I am a professional Mermaid with 12 years of experience who specializes in tailmaking and tail safety, PLEASE DONT EVER make your own monofin! It’s EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! monofins are sports/swim equipment and you have to have a properly made one! I recommend finis brand fins.
I actually did ballet for seven years, and that doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea! As long as you aren’t using ones that you actually dance in and they’re not falling apart (completely), I’d say go for it. Although, it might feel weird underwater, and you might need extra straps to actually keep your feet in the slippers.
Austin Patterson you need to buy a properly made monofin. It’s sports equipment not a toy and you could become permanently injured or even die from swimming in a homemade fin
I mean,great diy,but on the other hand,all that ducktape probs costed more than a monofin, that you can get on ebay or amazon for 14 bucks, no offense tho 😊
I did this DIY with only one roll of duct tape and a re-used lid for a total of $5, and it was super cool because I got to customize it and I love using it because of how well it works.

This is so dangerous, don't ever try to make your own monofin, save the money and get one that is actually safe and designed for athletic use. A lot of science goes into the design of a proper monofin, doing this is not only dangerous, but also runs the risk of giving the rest of the mermaid community a bad name if there were to be any accidents. Don't use this tutorial!
Please don't. This is extremely unsafe :s You can get away with a very cheap mermaid tail, but please please, get a quality monofin! For your own safety and the safety of your loved ones.
