Good vid Dan. Amazes me the amount of ‘tutorials’ that are online that don’t stress the importance of having the right stroke on tdc. If being really picky, the arrow on the flywheel should point to the ignition module retaining screw, but being straight up ain’t far off👍

It was an awesome tutorial. I usually perform this once a year on my Stihl FS90R. My only issue with your video was that it was pretty far away. I know myself what you were doing, but many other people that maybe new to this may not be able to see it very well. Great video though Dan. Keep up the great work.

Great video dan. I’ve been an echo guy because the whole stihl 4 mix thing seemed like a big mystery with the valve lash adjustment deal but now I wouldn’t hesitate at all to buy a stihl 4 mix machine.you thoroughly explained it and demonstrated how easy it is. I’m a big fan of the ethanol free gasoline also.i started running it in all of my equipment this year.it makes my lawn tractor,handheld string trimmer and dr trimmer run completely different.easier starting,smoother running and everything holds rpm’s better in the heavy stuff.they even sound different when they run.amazing what a difference changing fuel makes. Keep those videos coming

In 1972-1976 when I was 12-16 years old one of the lawns I mowed in my neighborhood was an elderly woman who had a smaller snowblower in her garage that her son in law ran for her that was 4 stroke.it had to have sae30 weight oil mixed with the gas instead of oil in the crank case so the 4 mix thing was being developed back then,although it was far and few between until recent years when stihl started marketing it. I think 4 stroke is good.lower rpm and more torque instead of mostly horsepower like 2 stroke is

Great tutorial! I had the shop do the valves 2 years ago at about year 5 of ownership. Next time I will do this myself. On the fuel filter what I find helps me it to get small forceps that I use for fishing to grab onto the fuel line. It is still awkward at best. But easier than anything else. Needle nose pliers are too big. I use a grease gun on the grease port just because I have the grease at hand. I only have to do that every few years.

Great Audio, I could understand everything you talked about. Now as for the VEDIO for me your camera should have been a lot closer to what you was working on, (I'm left handed blond and blue eyed) so that means I can learn better if I can hear and see exactly what your talking about. The third item for me is I must be there and have my hands on it. ( I know I can't do that). But it sure would help to have the camera closer. You might consider this. Thanks Preston

I used to do valve lash and lapping along with a crap of other things on my V-8. I used to race stock cars in the 90’s. Never did them on small motors but it is cool to do and fun to demonstrate and so much easier!!

Valve gap? Fuel mix ratio? Some chemicals will destroy plastics or dull the finish. Use soap and water only for plastics. I have opened new boxes of spark plugs with gap completely closed shut due to rough handling. Gap also affects timing. Spark arrestors are there for a reason. Always check exhaust outlet, muffler for clogging. Some people use wrong oil or too much of it in premix.

Three things. 1- wear gloves when handling gasoline. It contains benzine. 2- Don't touch the white insulator on the spark plug. Contaminates can be conductive and cause the high voltage to leak to ground. 3- ALWAYS check your spark plug gap. Why would you check your valve clearance and not check your spark gap? Otherwise great video. Thumbs up.

Are you suppose to lube the shaft of the kombi system where it has the coupler and the plastic sleeve. I was told to do so in order for it not to break the plastic sleeve! It helps against friction and is a bear to replace the plastic sleeve as you have to loosen or break loose the nut that holds that plastic sleeve. My used 91R was bone dry so I did this

If I remember right, I believe I did put a little bit of grease on the shaft so it would disconnect easier when I would change the lower unit from Edger to Weedeater.

My 110 is about 15 years old and was running rough I was going to do a tune-up like you were doing but for what you just spent on a tune-up I just bought everything you've got there and a brand new carburetor. Telling people to buy parts individually is a big disservice. If they do any kind of shopping or research there's a reason kits are kits the sum is always less than the parts

Hey Dan. I used to fix everything. I was a "Jack Of All Trades". Now I'm a disabled veteran, and I have come to rely to much on warranties. Your tutorial is very impressive. I have a Stihl FS 90. I bought it 2 years ago, last month. I've never done anything to it. I just found out 2 days ago, that I had to put grease in the head. In addition to being a Veteran, I am also a Auto Mechanic by trade. So, I am gonna start getting back into doing things for myself, and I'm a little rusty. Should those valves be adjusted with the engine warmed up? What's your opinion on using genuine Stihl products vs. using the cheap tune up kits you can get on Ebay?

Great video Dan! My local Stihl dealer insists that the “pre mixed fuel in a can” that they sell is far superior than mixing gas and oil yourself! They actually offer an extended warranty if you purchase it from them. What is your opinion??

I know you were asking Dan this question, but since you didn't get a reply I'll answer your question... I just adjusted the valves on my Stihl BR700 backpack blower, my FS91R weedeater, and KM90R Kombi. All of these are the same procedure. Except I believe I took the spark plug out before trying to find top dead center on the blower. It made it easier to turn the engine over than doing so with the spark plug in. I'm almost sure all of the 4-mix Stihl motors are the same to adjust the valves. But check your engine specs to be sure before you start wrenching on them...

I sent one to the shop last year (FS 100 RX under warranty, ran like poop) and they adjusted the valves and cleaned the carb. This is the first time I did it myself tho and I will do it every late fall/winter.

John Leija Bot all manufactures use them but the screen is inside the exhaust hole. It is very small and may have a small Phillips head screw holding it in

Hey Dan I need your advice on something.. Yesterday I went down to my stihl dealer to purchase a new trimmer. I needed a new one to replace my 110 that was stolen. My intentions were to look at the 91 and the 94. As i looked further down the aisle I noticed that the Fs111Rx was a lot cheap. 319.99 actually. So with the 91 and the 94 being 20 to $30 more I decided jump on the 111. So I figured I got a good deal on a machine that has more power and a bigger tank. However I never known anyone to run one of these before. I've been looking on RU-vid have not been able to find any reviews on it but very few. So now I'm kind of skeptical about using it or returning it for the 91 or 94. Eventually I'm going have to buy an extra one anyways because I need to run 2 trimmers on my trailer. I guess my question to you is what is your opinion on this matter and what have you would have done? Thx

The FS 94 is a straight 2 stroke, not a 4-mix. It's a little lighter than the 91, and is actually a little easier to feather around places like privacy fences and such.
