring mount again. Also, the sponge, the serves as a push back against the height adjustment...just another way to explain it. And lastly, that specific sponge material is available to order. Best to get the right one because it has a certain tension.
I was literally thinking about doing this on my project strat, I'm planning on installing a Wilkinson high output Alnico 5 humbuckers on it. it's a good thing that the body has a swimming pool route for the pickups so I'll probably just have to modify the pickguard so I'll have access to adjust the pickup height.
U got any tricks to stop direct mounted humbuckers from being so wobbly when not fully tight to the body?? I feel like my pickups are not as high as I want them it to be because of this. I got em on two blocks of foam already....maybe it needs more foam?
Why use foam for the height adjustment instead of springs? I have sensory issues that makes the texture of foam give me a very uncomfortable feeling on my skin
Hey man, been watching your videos as of late. I have a question for you and maybe you could even make a video about. I bought 2 Ibanez prestige guitars and took them to the guitar shop to install sets of Duncans in them, the guy called me and said the pole pieces are very long and the only way to make them fit would be to either cutting the excess off or routing the pickup cavity to make it deeper. I decided to cut the excess of the pole pieces off but i’ve been reading around the internet and some people say that changes the tone of the pickup significantly. I don’t know if this is true or not but now I am very curious and I can’t find a reliable source that mentions or have tested this. I am only hoping for my guitars to sound good.
I'm not sure why you'd want to do that when the pickups mount just fine with rings, if it comes like that from factory anyways. Pickups come from the factory ready for pickup rings and not for direct mount applications though unless you custom order them
@@EricMorettin i have another problem, in short: i have active mounts, which i want to install over the factory ring-mounts. my friend has got a cnc machine to drill the cavities, but i am a little bit nervous about the whole deal, so maybe seeing a video on how it's done would ease my mind. i know it's kinda hard procedure and you probably won't make a video about it, but still wanted to speak up about my issue. thx for replying, have a nice day🙏
@@mrtuning1194 I think you would be better off to sell those pickups and try and find the standard mounting variant of them. If you try and mount your pickups you would then have the pickup ring screw holes exposed which wouldn't look aesthetically pleasing. In my opinion that's your best bet, or see if you can return them if you bought them new.
@@EricMorettin nah, bought them used, emg 707x set, for about 100 bucks. it's really hard to find something 7-string in my country, and the shipping prices from abroad are crazy. thanks for the advice, i would consider this option👍
