Thank you! It is amazing when you dissect wrestling techniques, how many steps there are just to a simple single leg and staying in good position. All critical details.
The Merge this is the main reason guys get caught in the guillotine off the takedown. Bad technique, bad positioning. This video is great because it shows a proper setup as well as positioning and technique.
@@bigdog9270 100%! Positioning and the small details are everything. Crazy how much goes into just a single leg - I can spend a month alone going over single leg entires, setups, maintenance, finishes, etc. Glad you like it!
@@themerge.online yup. I wish more people just learned some proper wrestling fundamentals instead of either abandoning shooting takedowns completely or coming up a million and one complicated counters to the issues. Great video
That’s superb technique, brother. I commend you. Your transfer of positions is snappy and precise. Can tell if you were going full speed it would be a beautifully quick takedown.
To pull the leg up, you should drive first, then pull back, grab the ankle, then raise it. Always drive first when you can, it gives you control. -former D1
The universe is trying to tell you something when you are being lazy scrolling down RU-vid shorts and not going to BJJ practice..... Just to see your professor ❤️ (professor Omar) in one of the shorts.
Great breakdown. Although you don't need to step back. Your pressure is already going forward. A step forward with the lead leg keeps the pressure and achieves the same objective. You can also do the same thing with elbow control. You don't need inside control.
When you first got him to move that right foot forward you could’ve simply done a deashi harai foot sweep and not had to have gone to the ground at all but it was good technique.
I met the bald guy at glory martial arts staten island, his brother is really good at muay thai,,, aleo the gym has an amazing bathroom & toilet with an electric bidet
@@DJ-1Q84 Both are great options. I always prefer to control the head and grab around the neck like a collar tie. If I can’t reach (maybe they are really tall) then I reach inside the knee.
How would you defend agsinst this? Sorry if this sounds stupid, i never did any purr wrestlinf before and my bjj gym focuses mostly on just ground stuff
Not a dumb question. There are many defenses to this but to be short. Push the head down which gets it out of good position and sprawl or if you are more to the side like hip to hip you can whizzer. You will probably have to look some of this up. We have a few videos on single leg defenses here feel free to search through our RU-vid channel.
Love it. I keep getting to a good position in mma sparring ti take the single leg, but I'm somehow not able to get it. I see why now, it's because my gead is looking away which break my own posture. If I look straight and sig into the ribs with my forehead, I'm safe from strikes and can push with it. Is shooting at the rear leg recommended or usually go for the front leg?
Thank you so much. Subscribed. I needed this. I just got back from Ju jitsu and we have wrestling too. I coudn't finish the single leg tonight. But I think I need to pull the back of the head and trip.
Yes, this is a breakdown for non striking martial arts - jiu jitsu, wrestling, submission grappling etc. end of the day, these details and concepts are still a great foundation for a single leg even in MMA but adjustments would need to be made since your opponent is looking to punch your face off 😂😅
You have to practice this technique 456,789,765,123,543 before its effective and be careful with the Elbows to your face or knee when going down to grab leg except for that Good luck 🤞
It did not work for Gamrot (against Tsarukyan) in MMA (thanks to Tsarukyan's level.) Different results if applied in BJJ of course. Thank you for this!
The only problem with leg attacks in bjj for me is I’m always getting subbed it just puts me in a bad position when I shoot for the legs maybe I need more experience but I find it easier to just pull guard
Hey Mike, what do you think about going down to some type of leg lock off that last finish? Was thinking saddle-inside heel hook but would love your thoughts.
You could transfer to a leg lock for sure. Once it’s up in the armpit it could be hard for some flexibility wise to throw a leg over. One grip I’ve done before when I have it up in the armpit like that is changing it to s heel hook type grip. The person definitely doesn’t like it and thinks twice about trying to kick out. Now one we hit the mat I have their leg still up but I have to watch Omiplatas and them raising their hips up. If their leg stays up long enough you can deff enter a leg lock. I’ve found leg locks easy to enter when the leg is still in the first phase of the (chest on top of quad, both hands around it, etc)
@@themerge.online thanks Mike. Was thinking they would be worried about losing the takedown battle that leg lock opportunity would open up. Also I used to train at mrkulics back in the day. I came back to the sport five years ago. Glad to see you having success!
I be getting pushed by these kids and they tryna jump me. If I get into a one on one situation, this will be helpful since all they do is push me. Thank you bro, you the goat!
@@dade4537 you playin with mannequins in the basement again jr.? And how is it better then? Explain. It’s more movement, more opportunity for your opponent to react/counter. If his opponent stepped through when he went to do the transition he’s getting plowed with a heel to the chest or chin. Instead of just shooting the single.
@@KyleLangeMMA you can't read or on heavy drugs. I said the move in the vid is too complicated and junk. I would do ko-soto and my opponent would be on the ground instantly. Reread and reread again.
@@dade4537 or you could learn how to correctly word what your attempting to explain. Which your still yet to do. Would they really be on the ground instantly? Or is that just a fantasy of yours? I was asking a genuine question wanting a response as to why the person who made the video thought that was better in his opinion. Not from some random goof
@@KyleLangeMMA ko-soto is more effective to this overcomplicated junk technique. You straight up have a comprehension problem if you don't understand that. I'm a 2nd degree brown in Okinawan. See you on the street, toots.
That's cool but the classic drag while hunched over the knee is safer and more aggressive. A good Thai fighter will not only get out of that hold/avoid the trip, but he will light you up too so the classic single leg is better.
This is for Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Grappling etc (no strikes, so I don’t have to worry about getting hit). Single legs (and other takedowns) definitely change when you could get hit in the face. Grappling wise - this single leg works great.
Sporty move not meant for self defense No need to post the knee to the ground just knee pull or high crotch no need to plant knee You’re an adult The sports are for kids
