Hey! Thank you so much for sharing this tip! I have 2 flags to frame. One is a burial flag and the other is an honor flag as I'm calling it, a 3'x5' size. I never thought of doing what you showed. That is totally awesome!
I honestly would’ve never guessed this in a million years! I always thought it had to be taps style folded. My fathers memorial flag box is going to look way better now! Semper Fi!
Thank you. I was doing refolding trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Never thought to unfold it completely and essentially do what we used to do for our ribbon bars. It went from being nicely folded and looking like garbage to looking 100% military precise with it "jammed" in there filling the glass fully and aligned. Thanks again. Oh, one extra thing I did was use small push pins on the back of the cardboard to keep the flag in position on the cardboard. This kept it from shifting while placing it into the frame and/or loading the remaining flag into the back.
THANK YOU!!! This is sooo helpful. My father's funeral flag was already folded but it didn't show many stars when I put in the shadow box. Your method makes this so much easier to fix versus refolding.
This video just prevented a major anxiety attack! I have folded and refolded, noticed the extra triangle in the shadow box, tried to “fold” the Ensign around the triangle… my OCD was killing me and just couldn’t get it to fit. Never even occurred to me to place the Ensign over the shadow box, align, and press the triangle in behind. Fantastic video! Thank you so much Brother!
Love it. I've seen a few flags in boxes not look so good. It seems, the smaller the flag, the more stars you see, but they are harder to fold in the traditional triangle shape.
Funeral flags are 5x9.5. It would be hard to do them in this manner. Plus they are heavy material, cotton, I think if they are folded correctly they fit the shadow box though!
They will fit, for sure. However, the stars will be slanted and probably won't be arranged in a symmetrical pattern compared to the shadow box itself. I have some huge flags that I know I would have to make something custom for them to fit in, so I just fly them on special occasions.
Great video! I have a 9.5 x 5 pre-folded flag from a former U.S. veteran and I added it to a case but the stars are not aligned well. I've tried everything other than trying to fold the flag myself. I will try this technique and see if it works on a larger case. I have a music video about our military, so it must be perfect.
It is because you have a larger flag than the 4x6 flag that is in this video. Either get a larger case, or just space the stars evenly in the box you have.
Fold the flag correctly then build a box for it. These colors don't run sir. Jk. That's much better than what I was going to do, even if we both involved scissors in our projects. Flag week is coming up and this is going to make some vets and their families happy.
Yes, I wish folding the flag the proper way would look nice in a box, but it does not. That is just how folding it turns out. Best wishes to all those that served out there!
I have a flag that flew on a mission over Iraq and was told not to put it in a triangle box like that since the pilots didn't die. Not sure if that is true so I have never put it in a display frame since wasn't sure on rules. Any ideas?
There is certainly NO RULE that says a flag in a box must represent the death of a soldier. Whomever told you this, ask them what their reference is on flag code to back up their claim. Sounds like a "uniform cop" soldier to me, or a Captain that has been thinking. Be proud of it, and display it how you like. It's much better in the box than in a drawer.
I was able to get 3 ww11 flags.i left flags the sane as I received .my son bought me 3 display cases.i put all 3 together.i glued the cases ...now to hang I have my dad n his mom in the b I ttom.
@@wendydeprey9314 display the flag how best you see fit. As for my retirement flag, I like the symmetrical stars that are facing straight up, and not angled off to the left or right (depending on the orientation of how the flag is placed in the box). That is my preference. This is not a video on how to properly fold a flag, but a video on how to display a flag in a display case that looks aesthetically pleasing. I thank your dad for his military service.
@@HelicoolsHelipad See I'm a patriot that serve this country not to mention I have ton of flag in cases because I have safe a few from wind damage they are perfect condition because people just leave them to get tattered
@@HelicoolsHelipad And they are all folded properly where the Star are showing instead of the red white white appear because I have several golden fringe folded as well
