||TODAYS VIDEO||
This is a fun alternative to learning a new accent and it is about learning accent work with a twist! We break down a general Haitian Accent.
Haitian Accents vary in region, many factors play into an accent. This video is based on a generalized Haitian Accent. Your family may say and have different variations for different accents. Like the Northern, Southern, & Midwest accents in the United States for example. This video was created to expand the awareness that black accents, experiences and cultures are not monolithic. This Haitian accent is a general Haitian Accent. We welcome positive inputs on the different variations that make up an island so full and rich with history that literally changed the world!
|| VIDEO TIP ||: PLACEMENT in a Haitian Accent. Always remember that placement in the Haitian Accent is: Rounded and Forward!
Think of accent work, particular for BLACK ACCENTS think of the colonizers. Haiti had the French so the placement is not based in British RP which is wide. ALWAYS THINK FORWARD.

I wondered about this. Unique accent! Sounds a little french in parts. Definitely different to west african. I was very surprised to here that Haitians get bad press. Haiti just sounds like paradise to me. And the island traditions, the surfing-so cool. And so close to America for a stop over. I know you get those horrible storms though, like the one that ripped through all the islands before landing in America east coast. 3

Funny you make this video, yeah the Haitian accent is VERY different from the anglophone West African accent, but the French-speaking African accents sound very similar...also the black Montréal accent tends to sound Haitian... All of this of course I'm referring to, when their speaking English....

Hey All! This is a place to learn! It’s also a space for those that seek to learn the BASIC TOOLS OF A HAITIAN ACCENT. Let’s do our best to KEEP IT A POSITIVE SPACE TO LEARN. I put up these Videos UP - because after 20 years in the biz, most ACTORS - CASTING DIRECTORS- PRODUCERS- WRITERS- THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY ETC are unaware of the HAITIAN SOUND AND CULTURE. I’m HAITIAN and out of respect for a country and culture that is so steeped w beauty, & HISTORY deserves much more than the light society as rewritten it to be. ACTORS still to this day are getting cast doing JAMAICAN and AFRICAN accents. These actors you’ve seen are talented - but I’ve realized most ppl have very singular and monolithic exposure to the Accent. I know because I’m coaching them. I hear the feedback they get before I work w them. GETTING PRAISED for an “authentic” accent that is JAMAICAN OR A MIXTURE OF BOTH AFRICAN /JAMAICAN, or just plain made up! I come from a great country and I’m a proud HAITIAN woman that wants nothing more than to have PROPER REPRESENTATION for the ppl and the community. REPRESENTATION FOR THE SAKE OF REPRESENTATION IS NOT REPRESENTATION. Researching the country and culture IS. That was my goal and is my goal w sharing these videos. There are many tools to get to the Haitian Accent. These are my tools that I’ve built over the past four years. This is not the ultimate way but it is a way to share the Diverse Community of the Haitian ppl and of the Black community. Thanks again 🇭🇹

My Haitian accent is more subtle, it sounds more African then French if it makes sense. So if I wanted to say “come do it to me” in my Haitian accent I would say “cummen do et tu me” This is stupid would be “dis iz stupet” so I would sound more African then French, plus I’m from New York so it sound different with my dialect. One two three would be one tu tree 😂

BallisticRemedy Haitian Accents vary depending on region, class, personalities etc... this video is for a VERY general HAITIAN accent, specifically to hear the placement. Which I’ve discovered from my coaching- is the most difficult part for my clients to hear and find. However, once you find the placement the rest is easier to find! Hope u enjoyed the video! Currently learning Haitian Creole just to have another language many cannot understand if I want to speak to my kids in public or to expand knowledge besides English & Spanish. Is there a major difference with French Creole and Haitian Creole dialects? When I say French Creole I'm referring to the dialect people in Louisiana and Southern Mississippi maybe use? It's just a question out of curiousity because I can't find books on it.

Greetings! This is really helpful, and actually troubling that there aren't many Haitian dialect instructional/"how-to" videos; albeit more now than there were when you began. Thank you for this (or, "for _dis")._ 😉🤓🙏🏽 I have a translation question, please. I know "kou" means several things, like class/course, neck, beat/hit. What does it mean if it is put after a name? {i.e.: Stored in a phone contact as Pierre Kou, Paul Kou, Esther Kou, Madeline Kou}

@trill5pill831
@trill5pill831 3 года назад
We don't speak lazy, they made us believe ebonics is ghetto slang but it is our language. Black Klansman opened my eyes on how the white americans tried to understand black americans way of english and it was btoken with some of the original language in it. They just made us believe the way we spoke was "lazy" as you say when really we already started our own language.

Can't say Haitian accent isn't similar to West African. I think you mean anglophone West Africa (which even then depending on if you're speaking Cameroon/Ghana-they have heavy influence from surrounding Francophone West Africa and contributed some of the heaviest gene pool to the Greater Antilles). But you guys sound very similar to Togolese, Ivorian, Congolese*, Malians*, Senegalese*, Chadians-who also contributed to the overall gene pool. All have a similar spoken French and their own creole, I'd think Leoneans and Guineans sound the closest to you with the Lingala speaking Congolese, Wolof speaking Senegalese, and Bambarans in Mali. Cameroons sound very similar too because of Nigerian influence to North and French occupation (similar to all Francophone Africa) and Congolese neighbours. Also remember all our ancestors in the Caribbean originally came from West Africa and learned French/English/Spanish etc. in our former homeland and developed it in our current one today to be our creole/patois we have in modern times. You can't subtract the West African influence in the equation, some of the last indentured servants came to the islands only about a century ago.

What about the word very? Would the V in the word very be replaced with a B--berry instead of very? Would you say berry instead of very?
5 лет назад
Replacing the 'b' for the v sound is typically found in a Spanish accent? You would just round your mouth forward, pronounce the 'v'. It sounds more French-based. Just round and think forward.

5 лет назад
Louis Soler I have extended video on the accent and several others. Firstly, it’s calculated to speak as much as I do because unfortunately in our society and in the entertainment industry the accent, henceforth the culture is not given the proper authenticity it deserves. This educated Haitian black woman that is a professional educator- comes from the school of thought of - you must crawl before you walk before you - run. If my method doesn’t work for you, my friend, then RU-vid as countless others to LEARN from. The Haitian community and quite to often the BALCK experiences are lumped into on singular voice and culture. There’s a reason for everything I do, my friend, and if you just want to skip thru a culture to get results my methods are not for you. I speak about the culture w a smile for reason. Enjoy your search- I’m sure there is a video out there aligned w your skipping thru people’s culture for quick “stereotypical” results of a region.

Louis, it is seems obvious that you are not honing into the details, I love this video and her method because you can not speak in "The Haitian Accent" or any other accent without the science are how words are formed in the particular accent your interested in learning, not well at least, shes an educator, she provides structure to give a firm foundation to build upon.
