This is an excellent video. Very helpful and well done. Thank you very much. I'm hoping to rebuild my Weber that is on my 22R.. it is daunting but after watching your video it looks a bit more straightforward. My truck is running crummy and I smell a lot of gas. My Weber is about 12 years old with close to 40k miles. Is there anything that I could see if it needs a rebuild or would you say it is probably time based on the age and mileage? Thanks again.

dcabinet thanks so much! Could be a couple of things. Does it smell like fuel mainly in the engine bay? You can do it! Just take your time and don’t forget to take a few pictures of it before. I’ll bet based on the years it’s a little gunned up and maybe the float or pump is causing some issues. Let me know how it goes!

wow! I sure wish I had watched your Weber 32 36 carb rebuild BEFORE we took carb apart! Working on a 1973 Volvo 1800es that was converted to Weber carb before we bought it, now we are not sure what size jets were installed, is there a way to determine what size jets go in it? It must be an older carb as choke and throttle body butterflies had straight slot screws! It also has a not connected water choke but we can deal with that later, lol...and advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Keep up the good work, I will Always come here BEFORE attempting any more "fixes" Thanks!

First off all your videos are awesome. You have helped me tremendously. Thank you sir. I have some questions. 1974 260z 2.6 I have weber 32 36 dgv 5A. Is that going to work on my car? This carb diagram shows dual 3.5 Auxiliary venturi. Primary main jet 140 Secondary 130. My secondary is 135. Air jet primary 165. Secondary 160. I have 175. Emulsion tubes f50 and f6 . All 4 of mine are f6. Should I change all of mine to match your numbers or is the whole carb just wrong.

Thanks for your really great videos.After watching them I worked on my carburetor and everything went okay I thought. But one big problem remains and could not be solved by me up to now. It is the water operated choke system.The bimetal spring inside moves due to the hot water passing through the case.The trouble however is that absolutely no warm water finds it's way through these hoses fitted to the choke case.One can wait half an hour but nothing happens.So these flaps keep closed. First I thought there might be air in the cooling system but this seems not to be the case.Of course I set the heater to the "on" position but it doesn't help at all. Do you have an idea what might be wrong ? Heinz in Czech
@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 4 года назад
+Heinz Kozak thanks so much! If no warm water makes it through it sounds like a clog of some sort, maybe at the fitting on the case?Just curious have you thought about switching to an electric choke?
@heinzkozak2146
@heinzkozak2146 4 года назад
Hi there,thanks for the hints. I will check these hoses.In the meantime I noticed that this Ford Sierra engine seems to be fitted with two "water flow circuits".The one circuit with the bigger diameter hoses is responsible for the engine cooling only , the other however with the 1" hoses makes warm/hot water flow directly from the water pump through the heating device ( inside the car ) towards the choke case and from there back into the main circuit.Yesterday I noticed that absolutely no warm water leaves the water pump into this heating system. Strange,very strange. Anyway I still watch your videos because very informative.

@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 4 года назад

@@CarsBikesandCoffee already done it all of the fuel from the float bowl would drain all out to the secondary butterfly...
@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 4 года назад
+Cerij Nayal then maybe the valve that the float is connected to is leaking. Basically fuel is still getting into the bowl somehow, causing the overflow. Another thing to check (this happened to me once) is that the float isn’t jammed somehow.

How do you know if you should clean/rebuild or replace?
@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 4 месяца назад
A few ways to see this The way I look at is if it’s running rough no matter your adjustments, a clean and rebuild is essentially “cheap”. If you don’t feel comfortable rebuilding, replace. If you feel comfortable, but for example butterfly bushings leak air or are worn and can’t replace the bushings, replace. High level approach of course.
@boilerhousegarage
@boilerhousegarage 2 года назад
Why's there an idle jet on a secondary? Surely that wouldn't be used at idle?
@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 2 года назад
Yeah, you are correct it’s a misnomer really. The funny thing, even though they are referred to as a secondary “idle” jet they really should be called a secondary “transition” jet because it begins to assist in the obvious opening of the secondary butterfly/throttle. Thanks for watching!

Let me ask you a question , which is after I finished rebuilding a carburetor like this and installing it back on my 1975 Volkswagen bus I tried to start it which started easily but then started idling up and down by itself while running really rough even though I had what I thought a good bass setting on the adjustments, and then after I tried to shut it off it ran on and then eventually stopped which is when I noticed some white smoke from behind the tin coming from around the heads. And just wondering what you thought? Thanks
@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 4 года назад
+The Music Connect diesling could be a couple things. How did you set your idle speed screw? Butterflies close and don’t stick?
@thelittleredbarn174
@thelittleredbarn174 4 года назад
Thanks the butterfly seem to be moving pretty easily and I set the idle adjustment at 2 turns out from the bottom. And I tried starting it again today after during the adjustments and its not smoking anymore or dieseling and it's starting easily but still idling all over the place and then stalls
@CarsBikesandCoffee
@CarsBikesandCoffee 4 года назад
+The Music Connect another question, is there a return spring pulling back on the throttle after you let go of the cable? Also, if you can look down the barrel of the carb to see if there is gas spilling over, the floats might need adjusting.
@thelittleredbarn174
@thelittleredbarn174 4 года назад
Yeah I thought about that as there is a spring on the side of the carb but Iv noticed in some pictures I've seen online there's another larger spring running to like the manifold which I don't have? And I adjusted the float to 35mm to the top of the float (or 17mm to the bottom) and I've checked to make sure there was no fuel running past the needle valve and there doesn't seem to be. And I made a little video for the people on the samba to look at I'll post here which is now backfiring when I give it a little throttle. Thanks for your help I appreciate it! m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RriCVcFWuAA.html

BEWARE the accelerator pump on Weber 32/36, it vomits gas every time you change the throttle position, completely washing out the mixture. I found this out using a Gunson colortune to watch the combustion mixture. Its not a well-known issue, but easily leads to "it runs too rich" diagnoses. I wish someone made an accelerator pump mod to make the acc pump fuel shot adjustable. But I backed mine off by tweaking the acc pump arm geometry a bit and shaving maybe 1mm off the top of the pump diaphragm to delay and soften the shot, a very non-ideal fix.

@@CarsBikesandCoffee hi, yes it would be...but would be nice to understand the functions of all the parts. My car dies on cold start ...and even when warmed up...(when sat staionary).
