the fitting that is described at 1:34 is giving me a nightmare, no problem getting it off, the problem is when I put the connections on to the new fuel pump they click right on but they leak like a sieve, I can't find any information on what to do about fittings that don't seal...................I'm ready to use seal all and permanently attach them to the pump, "seal all" supposedly works ok with gasoline exposed products not sure about PSI

Hey Richard, I apprenticed twice in my life. First was in the Bell System, second was to become a master electrician... I remember all too well how the "old timers" would come off as drill seargeants. Their favorite was: "you kids today, who the hell is going to take over when us old guys are gone?" I learned something from my DS's, I can spot if baby sitting is required in 30 seconds. I don't know who broke you in to your business but you've made them proud. YOU GOT THIS AND DON'T EVER LET ANY ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT!

I have the one at 1:48 and for the life of me I can't get it off. I squeeze the 2 exposed ends like he's doing around 1:41, then I try to wiggle and pull the softer fuel line off away from the filter but it won't budge, even with WD 40. Sure looks easy to remove the clip like he shows at 1:56. Just my luck....I happen to have a fuel line in the way of scooting a screwdriver under that contraption.

Why do we need to watch how to videos on how to disconnect something as elementary as a hose clamp, why did they do this to us, it should be intuitive and I know about the higher fuel pressure I am not saying use the old hand cutter fitting on these lines, I am ranting about using one that unscrews or something like god intended.

@AirtexFuelPumps 6 лет назад
If it was feasible we would. With the number of clips and the number of suppliers it becomes rather difficult to list all the potential numbers as each supplier uses their own numbering system. Contact your local parts store, they should be able to assist in determining what clip you may need.
@castirondude
@castirondude 6 лет назад
Are they basically all compatible? It looks like there is the basic 3/8" and 5/16" fuel line but as far as I can tell they all basically clip to the same shape of hard lines and take the same plastic line..? I retrofitted an EFI motor in a 1950's car. Not knowing what I needed I ordered a bunch of Dorman piece parts. I found that some of the brass coupling pieces had two barbs and some had three barbs. After a couple of months the two-barb fittings started popping off. I replaced them with the three-barb brass pieces and they are still holding up after 5+ years. So it's kind of curious that some of these pieces seemingly fit together and then come apart.

hey there again☺️ you were so awesome to answer my question, i thought i might take a chance and ask another lol...the reason i asked about the horseshoe retainer is because i recently changed the fuel pump in my vehicle- but after the install, i had something strange happen.. so the question is as follows, and if you can help i’d be so grateful! ------- i recently had my fuel pump start to go out on me (sputtering under load), so i put a new one in... before that my oil and temp gauges read normal- now, the temp and oil gauges go high 2/3 up the gauge- and it was right after putting the new fuel pump that i noticed this. also, nothing appears to be wrong in the engine- no excessive heat and it seems to run fine- why would replacing the fuel pump make my other gauges read weird? also- it’s an in-tank electric fuel pump on a regular-carbureted 1987 ford e350/460. 7.5L 4-barrel any advice/info? oil sender and temp sender are relatively new.. no leaks! ok THANKS!!!😄

Great video. My fuel filter has three of the connectors from 0:29 to 0:45 in the video. I got one off, and the others would not come off. I put it back on and drove to a oil change place, and THREE of them worked on it for over 20 minutes before they got it off. They they worked for another 15 minutes getting it back together because one of the lines blew off when I repressurized the system. It was marvelous to watch such teamwork. I am very glad I gave up and let bigger guys with more leverage (standing in oil change pit instead of lying on back under car on ramps) work on it. I do not think I would have succeeded.
