How to DIY The PERFECT Shredded Denim Collar! - by Orly Shani

Grab your jacket and scissors... and let's do this thang!
This is one of the easiest DIY's with the most epic impact.
It all comes down to cutting the collar off at THE EXACT right spot, which I'll obviously show you... duh.
The more you wash this jacket the better it gets, so throw it in with every load of laundry you do for the next month and watch the magic happen.
MATERIALS******************************
100% Cotton Jacket The closer you can get to 100% cotton the more it will fray. (I recommend hitting the thrift store for this one!)
-Fabric Scissors

Super happy that I found you - I found a sleeveless denim jacket at the thrift store but the collar was super sad - so I quickly searched your videos and was thrilled to find this oldie :) YAY. I don't love the over frayed look - so I just cut it off and figure as I wash it - it will get more frayed :) Thanks!

that truly was a very little effort diy. i don't mind the frayed look for myself, but would trim the long threads as they look unkempt to me=oh, well, to each his own, eh? thanks for sharing your apparently endless ideas that we all love.

Orly, the jacket won't shrink in the dryer even though it's 100% cotton? Should it just be on the air setting - no heat? Thanks!

If it was brand new it might shrink on the first wash, but since it is thrifted it has likely been washed & dried many times already and so it already shrank as far as it's going shrink.

Gail Leone so 100% cotton denim is a lttle different. It shrinks every time it goes in the washes and loosens back up with wear. Denim doesn’t ever shrink permanently, the weave tightens temporarily and then goes right back to normal!

Was your jacket 100% cotton? I have a very similar Gap denim jacket that is 98% cotton 2% spandex. Would that work or should I find another one??

This look is horrible !. Can’t wait for this look to go away .. Spandex jeans are horrible .. And skinny jeans are horrible .. Girls , go back to boot cut jeans !. Feeling funky ? Wear bell bottom jeans !. Why in God’s name would you take a nice denim jacket and trash it ! When did looking poor become fashionable ?. What’s next a beautiful $400 leather jacket with holes cut in it ?. If your shopping for vintage Levi’s and your cutting up those valuable jeans you just erased all the collector value !.

Hahah no you’re good! I find so many great things at thrift stores so that’s why I’m free to cut and chop. I have multiple, plain jean jackets so when i find a good one for $5 at a thrift store, i use it for a project :)
