All right, guys. Now I'm going to go through kimura, which is a really great way to control your partner, as well as set up a great submission. Now there are many variations of the kimura. We're going to start with this first one, which is the traditional side control kimura. I have my opponent in side control, nice, powerful side control. Before we did the Americana when his hand came here. Now his hand is here.
We're going to be going for a kimura. All right. There are a few ways to set it up. The first way is I like to bring this hand over underneath his arm. I use my head to pinch his arm down. This hand goes here and block his hip. And I finish the lock. Okay. Now I'm going to go over the details. Side control, arm over, arm over, pinch. And here's where we start. Now my arm is here blocking his hips. My weight is on his chest. My head is pinching his arm down. Some people like to put their arm down on the floor.
I do not like to do that. It's not wrong, but I'm going to show you why I don't do it. Grab here. Now I put my elbow on the floor. I shift forward, step over his head, and again I'm going to do that motorcycle movement that we did in the Americana. Motorcycle and brush the floor. It's very important to keep the arm tight. Okay. In every kimura, I want the arm compressed and tight to my body. All right. I don't want here, and I don't want straight. This is not arm kimura. This is a straight arm lock. It's bent and tight to my body. And I finish. Okay. One more time. Okay.
From side control, I go to my start position here, and I pinch the arm. I gab the wrist. I establish the grip here. Elbow down, right here against his body. Drive forward. Step over his head, and shift back. Motorcycle, tight, finish. Not this. Not this. Okay Nice position. One more time, guys. One. Pinch. Get the grip. Elbow on the floor. The motorcycle. Finish. That's our traditional kimura. Remember with all the kimuras, stay tight with the arm to the body.

When I did it like this, we felt there was too much space created when I went to step over my partners head. Instead, we maintained a solid chest to chest pressure throughout the entire move, and walked the leg up to his head instead. Worked better for us.

Does the americana not work on some people because my training partner did it and my elbow just bent opposite ways and i couldnt feel the strain does it just not work on flexible people.
@DrownInLysergic
@DrownInLysergic 3 года назад
Certain locks might be more or less effective depending on who you're fighting. Some people are double jointed or just bend in weird ways, so it's best to know as many as possible, especially different locks that can be used from the same position. The average street person who doesn't stretch or work out in any way will probably tap to any submission though.

@ryguyiskindofaflyguy

this guy didn't do it wrong but here are a few tips why this isn't the best way.... he abducts the shoulder to around 90 deg which is ideal but he puts the guys humerus (upper arm) and radius/ulna (lower arm) at 90 degrees (not ideal). here's why...your biceps/brachialis are responsible for elbow flexion and normal range of movement is 150 deg. so by keeping it at a 90 degree angle you are giving the person enough rom (range of motion) to activate the biceps which if he's a strong guy he can use that to grab his shirt or gi. It also allows the person to activate his triceps which controls elbow extension and normal range of motion is 0 degrees. Alot of guys will try to rotate the wrist and extend the elbow to get out. So I think the best way of getting the kimura, is to get that shoulder to around 90 deg of abduction (he did this), get the humerus at 90 deg (he did this) but pull in the lower arm so that the persons thumb is going towards the armpit (how catch wrestling is taught). By maximizing that elbow flexion, it makes the biceps actively insufficient meaning the muscle is now too shortened to be activated, there is no more room for it to go. This also causes the triceps to be passively insufficient, which means that the triceps are now being stretched to the max so it is way harder for the guy to extend the arm. because your arms are going to be closer to you, you will have more leverage and power, your opponents biceps and triceps are now taken out of the picture, if the guy grabs his close you can always snake your arms around his arm to make a rear naked choke grip then rotate around the head for the finish. The only drawback to this is once the arm is behind the back, its harder to finish when the shoulder is extended/internally rotated (sakuraba/royler) so once it's behind the back, start to extend the arm to roughly 90 degrees for the tap.....i just took an adderall and i'm a physical therapy student so bare with me :)

hey man i'm a martial arts teacher who is self taught when it comes to specific anatomy. I believe the future of martial arts instruction is going to be people breaking down things in the way that you admirably attempted right there. let me ask you something? what causes the muscle to be "insufficient" when it's fully contracted. why exactly can't it be activated?

You don't prevent it, go for a different submission called an inverted arm bar, you rotate his arm until the inside of his elbow faces upwards, put your hands one on his wrist and one on his lower tricep, then to finish you push his wrist down and rotate your other hand so his whole arm bends backwards, hope it helped
