Simple way to disable the safety wheels on Ikea chairs. Just use M6-1.00 x 10 machine screws to release the brake by screwing down the hole on the bottom of the wheels. I just saved you two minutes of watching my video!
Thanks for this video! The locking wheels drove me nuts. The only place I could ever see them making sense would be on a cruise ship, so the chair doesn't roll away when no one is sitting in them. :-)
Thank you so much!! I love my chair except for that safety feature. I was about to replace those wheels. Who even thought of that feature? Did they do a survey on it? They should've just put wheels that have a lock/unlock thing.
I can assure you guys that this method really works. I tried it myself and didn't have to drill anything. Just bought the screws and added them in the hole. It compresses the wheel down and reduces the pressure of the springs. However, the IKEA casters are not ideal for free movements. If you need even more flexibility then buy additional casters that roll free. But at least the screw method works. Thanks, Jason for sharing this amazing idea.
OMG! I realize this video's a couple year's old, but I just got a chair from Ikea yesterday with these stupid wheels. I found another video, but it has a different type. This is the same as mine. You're a HERO!
You’re a genius!!! I watched tons of other tutorials but they didn’t show the model of wheels my chair had. I happened to have around a screw like yours but I think 15mm and gave it a try like you said and wow!! It works!! It’s sticking out longer but short enough that stays below the wheel so I ordered the 10 mm off eBay. Thank you so much for making the video! I was going insane with the chair no moving even when I was sitting down. ✨✨👏👏
How are you putting the wheels back with such ease? One of the end of my wheel came out on its own due to hair being stuck in it. I got the other end out with this method, removed tha hair, put it back, but the other end is ridiculously loose no matter how hard I try to put it back.
Brilliant, there are dozens of idiots videos that do not solve the problem. With your video and 0.5 euros of screws problem solved in 10 minutes. It is better to pass first in the hole a male to threading that facilitates the screw. Thank you
Can you give a tutorial on how to open the wheels? I have the same type of wheels with hairs stuck in it and I can't get it to open matter how much I try.
Another user has a video for a different method of solving the locking problem with these same wheels that involves opening the wheel removing the spring. He shows how to pop open the wheels. Search for Adrian Pantaru.
